I loved this movie Too bad the thread is full of LOLCOOL atheists who are too close-minded to watch the film because it contains religious themes
Religion isn't all bad Facepunch. This movie was a great and I would gladly see it again.
A Post Apocalyptic movie with religious themes? Never seen one of them before.
I saw this film two days ago. I'm glad someone made a thread, because it was kickass. Also, the twist was awesome.
I enjoyed it. Tom Waits was good in it.
I liked the bit about the hands too. I was like "Why are they asking for his hands?" then I realised and felt well good about myself.
Fallout 3? The Book of Eli? The Book of Fallout?
[sp]They check people's hands because cannibals hands shake, like the old people's[/sp]
I love the movie, to be honest I enjoyed it more than Avatar. Also, this scene with a guy hunting an animal (This one when movie begins). It don't make any sense! ANY FREAKING SENSE!
I'm getting a bit fed up of this glut of post apocalyptic movies; they're not bringing anything new to the table. It seems like the same stale concepts metered out time and again.
I'm sick of people bashing this movie simply because it's centered around a man carrying a bible west. Big. Fucking. Whoop. Don't let your religious preference poison the art that is The Book of Eli. For fucks sake, I'm Atheist and I don't like hardcore religious fanatics who worship the bible every day and use it like a handbook to lead their life, but this movie seriously was an amazing movie. So what if it's about God. So what if there's "miracles" in it. So what if there's a bible in it? It's got Denzel Washington fucking decapitating swarms of raiders with a big ass knife. Watch the movie. Enjoy it. But the action isn't what made it for me. It really is a good movie because Denzel is one charismatic character. And, if it weren't for that unsuspecting twist at the end, I would not have loved this movie as much as I do. And another thing. You know what I loved most about this movie? The fact you're tossed right into it. There's no explaining. It's a surprisingly intelligent film because everything you learn is from implications. I am deeply disappointed, Facepunch. I thought most of you guys were better than this, spotting good movies when you see them. This movie was fucking amazing, I don't care what religion you are. See it.
If you don't see this film because you don't believe in God you're an idiot. You might as well not see any film ever, because most if not all are fiction to some degree.
i hate how people are being turned off to the fact that the bible is in it. grow the fuck up. did you stop playing half-life 2 when you met gregori?
This movie rocked. It really doesnt have much religious stuff in it and it doesnt go all "god saves humanity." Just go watch it and dont be freaked out by a freaking bible!
Only one good thing came out of this movie.
Saw the film a few days ago. Overall, I suppose it was a decent effort at showing us something new in the post-apocalyptic genre, but otherwise, it wasn't anything special, though Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman gave some pretty solid performances.
i hate how people are being turned off to the fact that the bible is in it. grow the fuck up. did you stop playing half-life 2 when you met gregori?
I'm turned off by the general message of it. A film about Christianity (e.g. documenting the life and times of St. Patrick) might appeal to me, but a film that has the explicit message that the survival of humanity hinges on the Bible does not appeal to me. The message presented is that this Carnegie bloke needs the Bible to form a working society, and that the word of God cannot be misinterpreted. It's basically commenting that a secular society is not sustainable; atheists cannot stay in peace (it's pretty much intimated that the reason for the flash was because people are oh so terrible and dreadful and they burned all the Bibles). I wouldn't even mind this if it was a good movie - I'm a big fan of "Doctor Faustus" and depending on the performance of the play, it can be seen as quite strong Christian propaganda. But this film was rubbish; it's like someone's tried to make a post-apocalyptic western using the Bible as a stand in for industrialisation or something.
Holy shit, Splurgy, you're thick. The Bible-burning came AFTER the war. Carnegie wants the Bible to CONTROL society. The town was working OK, except for Carnegie's control. Carnegie is an EVIL man. He wants the Bible for EVIL means.
Just another shallow preachy movie that will probably end with all the main characters looking up at the sky and the camera zooming out rapidly from top view prior to the closing credits.
Funny how that doesn't happen. Eli's quest was to bring the bible to a safe place where it and other books like the Qur'an and the Torah will help unite humanity to rebuild. as soon as i saw that it said "HE WILL DELIVER US" on the poster, i instantly knew that i wasn't going to be seeing it
People like you are very thick.
yeah i'm bummed that i'm stupid and skipped out on an incredible film that has a walloping 45% fresh on rottentomatoes sorry dude, movie sucks dick. try watching some actual good films instead of this retarded bullshit
I couldn't help but think of Fallout 3 the entire movie. Also the beginning part with the cat thing, made no sense.
People need to eat. He hunted a cat.
You haven't even seen the film, so how can you pass your stupid ass judgement.
no one i know that saw the movie liked it; everyone thought that it was too preachy and the only good thing was gary oldman (who is always incredible) this, compounded with the fact that it got sub mediocre reviews makes me reluctant to see it, this is hardly stupid ass judgment, it's common sense. it's basically the same reason that I didn't legion or any other retarded movie that came out recently
You can't say something sucks unless you have seen it yourself. Sorry that your opinion is based solely on what's popular amongst your friends. You should try thinking for yourself sometime, tends to make you look less like a moron when you actually have an opinion of your own.
[sp] It was hinted at a LOT during the movie, you really didn't pick up on that? Here: He didn't shoot the cat immediately, he had to hear it purr or whatever. When his ipod ran out of battery, he was clicking all the buttons like he didn't know which one was which. He was wearing sunglasses most of the time. When he was at the cannibals' house, he had to kick the stairs and click (some blind people actually taught themselves sonar, in real life). Even then, when he was caught, he said he didn't see the obvious "No trespassing" sign. When the girl gave him food at Carnagie's hotel room, he told her a specific way of how people got blind, the nuclear war. I think there are more, I can't remember[/sp]
On the other hand he kicks so much ass you could be forgiven for not jumping to that conclusion.
