Hmmm, I'd say something but I don't know what you mean, so...
Well, I read about one thing that happens in one of his stories and it scarred me.
Was it 'The Killing Joke'?
Was it 'The Killing Joke'?
No, 'The Lost Girls'. I don't want to detail it any further to spare others.
Oh...say no more. Yeah well, his Superman stories have none of that. He rather does Pre-Crisis Superman justice. Not Elliot S Maggin but still, good, great even. [editline]26th April 2013[/editline] To be fair, it was that one book and I don't think Moore topped that.

I don't doubt the guy artistically, I just keep him at more than arms length.
Yeah I see where you're coming from. If you're willing to give him another shot, read up his pre-crisis Supes work sometime.
No, 'The Lost Girls'. I don't want to detail it any further to spare others.
Oh Christ lost girls was a weird fucking read. But yeah Alan Moore is a weird dude but a great writer. I mean come on.

Rasputin IS actually a necromancer and immortal just not evil. He currently lives among us as Alan Moore.
Finished Batgirl Vol 1 and Superman Action Comics Vol 1. Both kinda dropped off in quality after their "main" stories. The whole [sp]Gretel[/sp] story just seemed like a forced character contrast, not sutble like Superman/Lex Luthor or Batman/The Joker or even blatant like Superman/Bizarro, it might be unfair to compare a seemingly one-off character to the long-standing villians but still, just seems obvious and uninteresting to me. The whole thing with The Mirror was good though in my opinion. What a coincidence that Barbara would face TWO villians that connected to exactly what's happening to her emotionally. Now Superman, good "main" story but the last two issues were confusing, I had no idea what was going on outside the interjections of Superman's backstory, and I hate, hate, HATE it when [sp]those 3 superheroes from the future meet with pre-Superman Clark Kent. I feel the concept of Superman in-universe should not have influences from the future, it dimishes the idea of someone dedicating themselves standing up for the weak and helpless and becoming a living inspiration and symbol of hope if it was revealed to the character before they truly thought of it. It should be entirely self-generated not "it's destiny" or a sort of future-information paradox.[/sp] [editline]27th April 2013[/editline] Maybe I'm just trying to insert some of my own superhero story and ideas of what a superhero should be into my reading...
I started using a comic app for my iPhone, I'm thinking of which comics to buy. World War Hulk was on sale last time I saw it, too bad I already read it *kinda* recently [editline]27th April 2013[/editline] Of course reading comics like this is not optimal but it's the only way I can do it at the moment Sadface
Comics V2: Tank Girl Appreciation Station [editline]26th April 2013[/editline] I mean who doesn't want to read a comic set in post-apocalyptic australia about a pregnant bald chick who fucks kangaroos

It's not the same obviously and it will have to do...for now. Can't imagine sticking to this for a long time.
Don't forget my favorite comic of all time: It's the cyberpunk-themed adventures of Spider Jerusalem, the last investigative journalist in a dystopian USA metropolis where politics are corrupt and the media is full of shit. He's also addicted to the most exotic drugs, out of his fucking mind for the most part, violent, foul-mouthed and a genius. And he's going head-to-head with a corrupt president, armed only with his intellect and an unlicensed bowel disruptor gun. TransMet is something different in the world of comic books. We're really talking about a comic on cyberpunk journalism here so there is little action and a lot of words. The story follows Spider as he exposes social injustices, corrupt individuals, political scandals in a fictional US capital. What's so appealing about the books is how lovingly the universe is fleshed out so our protagonist never runs out of material to rant about, misguided individuals to physically or verbally curbstomp or just bizarre situations to get into. The main focus lies on comedy and how batshit insane Spider is, something that is pulled off brilliantly. There is some action if you're worried about that, it occurs very rarely but when it does it's very intense and violent. But the real fascinating thing is that, between the lines, it's a very observant series and underneath all the madness and over the top comedy lies pretty sophisticated social criticism and a very intriguing political thriller. In terms of communication technology, the series was far ahead of it's time, spider is pretty much a modern day blogger, written two decades ago. Overall, there's too much swearing to even mention, traditional and strange cyber-drugs, tripple titties, barcode-titted hookers, cranial explosions, everything.
Power Girl best -Girl.
Squirrel girl best girl
Squirrel girl best girl
Hmm... The unstoppable adorableness of Squirrel Girl verses the immoveable perfection of Power Girl... They surrender.
Hmm, an All-Star Superman reference. You get a winner.
Hmm, an All-Star Superman reference. You get a winner.
I will treasure it always
im noticing a distinct lack of Waypool and Deadpool/Cable in this thread Deadpool/Cable is a masterpiece and you should all check it out if you havent
You guys should read Injustice if you get the chance. It's pretty good!
I'm already bored of "Superman goes bad" stories... Probably would have read it if [sp]the Hawk Girl you play as is one from the non-fucked up universe[/sp] Spoilered just in case.
I finished black hole recently, it has completely put me off sex
Been reading The Punisher. Really liking it. Also learned that S.H.I.E.L.D. is a thing in those comics. Never knew they were set in the same world.
Anyone know which issue of Detective Comics takes place right after Crisis on Infinite Earths? I won a bid for all four issues of Batman Year One (Batman #404-407), but I'm not sure which number Detective Comics launches off with after Crisis.

Especially the ones that came out on the MAX Comics imprint. It's excellent, unrelentingly brutal stuff, arguably the best comics Marvel has put out since Frank Miller's work on Daredevil back in the 80s. Ennis' Nick Fury MAX comics are quite good as well, with the almost-finished Fury: My War Gone By already set to be one of the best series Marvel has put out during this decade. [editline]2nd May 2013[/editline] Almost-finished as in I'm pretty sure that there's only one more issue of it coming out.

So far (I'm at issue 50) I think the Mother Russia series is the best. I think the Man of Stone is a utter badass and it features Nick Fury (who is even more of a badass). What I've read so far is: - In the Beginning - Kitchen Irish - Mother Russia - Up is Down and Black is White - The Slavers - Barracuda - Man of Stone - Widowmaker

What I've read so far is: - In the Beginning - Kitchen Irish - Mother Russia - Up is Down and Black is White - The Slavers - Barracuda - Man of Stone - Widowmaker
The Slavers is my favorite MAX storyline, followed by Up Is Down And Black Is White and Long Cold Dark, the story you're about to read. The LCD(#54) conclusion might just be the most accomplished Punisher comic Ennis has ever written, so you're in for a good time. It's unfortunate that the first issue of the story is ruined by absolutely terrible coloring but eh, what can you do? Look into his shorter Punisher MAX comics as well. The Born miniseries is, in my opinion, the best origin(ugh) story since Batman: Year One and the various one-shots he did(Tyger, The End, The Cell) are not too shabby either, nor is the more comedy-oriented Barracuda miniseries. The End in particular is quite worthwhile, even if the fantastic Richard Corben artwork overshadows the actual writing. The Marvel Knights Punisher comics that predated Punisher MAX(the Welcome Back, Frank limited series as well as its ongoing follow-up) are much more lighthearted and slapstick in nature, but not all that inferior in actual quality so you'd probably like those too. Same goes for the MK Punisher: War Zone miniseries. If you want something in the same tone as Punisher MAX, look into the first Fury MAX miniseries (Fury vol. 2). I thought it was one of the guy's weaker comics of the past decade, inferior both to his Punisher work and the Fury comics that he would do next, but in general it's pretty well-liked. Stan Lee hates it, so you know it's worth looking into. The follow-up Fury: Peacemaker(not a MAX comic but a Marvel Knights one, so the violence is significantly toned down) is the most straightforward of his Fury comics and the new Fury MAX (My War Gone By) is best summed up as a combination of his work on Punisher MAX and his various war comics. It features two creators at the peak of their powers and it features appearances by Frank Castle and Barracuda. A real return to form for Ennis after a bit of a lackluster period. Basically fuck it, if it's written by Garth Ennis you should read it. Except if it's The Boys, that's just treading old ground and it's not particularly interesting.
