My fear of backmasked(backwards) songs that have messages- How do I get over it?
Have you heard Sweet Honey Pie backwards? Lennon sounds like "I wish I was not a Beatle" as clear as day
I'm not talking about that song, I'm talking about Stairway to Heaven
you let the power of suggestion trick you into hearing something that wasn't there
I've always wondered about this, how the hell do you put in lyrics that can only be heard when you play it backwards?

Metallica - Am I Evil
Now that is some awesome shit when played backwards. I even tried it in Audacity and it works flawlessly
I fucking LOVE Little Nicky.
Most backmasking isn't cryptic or horrifying, plus it's pretty obvious when it shows up.
I know an Iron Maiden song, Still Life, that starts with a backmasked imitation of Idi Amin. There's also a Frank Zappa song that has a verse he was required to censor by the record company backmasked.

Iron Maiden are epic at backmasking. Just listen to Powerslave backwards.

I honestly teared up laughing.
I'm listening to a backwards song right as I entered this thread.
I won't fucking lie, I'm listening to the day that never comes backwards, no messages though.
I have an idea.
Record all the backmasked songs while they are playing backwards. Put them on your ipod, place the song/songs on repeat, and then fall asleep. Didn't this happen to somebody else on here?
satan eats cheez whiz
90 Percent of all songs are backmasked.
Well did you know that the zombie screams in Half-Life 2 were actually just human yells for help played backwards?

Late.

Really??
Realize that all of those words you think you hear, arn't really there. Your mind just makes you think they are. Unless you're listening to that one pink floyd song, ya know, the one with the contest hint in the middle of it? Yeah.
Go outside more, that might help.

There's two more. That's the most prominent one, though.

I prefer songs that are satanic when played forwards :colbert:
I prefer songs that are satanic when played forwards :colbert:
But are all bright and cheery when played backwards?
"AND NOW HE RISES FROM THE DEEP DEPTHS OF HELL, SPUTTERING FIRE--"
*skritch*
"Lollipop, lollipop, oh lolli-lollipop..."
Interesting thing about the human mind is that it can take anything and warp it into something that it wants to hear/see/smell. Take trying to find satanic messages by playing music backwards for example.

No, you're just assuming, and thinking you're hearing something that's not there in the few songs you HAVE actually heard "backmasked."
Maybe some bands backmask their songs for fun, but otherwise it's just people making dumb assumptions out of a song being played the way it's not supposed to be.
I don't understand your fear of reversed music, I'm sorry to say, but I suppose theirs a way to conquer it. Try listening to silly, stupid songs backwards, like, say, Never Gonna Give You Up (Don't cry Rickroll, thread-dwellers, I'm just saying it's a cheery song with no message in it) by Rick Astley, or... Hell, the Chicken Dance or something.
At least it's not an utterly crippling phobia, I mean this is the first mention of playing songs backwards I've heard in about six years.

At the OP, backmasking can be cool. That and a lot of it is in your head. It allows you to bend it to whatever you want, really.
