Felt the exact same opinion about Just Cause 2. Maybe I'm just not that big of a fan of open-world games but Just Cause 2 was extremely boring. I wanted to unlock more stuff and do some more of those crazy missions but the game just prevented me from doing that. That said, 3 seems near identical so I don't think I'm going to ever get it.
I kinda think Just Cause could use some heavier RPG elements. Give you a real benefit for exploring.
To be completely fair, and not to say this in a mean way, but you were the biggest one to fanboy over it pre-release. I wouldn't trust your review over a review like TB or credible gaming sites since I know that naturally you're going to enjoy it regardless of its actual merits of a game.
to be honest, i enjoyed the shit out of JC2 and i could declare myself a fanboy of the franchise as well. its literally the kind of game that you can enjoy for a quick rush of action and overall shenanigans. some people might be turned off by the actual "challenge" in the game or how the challenges aren't more than driving though hoops, but that would be a rather shallow opinion considering that (at least on JC2) these races took the full extent of the terrain. seeing the driving has been improved greatly on JC3, its a given its going to be far more enjoyable. JC3 is certainly not a brain dead game, but i guess its not the kind of action game people will lose their minds about.
Yeah I'm a massive fan of the game. However, if people say things that are relatively speaking, factually untrue about the game, then I will endeavour to correct them. Mercs 1 was the only good game in that franchise and it came out almost a decade ago. Yes it's a shame we don't have mercs 3. But don't act like this game isn't exactly what they billed it as. A big sandbox to do shit in. Having every building destructible really wouldn't ratchet the game up to 11. I've actually played the game, and I went into it knowing what I was getting To me, it seems most people are pissed they can't just get every game to be their personal dream game. For me, this is great. The wing suit is enormous fun. Driving finally works worth a damn. The parachute is better than before. The grapples are better. The gun play feels tighter even though it was never a shooter at its heart. If they took out progression so you just had everything off the bat, people would bitch about that. It's a lose lose for them to put it in or take it out because gamers are a large audience and some hate some things and some don't.
Having played it I'm inclined to agree with HumanAbyss. I watched TB's video while the game was unpacking last night and honestly he showcased the challenges very poorly. Some of the challenges are as boring as fuck, like the standard drive through hoops ones. There are, however, some really fun ones in there. There's ones that put you in a situation like the movie "Speed", where you have to keep over a certain speed until you reach the location you're supposed to use the car to blow up. There's others where you have to use a magnet attached to a vehicle to pick up lots of ore and put them in a certain location. The wingsuit challenges are just going through hoops sure, but the wingsuit is so much fun and they've picked some very nice wingsuit challenge locations. These are much more fun than the frenzy challenge that TB showed off, with a stroppy commentary to make it feel additionally boring. In addition to this, these challenges take no more than 2 minutes, and they're all easy enough where you can get at least 3 gears out of it without a problem, which is enough to get all the unlocks in any of the trees.
Not to mention, each unlock and challenge are tree specific. Hate driving? You will never have to do a single one. Yeah the games not perfect but I really hate to see people not even give it a fair shake.
I have the game, in overall it is a fun game, but i am worrying that after total 40 hours i will quit playing the game, and never touch it again. Because this happened with the mad max game for me. So many content in one "single player" mode, sure it alot of content to be satisfied for, but there this one thing in my mind, "CO-OP" to play with friends and messing around with it. Just why do these open-world games not have any single co-op? For instance, Far Cry 4 did this nicely, there is co-op in it for a friend to join with you're journey and taking over outposts and stuff. Having hilarious reactions to what is happening in far cry. What i am trying to say is that co-op motivates you to continue with the game. Sure you'll have to do the campaign on you're own, but if Mad Max/ Just Cause 3 had the option to free roam the world and take over outposts, or liberating towns in JC3, things would be way more better.
