The Book of Eli - an upcoming Post Apocalyptic movie.

I saw this the other day. It's shit. The only good thing was Gary Oldman's performance, but that's to be expected from him.
[sp]I hated how Denzel was like "this book started the war that scorched the Earth" or something to that effect and then he brings it to the city and has it copied anyway.[/sp]
Better put that in spoilers I suppose.
I'm going to see it; I love post-apocalyptic movies :v:
All of a sudden there are so many badass post-apocalyptic movies coming out. Children of Men, The Road, now this!
They're making/have made a The Road film? I loved that book.

So did I. Couldn't put it down.
Saw it yesterday. It was awesome.
This film is amazing. Sure, it has a bible in it, so what.
I thought this movie was the best I've seen this year. The camera angles, the sound, the acting was all superb. Even Mila Kunis did a really good job in this movie. I was surprised at how well she played her part.
I enjoyed this film. It was good fun and not overly preachy. The ending was a bit daft but it was forgiveable. In all honesty I preferred this over The Road - The Road was deeper and made me think more but, in the end, it was too obviously adapted from source material and so many scenes had such little meaning and substance that they were clearly just put in there for the fans of the book. If I had to watch one again, it would be the more action-packed feature.
Cormac McCarthy cannot write. He has a fucking phobia of speech marks.
I want to see it. It has a god among men, Gary Oldman in it, and Denzel Washington is pretty badass most of the time too. I've never gotten over Man on Fire(I think that's the movie, memory fails right now).
That's a good movie.
I watched it recently.
IT SUCKED.
It got SOOO preachy at the end, what with "God is protecting me", and "Worshipping god is the one to path to happiness", and all that shit.
It could've been so good, but it sucked.
Waste of money

The Road should have not been made into a movie, don't get me wrong it wasn't bad but they really shouldn't of made it into a movie.

Thought the Road sucked, too.
Nothing happened in the entire movie, and it was depressing as fuck.
Every time I see the advert for the book of Eli, I always end up thinking how it could be related to HL2. Obviously the main guy looks like Eli, but then there's stuff like they are getting attacked by an alien race aswell.

It's supposed to be. The book does a better job because it describes how much they suffer.
[sp] It was hinted at a LOT during the movie, you really didn't pick up on that? Here: He didn't shoot the cat immediately, he had to hear it purr or whatever. When his ipod ran out of battery, he was clicking all the buttons like he didn't know which one was which. He was wearing sunglasses most of the time. When he was at the cannibals' house, he had to kick the stairs and click (some blind people actually taught themselves sonar, in real life). Even then, when he was caught, he said he didn't see the obvious "No trespassing" sign. When the girl gave him food at Carnagie's hotel room, he told her a specific way of how people got blind, the nuclear war. I think there are more, I can't remember[/sp]
[sp]Well, everyone wore sunglasses outside. I found that a little weird.[/sp]
Just another shallow preachy movie that will probably end with all the main characters looking up at the sky and the camera zooming out rapidly from top view prior to the closing credits.
Then a plane crashes.

So you're saying the reason this movie sucked was because it promoted christian opinions? That's pretty shallow.
Well, obviously movies are rated by whether they promote what we believe or not. Not by camerawork, plot, soundtrack, acting, lighting and all that other crap no one cares about.
In my opinion. Awesome movie.
[sp]Well, everyone wore sunglasses outside. I found that a little weird.[/sp]
Usually in desert environments things are very bright, also assuming that [sp] there was a nuclear war[/sp] the brightness would be magnified by particles in the atmosphere.
this movie wasn't in enough theaters and the trailer wasn't good enough for me to care enough to go far out and watch it
wonder how little money it made
Fallout 3?
The Book of Eli?
The Book of Fallout?
The Fallout of Book?
I keep thinking this is some kind of Myst movie.

the fallout book of eli
I'm going to bump this because I just watched the movie and loved it, but to my surprise it wasn't received well by critics, and the reasoning was pretty much "Too preachy nice try Christians :downs:!"
I don't get it. Eli was basically superhuman, what with his repeated ass-kicking of everybody and anybody despite being [sp]blind[/sp]. That on it's own is fine for a movie, as it's a fucking movie and it doesn't have to realistic; you can have a god-like character who's a badass because it's entertaining to watch. Then just because it's GOD protecting him and allowing him to be so badass, people rip the movie to shreds because it's "preachy".
Grow the fuck up people, i'm an atheist and I saw no problem with it. It boils my blood that people get so uppity about religion.
What I don't understand is that:
[sp]You see the Koran, the buddhist book, sacred hindu text, and etc. but it's the bible that's gonna save the world? That's so pro-Christian, it makes your head spin[/sp]

God damn this is exactly what I mean. The message, if anything, is that FAITH will save the world, not any specific religion.
Look, i'll go ahead and agree that it's pro-Christian, sure. That doesn't make the movie any less awesome, and if you think it does you're clearly biased and ANTI-Christian/Religion. Look at Red Dawn, that movie was hella Pro-America, but it was still a good movie. Why can't people just enjoy movies for the story? It's not like you're going to convert because of it.
I gotta say they show the wrong side of Faith too.[sp] The town owner actually did all this to get the book so he could control his people.[/sp]
The Road should have not been made into a movie, don't get me wrong it wasn't bad but they really shouldn't of made it into a movie.
Mmmm.. I want to read the book, but I don't know if I should read the book after seeing the movie.
=/
I gotta say they show the wrong side of Faith too.[sp] The town owner actually did all this to get the book so he could control his people.[/sp]
[sp]He did that because of the new young people that didn't know about Faith, and what did the Christians do to new people in the world? Try to control them, and their people. So thus is what he was going to do, create the whole mess that made the apocalypse come true.[/sp]
Posters above nailed why this movie shouldn't just be tossed aside as a preachy Christian movie. They don't just build up Religion as the savior of humanity; they clearly show that it can easily be used to destroy it. A preachy Christian movie would only show the good, otherwise how is it preachy?

I didn't like it because the story was so bad. It boils my blood that people would say religion is why people think this movie stunk. There were a few good action scenes, but this has to be one of the worst movies I've seen in the last 2 years.
I did not think it revolved around The Bible 'saving the world', at the end, when I saw the other religious texts, what first came to my mind is that other people of other faiths had been lead there on a similar trip that Eli was taking.
