I'm building a clock with nixie tubes and it involves electricity
I've been working on a 6-digit one for quite a while.
then, all of a sudden 4 out of 6 of my 74141 IC's fucked up and i have to wait for them to ship from the US D:
In what way are they the same thing? Aren't gamma rays a significantly shorter wavelength and more energized?
Not really, no.
Gamma rays are anything that is shorter than UV rays, x-rays are also anything that is shorter than UV rays. The only difference is their source, gamma rays are from the decay of elements, xrays are from (generally) electrical sources

I was at one point thinking of making an all digital, all vacuum tube (as in digital vacuum tube), mains synchronised nixie clock, then I realised I would need around 100 tubes and it would probably draw about a 1kw of power

There was a story I read somewhere that 15 of these were installed on the side of an apartment building. Apparently, the radiation these things pour out killed the garden next to the meter block, and gave several of the occupants lymphoma. Luckily, I still have an analog meter in my home.
This post gave me cancer.
NSFW video, what happens when you touch a high tension cable ? Unfortunate guy.

kind of
Because gamma and xrays are the same thing. It's just that gamma rays come from decaying elements and xrays come from other sources.
Anyway, while a meter could produce x-rays, they would have an energy under 240/110 volts and thus would be blocked by only a few cms of air.
The x-ray/gamma rays emitted by x-ray machines and radioactive materials is in excess of 30kV, with radioactive materials usually emitting in excess of 1-2MV
So yea, that meter thing killing a garden is complete bullshit
Never heard so much wrong stuff in a single post

Care to tell me why it's bullshit, genius, instead of just saying it is?
Strong words coming from someone whose been here less than a month

well
energy under 240/110 volts
Meant to say eV, that's simply a typo
When talking about EM energy, aren't you supposed to use E=hf?
