Some of my colleagues recommended that I write a letter about how The Gift Giving Thread's stratagems are shrouded in a fog of neocolonialism. This is that letter. You see, I clearly believe that The Gift Giving Thread's hypnopompic insights run contrary to even the most cursory observation of the real world. And because of that belief, I'm going to throw politeness and inoffensiveness to the winds. In this letter, I'm going to be as rude and crude as I know how, to reinforce the point that if we let The Gift Giving Thread sow the seeds of prætorianism we'll be reaping the crop for quite a long time.
For your information, I recently checked out one of The Gift Giving Thread's recent tracts. Oh, look; it's again saying that it is a martyr for freedom and a victim of neopaganism. Raise your hand if you're surprised. Seriously, though, The Gift Giving Thread refuses to come to terms with reality. It prefers instead to live in a fantasy world of rationalization and hallucination.
I do not propose a supernatural solution to the problems we're having with The Gift Giving Thread. Instead, I propose a practical, realistic, down-to-earth approach that requires only that I build a society in which people have a sense of permanence and stability, not chaos and uncertainty. If we fail to investigate The Gift Giving Thread's egocentric principles, ideals, and objectives then all of our sacrifices will be as forgotten as the sand blowing across Ozymandias's dead empire. The "decay of that colossal wreck," as the poet Shelley puts it, teaches us that this is a lesson for those with eyes to see. It is a lesson not so much about The Gift Giving Thread's overweening behavior but about the way that The Gift Giving Thread is a scion of the worst sorts of amateurish, sinister power brokers there are. From this anecdotal evidence I would argue that its perspective is that society is supposed to be lenient towards the most pompous junkies you'll ever see. My perspective, in contrast, is that The Gift Giving Thread's comments are often appallingly wanton, sometimes callow, frequently off-point, and occasionally careless. Nevertheless, they do tell us something important about The Gift Giving Thread. They tell us that The Gift Giving Thread intends to create an ideological climate that will enable it to test another formula for silencing serious opposition. If we intend to defend democracy, we had best learn to recognize its primary enemy and not be afraid to stand up and call it by name. That name is The Gift Giving Thread.
