The Bible can actually be a very good thing to humanity. We've all seen it. It's a good thing to turn to for morals. But over the course of time, we've seen what happens when it's taken too far. It's implied that's what happened in this movie. People took it too far, and it lead to the near total annihilation of humanity.

Sorry to fan the flames, but the bible a good source of morals? Sure its got some good bits, but when people do horrible things in the name of the bible, most of the time it is because they are taking it literally, not exaggerating it...
Yes. And that's what happens when people take it too far. When they take it literally. If you keep to the fact it's fiction and just use it as a guideline for what's good and what's bad, and at the same time formulate some of your own beliefs, it's a great source for morals.
He was.
[sp] When he went to the Cannibal's house, he had to kick the stairs and distinctly made a clicking sound, indicating he knew sonar.
Also, when Eli got shot, he didn't know where anyone was, and looked confused rather than in pain.

He seems to be blind at the end but he isn't for the majority of the film
I only noticed a few days ago but he has dilated pupils, hence he's visually impaired but not blind until the end.
Don't get how he turns blind though.

[sp]He went blind due to the "flash" of the war, suggesting he looked at a nuclear explosion or something. He asks that guy's wife when she went blind, and she said the "flash"[/sp]

[sp]That doesn't explain him turning blind over the time he did, especially since he was only impaired.[/sp]
Movie was awesome, the trailers made it look like some sort of matrix action flick withoud the proper apocalypse feeling but the film was really, really fucking grey.
It was a little bit to much centered on religion however. Anyone notices that [sp] All the guys on Alcatraz are sure that the new bible will safe the world, yet they put it next to the quran on the book shelf... [/sp]

The crusades weren't because of the bible if that's what your referencing, it was because of a dick pope.

It wasn't going to "Save the world", they were planning on "re-educating" the world, by collecting all books, the bible wasn't going to singlehandedly raise a new civilization, just a very important part of the collection because of how rare it was.
I liked the movie a lot. Denzel was great in it.

[sp]He was completely blind the whole time. He has been blind in the wasteland for 30+ years. He's learned how to be good without eyes.[/sp]

This.
I really didn't like Mila Kunis's role. Instead of being grateful for Eli letting her stay in his room she started bitching over the book.
I didn't like this movie. Felt like it was missing something.
I find it hard to understand the religious aspect of the movie because it puts the final verdict into your hands wether religion was the evil that destroyed the earth or in-fact was there to safe it.
Am I the only one who absolutely hated this movie?

No.
Yes.

This movie was fucking incredible.
I really liked it. Some of the camera work was really nice, especially during the gunfight at the [sp]cannibal couples house.[/sp]
I thought it was kinda dumb how the girl [sp]went all badass like at the very end. She had been useless throughout the whole movie and now suddenly she's gonna go all Mad Max?[/sp]
It's not coming to Finland? :geno:
Atleast IMDB doesn't have any release dates for Finland

[sp] Eli was like a prophet, and Solara was his disciple. When Eli died, she took it upon her to carry on Eli's legacy[/sp]

Yeah, I got that, but still. She was so useless so the whole time.
Finished watching it today, I loved the ending.
I like this movie. It could have done without the religious aspects, but the message of the bible was a good message certainly in a post apocalyptic world.
I watched it with a friend of mine a week ago. It was a bit strange storywise, but it looked good.
/Btw, how do I use spoilers in here?
//I found it out myself, nvm. [sp]test[/sp]
An Australian show called David and Margaret At The Movies reviewed this a few weeks ago. They said it was fun and entertaining but left a bit to be desired. It's very "I'm badass so I can take out 20 henchman with one kick."
Still, I really like Denzel Washington and I think he was absolutely great in Hurricane so I'll probably see it with friends.
I'm not really a fan of religion but I think the pro-religion message here was actually good, and not inclusive to Christians (He puts the book next to other religious texts).
Also greatest machete fight ever
How do I use spoiler tags?

This thread should be archived due to the sheer number of idiots it contains.
I think the book Eli was carrying had to be something controversial because if he turned up at Alcatraz with the hungry fucking caterpillar, he would of got shot in the face.
Or even so, even with a book like The Da Vinci Code, it still wouldn't have had such an effect as did the bible. First choice was obviously the Kuran, but Muslims would have gone fucking bananas over it and declared Jihads left right and center. It is very subtly offensive.
Saw this a couple days ago, great movie. It had good action (I especially liked the fight scene in the shadows under the bridge) and a good story too. I don't think it "glorified" religion or something like that, and did a good job of showing both sides of it like with how [sp]Carnegie was going to use religion to basically brainwash people.[/sp] Also spoiler tags are [ sp ] [ /sp ] without the spaces.
I like Mad Max.

Carnegie represents religion as it is today, Eli represents the good intentions of religion. That's debatable and I don't want an argument, but that's what they seemed to be going for.

Thank you sir.
Look. This movie had several points that could be interpreted as a religious or Christian message. But it was never, ever, in your face, and it could easily be interpreted some other way. It's a movie about a man trying to keep an immense power from falling into the wrong hands. The film could easily be cast as a message against organized religion.
