Nope, thats not him.
I'm still waiting for Kim Jong Il to come in this thread and make some witty post about political dissidents :v:
I learnt something about one of my friend's the other, he's a pretty sciencey kinda guy, doesn't beleive in god or whatever.
But the other day I learnt that he believes in either an afterlife or reincarnation. I've known him for about 7 years, changed the whole way I looked at him.
Because they have a powerful military.
It wouldn't surprise me if their tanks are just papier mache models over some 70's Volkswagen.
TL;DR should be "I savagely took the piss out of my Korean "friend" and now I feel bad because he gave me a good reason why he wasn't laughing at my tremendously unfunny and distasteful attempts at humour".
OP you're a douche for making North Korea jokes in the first place, especially in front of a Korean, it doesn't matter if he was (or so you thought) South Korean.
You think North and South Koreans are completely different people? That they're two completely different nationalities?
Politics aside, they're still one nation and one people. You think just because the country is split, you can poke fun of one side in front of someone who's from the other? Stop and think, even if he was actually a South Korean, maybe he:
-Had relatives in the North
-Lost relatives in the war
-Or maybe he's just someone who wants his country to be unified, doesn't care about politics, he just wants to see his nation together again.
He could have been sensitive due to any of these reasons and there you were thinking just because he's from the South it's a-ok to poke fun at Northerners. Those are the same reasons you shouldn't even poke fun at South Korea in front of a North Korean.
I always makes North Korea related jokes in school. Everyone would laugh or smile except him. I've always wondered why but, I never got the chance to actually ask him about it.
So you got the message that he didn't find jokes about his country funny but you kept making them anyway?
You can't actually use the "I didn't know..." excuse this time, as I pointed out, it's insensitive and stupid to make Korea jokes in front of any Korean in the first place.
It's quite amazing to see how someone who was suffering in North America is able to escape to a well established and fully industrialized country such as America. The amount of suffering and work a family has to go through is well respected for their endurance.
Not your fault, OP. You couldn't have told just by looking at him about his "life story".
Either way, you shouldn't be making North-Korean jokes with a South Korean. They've taken enough shit from NK as is.

Ugh, clocks please.
Make starcraft jokes instead.
Nuclear weapons are deadly, but North Korea doesn't have the power to last in a protracted war.
I agree with you, but nuclear weapons alone are powerful enough to cripple small countries severely. To the US? Yeah, it'd do a lot of damage not only to the population but economically as well.
With North Korean's current economy and food distribution, I agree with you. They wouldn't last far too long once they've used their last resorts.
Most of my friends don't know me on a family level, in other words they don't know about my parents. Ever since grade school, I always end up visiting their houses for parties, projects, hang out, etc.
As we move on through Jr. High and High School, every now and then, they would end up asking about me and my parents.
Me: "Oh, I can't get there, Mom needs the car for work."
Friend: "Can your dad drop you off?"
Me: "My mom's single."
Friend: *Epiphany moment* "Oh..."
It's nice to know that my friends assumed that their friends have perfect families like themselves.
explain to me how he could've known

well excuse him for not reading his mind like you would
Making fun of people like that, constantly, is not cool. It goes from being funny to being rude.
Wait wait wait, people have to ESCAPE from NK? That's preposterous my nigga!
-snip-
I live near Atlanta, it is more dangerous here than North Korea.
