I didn't like it because the story was so bad. It boils my blood that people would say religion is why people think this movie stunk. There were a few good action scenes, but this has to be one of the worst movies I've seen in the last 2 years.
Nice try to be clever and use what I said against me, but if you read it again you'll notice I never said religion was the only reason why people thought the movie sucked. I said that in the majority of the reviews that said it sucked, the main complaint was religion.
The story was bad...why? It was one of the worst movies you've seen recently...why? The story was by no means oscar-worthy, that's not what i'm getting at. It wasn't overly complicated and had a few holes here and there, but it was enjoyable and did the job fine.
"I don't like this film because I believe God is fictional and therefore seeing him in a fictional film offends my beliefs"
:downs:
snip (fucking spoiler tags weren't working!)
The message I got from this movie was pro-literacy not pro-christian. You'll find what you want to find.
Some people use the scenes from that trailer as a Fallout 3: The Movie trailer.
Major bump, but I just finished watching this. It's a fucking amazing movie.
hE JUST Alooks like a crazy hobo
et al
I liked the movie a lot. Atmosphere looked just like fallout 3 as well.
Just finished watching it.
It's awesome.
Its okay, I just hated the whole plot being formed around religion.
Great view.

It kinda wasn't.
I just watched it and found it really stupid. One of those uninspired action movies with a 'badass' hero who
beats up and kills everything whilst being mysterious and deep. It had nice visuals and action scenes, but
the plot can go fuck itself. Guy gets [sp]enlightened[/sp] and wanders apocalyptic wasteland to get the last [sp]bible (if you didn't figure this from the first minutes of the movie)[/sp]
reprinted and kills many people in the progress. Way too much religious bullshit and unlogical plot holes for me.

The whole movie was based around religion. You must seriously be blind and deaf not to realize that.

Nice 'unlogical' grammar dude
Just saw it, was a fun movie, not any masterpiece but entertaining.
Eli did not necessarily receive a message from God. He believes it came from God, but it could have been a hunch, a hallucination or hell, even a sat nav. Whatever it is though, it gave him hope. Hope which gave him the determination and will to carry on. Oldman's character wanted to use the hope religious brings to manipulate people. If you think it's all based around religion that's your opinion. If you don't like that that's your problem.
I didn't enjoy it. It was good at the beginning, especially when he wiped those guys out under the tunnel, but as the story progressed, it became much more boring.
It was alright I guess, but I wouldn't watch it a second time.
Just saw it, was actually incredbily good, one of the best movies i've seen all year probably.
Anyone who says that it's preaching christianity, get the fuck out of here, because it really isn't.

Wow your a fucking idiot. He wasn't "enlightened", and it was barely religious at all. How about this, i go into the next Star Trek film and say it was bullshit because of how "futuristic" and "blasphemous" it was, that'll show'em.
Late thread, but still awesome movie.
STORY RELATED SPOILER BELOW:
[sp]do you really think Eli was blind the whole time? I mean not many people who can see can read brail. Plus he also seemed to have a keen hearing to many things that others did not hear. Especially with the part when he shot the bird out of the air. I also believe that if he was blind that God helped him see. [/sp]
[editline]12:30AM[/editline]
Also, I'm not a very religious type person, but this movie was outstanding and I enjoyed almost every minute of it. The only part I hated was when [sp]Solara was about to get raped[/sp] :ohdear:

[sp]In the first few minutes of the movie, he bumps into a dresser, which can gave you slight hint. And all of his heightened senses such as smell and hearing. [/sp]

[sp]Well, he did say he didn't see the sign when he got to that one house. And it's common knowledge that your other senses are heightened when you lose one of them since you depend on them more. Theres one kid in real life who's blind but can see his entire environment mentally by making clicking noises to act as sonar like a bat or dolphin. Plus, he aimed and shot at the people AFTER they fired their guns, which tells you something as well.
Plus, his accuracy could probably be attributed to his lack of sight ironicaly, since when you have sight, your mind puts all the peices together visually and usually creates some form of doubt when attempting to do a task, which will always hinder you subconsciously, so without vision, he technicaly had no doubts to hinder him, thus allowing for instant precision[/sp]

it's an interesting theory, but I don't think he was blind
To the "LAWL FUK GOD DERP" kiddies;
It was really more of a satire on organized religion, seen by Oldman trying to use the Bible to enthrall the masses and by one of Eli's lines which was more or less: "...they started burning these books because they thought it was the cause of the war...".
Great movie and as an atheist I think it delivers a great message. People thought the book was the reason the war started and they may have been right to an extent but it was only because it was used to manipulate and not for the purpose Eli was trying to achieve. He wanted it in the right hands so history wouldn't do the same thing.
In the wrong hands such a powerful book can be used for great evil.
Eli was blind, script writers even said so and there are numerous points in the movie that prove he is. While there are some that prove he may not that is simply just poor screen-play which is to be expected in a film, especially when trying to portray something like being blind.
I loved the film, it was just fucking perfect in my eyes.
Because it has religion in it is a really stupid reason to dislike it. I mean it would be different if it was really preachy but instead it's just part of the plot and not all that significant.
The visuals were very unique and impressive, but that's about it.
It barely even got into religion, you all are idiots.
it's an interesting theory, but I don't think he was blind
He was.
[sp] When he went to the Cannibal's house, he had to kick the stairs and distinctly made a clicking sound, indicating he knew sonar.
Also, when Eli got shot, he didn't know where anyone was, and looked confused rather than in pain.
[/sp]
The amount of hypocrisy still present in this thread amuses me. I like how people who are atheists who claim to be open minded are bashing this just because a bible is in it and it "focuses heavily on religion."
That doesn't make you any better than people who blindly follow the Bible. After all, you're blindly hating on it.
I'm sure a lot of people in this thread are fans of Fallout 3. Did you quit playing Fallout 3 when you saw a Bible verse in it? The plot revolved around that, too, you know.
The Bible can actually be a very good thing to humanity. We've all seen it. It's a good thing to turn to for morals. But over the course of time, we've seen what happens when it's taken too far. It's implied that's what happened in this movie. People took it too far, and it lead to the near total annihilation of humanity.
Eli took the Bible west to get it copied, in hope that nuclear war wouldn't break out again and that we would finally learn from our mistakes.
it's an interesting theory, but I don't think he was blind
Yeah, I guess that long zoom onto his obviously burnt eyes wasn't a sign he was blind at all.
Also, the movie symbolized the good and bad uses of the bible, for example:
Eli was the good, and tried to redeem humanity by using the Bible to bring hope to the wasteland.
Carnegie was trying to use the Bible to pretty much bring people under his oppression.
