Besides, while Naval and Air forces do play a major part, Infantry and/or Ground forces (including armor etc) are still the main fighting force and the one that makes the most difference. You can't control a piece of land until you have soldiers dug in.

Ahem, 1 for 1 is a war of attrition. Besides, the ratio wasn't usually 1:1, many japs died in their "suprise" attacks before they could reach the enemy in some cases. Getting your ass captured ties up their resources and men, effectivly taking them from the frontline and saving your life to be potentially put back on the front. Obviously any decent soldier would prefer to fight than getting captured, but your idea of killing yourself as being more effective is plain wrong.
I also lol'd when I read "better tactics". People for some reason seem to think "Banzai" rushes were unique to japan. Newsflash: Banzai rushes are just massed Bayonet rushes. The same thing that has been taught to almost every fucking army in the world. Not like the Japs invented it.
I always prefer movies, games and books where the protagonist takes a good beating once in a while and doesn't just roam around being invincible.
ARMA 2 is a good example. Where a randomly placed bullet coming from a machinegunners weapon could kill you instantly.

Lol yet it's amazing how 90% of the people making missions for ArmA/ArmA 2 will fail to realize that 4 soldiers do NOT stand a chance against an enemy population that of a small island nation.

The Japanese horrors of World War II have been masked, plus there's only been a few WW2 movies from the Chinese side. Go see Rape of Nanking, it demonstrates this somewhat.
