You know, it's not really a joke when people are actually claiming this as evidence that the console is bad. There'll be plenty of fun things to play if for no reason other than the console can supposed play Android games. Not sure why everyone is so determined for this to fail, it's just a cheap little box that's really open for developers to work on.
They already make small android computers that can plug into a television for like 40 bucks
Can you post some examples, and are they a similar level of performance to the tegra chip in the ouya?
Don't know why so many people are shitting on OUYA, for 99$ you get
1) An android device capable of running multiple apps and games
2) The ability to run a large amount of emulators
3) Live streaming Freeview television (in the UK at least)
4) The ability to stream Netflix, Hulu, etc
5) Watch locally/network stores films and other video
Its basically a more capable Roku box.
Don't forget that it comes with Onlive integrated. Its basically better than the Onlive console itself.

Except people in this thread are taking it seriously.
The tegra 3 chip inside is fan cooled but the console has absolutely no air holes
This isn't even true for anybody wondering, there's vents on the bottom and the top. Literally a 2 second google search or look on youtube could have told you that

this is gonna be so useful
Did anyone actually think Ouya was a good idea?
I did and still do, it's a $99 all in one home theater/emulator/arcade solution. Plus Netflix/Hulu/Amazon Video/HBO GO.

Yeah, and they're super shitty Asian-made dongles with little to no development support. You get what you pay for.
Dedicated linux machine engineered by nerds: fancy but expensive because it IS fancy.
Games for said machine: just as shitty as any other knock-off game you will find bundled with Ubuntu.
That's the thing, people can trash the OUYA and be like "it's not a gaming console and it's a more expensive Raspberry Pi"
Well last time I checked, the Raspberry Pi only has 2 USB ports, one of which will have to be used for a WiFi dongle and the other a keyboard/mouse and if you want to do anything useful, an external harddrive, oh shit you're out of USB slots. You can use an adapter that adds another few, oh wait, it doesn't have enough power to support that. It has a shitty processor, doesn't even come with a case/remote/decent cooling system.
I'm not trashing the Raspberry Pi, it definitely has its uses but running XBMC off of it? Get out of here.
The power of a mobile phone, with the portability of a console!

In other news, Raspberry Pi and OUYA now in heated debate: Who has the stupider name?

I like Raspberry Pi, but I think a pun can be funny.

We run XBMC on our Raspberry Pi, mostly as a uPnP/Airplay viewer. Watching something on YouTube? Just push a button and its on a TV. Got something to watch on a memory stick? Plug it in, and use the mobile phone/tablet application as a remote. It's really relatively useful. It even supports 1080p h.264 video relatively well because of some GPU wizardry.

The next generation will be amazing
It's not a console, it's a gimmick device. It's not focusing on being competitive with actual games consoles. Perhaps the same can be said about the Wii U and most "techie" devices today.
