Nobodys going to be doing anything with Overwatch, all the models are getting taken down
Oh trust me. They're very easily acquirable, if you know where to look. There's been an effort to archive and preserve all of the Overwatch model ports, and put them into a single collection.
So this, is where the views are coming from...
Doesn't apply to SFM only, it's just that SFM is the go-to tool nowadays. Used to be MMD back when. That said this is pretty much exactly why I don't use it as much anymore. I hopped on the fan-content-using-SFM train years ago and it was fun and all back then but shit's so oversatured with absolute garbage these days that putting in any kind of effort just goes completely unnoticed when every other person with one functioning hand can crank out effortless junk in half an hour and net hundreds of dollars and thousands of views more because they were just faster. If YouTube rewarded the effort of the content made rather than rewarding the speed and frequency at which it's made, maybe it wouldn't be this way.

Hell I think it even applies with 2d animation too doesn't it? How the most popular trend will attract more viewers than a well developed video.

And its not even limited to YouTube or the internet. It happens all the time on TV. Why else would almost every network have its own reality TV series?
You guys aren't 'owed' these views just because you put effort into it.
Nobodys going to be doing anything with Overwatch, all the models are getting taken down
You haven't seen the loads of futa overwatch porn out there, huh?
To be honest, there are always going to be people who are going make videos about the most popular things, which in this case is FNAF and to a lesser extant, Undertale. Eventually, those people will move on to make videos about the next popular thing and so on. It's just how it is at the moment. Still, that isn't going to discourage me to get in to SFM film making, but that will take some time to get there as I am still learning the basics of SFM. So I am probably be sticking with making SFM posters for now. Eventually once I know enough about SFM, maybe I might make a video similar to this SFM video.
You guys aren't 'owed' these views just because you put effort into it.
exactly, i wouldn't watch a generic cops-and-robbers action movie made in fuckin sfm just because somebody worked hard on it work hard on something interesting instead, maybe then people will watch it
You guys aren't 'owed' these views just because you put effort into it.
This is true, although I don't think anybody in this thread holds that sentiment.
Doesn't apply to SFM only, it's just that SFM is the go-to tool nowadays. Used to be MMD back when.
That's true, one of the main strengths of SFM is how accessible it is to new users. Models are easy to get, environments are easy to get which has really been a double-edged sword.
Nobodys going to be doing anything with Overwatch
Short animations have already been done with Overwatch. Trying to stop distributions of models is very very difficult my friend. Look, I'm not some paradigm of higher patrichian tastes, people enjoy complete shit sometimes and I'm not any different. Sometimes shitty ironic meme humor is what hits the spot. Although I do grow weary of being bukakke blasted by it day in and day out. Really the popularity of whatever video reflects the current zeigeist of what people on YouTube generally want. For this reason I can't completely blame YouTube. It seems like, if you want people to enjoy your content then you either make content geared towards them or change their tastes to align with yours. Although I'm not opposed to changing people's tastes I am opposed to controlling what people watch.
