it actually is male power fantasy though the main demographic of video games is men do you think they're actually trying to appeal to women with buff dudes?
if you ever been on /y/ - yaoi board on 4chan theres a ton of assassins creed/zelda/tf2/witcher/metal gear solid/mortal kombat/dragon age/league of legends/Call of duty/dota 2/etc. porn threads featuring all the attractive buff guys fucking eachother. seriously, go check right now. most of what i listed is there along with more popular video games i haven't. so yeah, girls like me find the male power fantasies attractive. just like how guys find girl power fantasies attractive.
That essay linked a few posts up shows why the "male power fantasy" argument is complete bunk.
Women generally prefer strong and successful men.
so yeah, girls like me find the male power fantasies attractive. just like how guys find girl power fantasies attractive.
Betrayal to the female race. An aunt Jemima.
I think I've said it before but the male power fantasy argument thing strikes me as ironically sexist, it just strikes as being like the women aren't allowed to like sex line of thinking when people refuse to acknowledge something like that big burly buff guys are attractive to women.
The argument isn't that buff guys aren't attractive to women it's that the buff guys weren't made with being attractive to women in mind, it was made with a male consumer in mind. Therefore, male power fantasy. You are completely missing the point as to why people say that in erotic literature, YES, buff men are a sexual fantasy for women. In video games however, buff men are a power fantasy for guys and aren't made with the female consumer in mind, females liking it is just a byproduct.

Is there something wrong with that? Quite a few people dismiss "men are sexualized too" with "but power fantasy".
Male power fantasy goes well beyond just muscles anyway, that's just one part of the formula. The point is: The majority of video games are made with male consumer in mind. It has much to do as to why the product was made as the product itself. Saying buff men in video games is "Sexualizing" them is missing the point because they aren't buff because they're being sexualized for women to appeal to women, they're buff because of the male power fantasy to appeal to men. Women like it, but that's a byproduct.

aren't most male mcs not buff at all though actually, aren't big buff dudes enemies and dumb most of the time?
Do you have more to back it up then repeating it over and over.
Not really because you guys repeatedly miss the point I'm trying to make and don't really address any of my points.
Not really because you guys repeatedly miss the point I'm trying to make and don't really address any of my points.
Because your points are rubbish sorry
Where does this whole "male power fantasy" thing originate from and how old is it? And more importantly how outdated is it because who wants to be "muscle men" even these days.
male power fantasy almost always fucking sucks except duke nukem and shadow warrior
Duke Nukem as of Forever is the worst character ever. Like, how can we even sympathize with a protag who's response to the 2 twins being raped, impregnated, and subsequently killed is "Looks like you're... fucked hehe :)"
Duke Nukem of Forever is literally the epitome of shitty male power fantasy classic Duke is the epitome of not shit
Classic Duke has aged about as well as milk. He's literally a meme machine. Without memes he would die.
i'd say duke 3d is still a good game and the duke of that game is still a "good" character as a caricature of 80s and 90s action film heroes
Seriously? The avatar Card? Wow. Okay so let me get this straight. Sexual Content is sexist? Even though the market has Female and MALES sexualized? Doesn't sound sexist to me. Asia also sexualizes their Males btw.
Mind you pandering to an audience can very well be often sexist. And it does happen in videogames very often. Yes both men and women tend to be fantasies but generally in ways that appeal to men. It's rare to find a game that panders more to women than to men. It's also important to note that the sexualisation of females tends to be heavier. As to Anita though. I've got a tendency to strongly disagree with her on very many points and the video nails most so...
i personally have little problem with what anita says since knowing her history of working with scam PUA speakers I know that she probably doesn't care at all about her message and is only trying to get monetary gain from it. i'm fairly certain that she's just jonathan mcintosh's bullhorn

did you know many women play games did you know many women also enjoy games did you know many games that women play don't also shun women and treat them like sex dolls and usually have some kind of depth did you know many women aren't allergic to sexuality
You know, I was thinking about this exact quote earlier today. Notice how she doesn't say anything about solving the issue?
Because people are generally opposed to censorship and the government trying to control culture.
I was joking when I posted that, didn't know she actually said it. A sane feminist would never utter those words.
so by that logic anita sarkeesian is a sexist
so by that logic anita sarkeesian is a sexist
And if she says no, she admits that not everything is sexist. It's a lose-lose situation for here.
I was joking when I posted that, didn't know she actually said it. A sane feminist would never utter those words.
Welcome to the games industry.
Welcome to the games industry.
I wouldn't consider that idiot at all a part of the games industry, more the opposite [editline]31st October 2015[/editline] she doesn't even play video games
I wouldn't consider that idiot at all a part of the games industry, more the opposite [editline]31st October 2015[/editline] she doesn't even play video games
Exactly. Like it not she has embedded her self in the industry and has real influence.
