I think i read somewhere that it's a 20% chance that we're being simulated on a some kind of computer. Then again, how the hell would they know that? But when i think about it.. It's possible, no doubt about it.
I myself tend to have nihilistic thoughts whenever I don't like something. Like homework: "I could just blow this all off and take the punishment, I'm going to die someday, and nothing happens after that, so why should I care? [editline]08:14PM[/editline] Simooooon!!!!
I find it funny OP posted this expecting serious responses.
Recently, over the past few months - a concept that has embedded deeply into the roots of my mind, has over shadowed my beliefs in reality. I no longer believe that other people exist other than me and feel that I'm merely in a form of simulator, dream or physical environment in which everyone (including all other entities that appear self-conscious) are merely pseudo self-aware entities. I also feel that this could be some kind of game in which everything - the environment - is autonomous but features additional plug-in points from which I can provide input. I'm wondering if anyone can prove to me that they actually exist against the above conditions and can also give me absolute proof that they're not scripted and exist as an actual self.
I actually thought about this once but its highly not accepted by others in a/our "simulation"
Also OP Came up with this idea because either a: He's stressed and needs a way to remind himself that his problems are insignificant, or not even real or b: He's paranoid
So why are you telling us this if you think we're not real ?
What's the point in arguing with us if you think we are not real?
I just said the same thing
It's okay, we are here with you. Not dead, not imaginary, real.
You and countless others have thought this same thing. We call you crazy conspiracy theorists. I'm not real though so it's all cool.
-snip-
I know what you mean, I used to think exactly the same thing, it really gets into your head, messes with your perception of life. You wonder if there's any point in doing anything if it even exists.
there is no point in doing anything, that's why it's fun to do things :P
What was that one movie where I think Jim Carrey was in it, and he was stuck in some world where everyone was fake, and at the end he rows out on a boat into the water and then hits a painted wall in the background and figures out that he was in a movie set all along?
What if the Universe is a giant simulator, and it was made by a team of scientists. Not necessarily human, but just beings.

I've had a similar feeling for about a year now. I also don't feel like my own thoughts are my own thoughts, like my mind exists outside my body. I can't really explain it, but before in my life my thoughts were trapped solely in my head, but now it feels like they extend out for about five feet. I get the feeling that my thoughts can be be read by those within this five foot radius. There's this thought seeded deep in the back of my mind, that nothing is real, and nothing that is "fact" is actually "fact". Everything around me, all logic, tells me that this isn't the case. Maybe I'm just a nihilist.
I think, therefore I am
I think, therefore I am
Oh come on! That has been said like 5 times!
We exist, we're just like any other creature on this planet does. If this was a simulation, you'd need a super computer. And by thinking that it was a simulation, the Simulation would probably try to kill you because you know too much, but you don't.
Well to be honest, reading half of the threads on Facepunch isn't the best way of convincing someone that other people are capable of thinking.
Lol I made a thread like this once http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=697740 Just stop being anxious about everything, I made that thread a couple months after I had a bad trip that gave me reoccurring panic attacks over stupid shit, this was one of them.
What if you have a streamed simulation of the universe or have minuscule representation of it?
Okay, let's assume you are the only 'real' person in the universe. Does it matter? If you are in a simulation, and it perfectly imitates reality, and you can't leave it, then it might as well be reality. Get over it.
How do I know that you're not real, and that you posting that on this thread is just some sort of attempt at showing this reality I'm in; is actually real and you're not all just a simulation? Works both ways.
You may want to read Bertrand Russell's "problems of philosophy"
I can tell you that I, for one, am not real.
Well I've always though that the world as we know it is just something running in your mind, and that you're the only person that actually excists. Though, 18 years of trying to make myself fly, hasn't given any possitive results on this.
