The echoes from it hitting the bottom blend together into one continuous sound. Here's an example of a similar situation:
Go to 0:50.

Notice how the echoes get deeper as it goes; It's like that, except really fast so they overlap into one long sound.
This is a good thread. Slow at times, but great anyway. I sometimes check for new posts here and love how many new interesting things i learn and see here every time. Keep up the good work.
I will try to contribute aswell for once.
Not sure if this has been posted here already, but theres this cool effect that you only rarely see on cold winters (i saw it once in my lifetime, but it was cool).
Light pillar optical phenomenon (theres not much documentation about it, but theres at least explanation to why it happens):
The crystals responsible for light pillars usually consist of flat, hexagonal plates, which tend to orient themselves more or less horizontally as they fall through the air.
Their collective surfaces act as a giant mirror, which reflects the light source upwards and/or downwards into a virtual image.
As the crystals are disturbed by turbulence, the angle of their surfaces deviates some degrees from the horizontal orientation, causing the reflection (i.e. the light pillar) to become elongated into a column.

Related to the ice thing this is pretty cool.

If I remember correctly this effect is because vibrations in ice will travel at different speeds depending on their frequency.

Thanks for this, I finally know what this is. This happened in my area last year and it really spooked me.
Louis Thomas Hardin, more popularly known as Moondog, or to New Yorkers as the Viking of Sixth Avenue.

I'm not even sure what to say, just a really interesting guy. He was blind, had an altar to Thor, and was a musician, composer, along with instrument creator.

I was recently introduced to his works, and you can really hear the strangely good fusion of ambient noise alongside jazz, classical, and to an extent native-american music; all of this he drew from encounters with renowned musicians in those fields in his past. He had quite the prolific career, with a discography spanning from 1949 to 1995 while he lived.

I can't think of any music of his to compare it to, it's as unique as it is amazing

Meanwhile, in the Parthian Empire 150 BC...
The Baghdad Battery
The Baghdad Battery or Parthian Battery is a set of three artifacts which were found together: a ceramic pot, a tube of copper, and a rod of iron. It was discovered in modern Khujut Rabu, Iraq, close to the metropolis of Ctesiphon, the capital of the Parthian (150 BC – 223 AD) and Sasanian (224–650 AD) empires, and it is considered to date from either of these periods.
Its origin and purpose remain unclear, and further evidence is needed to explain its purpose. It was hypothesized by some researchers that the object functioned as a galvanic cell, possibly used for electroplating, or some kind of electrotherapy, but there is no electrogilded object known from this period. An alternative explanation is that it functioned as a storage vessel for sacred scrolls.

Those things were probably actually for storing scrolls.

This is so cool! One night a couple months ago I walked outside and saw this to the north and thought it was northern lights or something.. but it vanished within 5 minutes or so. I wasn't totally sure what it was but this makes so much sense now!! Thanks for posting that.

So, like, taser security boxes? :v:
Or was the copper tube just randomly jammed into one, confusing people into thinking it had battery purposes
Oh fuck I just got it
Its official, I'm fucking retarded
So, like, taser security boxes? :v:

I think the idea was that the copper and iron rods made up part of the scroll storage, with the scroll being wrapped around one and stored inside the other, then that being stored inside the clay pot. Someone saw that and thought it looked like an electrolysis tank, which is fair, but the Egyptians, having no apparent application for electricity, probably hadn't figured that out. The materials are just a coincidence.
In the north of France, on the outskirts of Valenciennes, sits a strange sight: an abandoned high-speed train that, not so long ago, was speeding its way through the Channel Tunnel.
The train in question is the Eurostar 373018, one of many Eurostar Class 373 trains that started operating in 1994. Capable of speeds up to 186 mph, the Class 373s were specifically designed to transport passengers between London, Paris, and Brussels via the Channel Tunnel.
Since 2016, however, many 373s have been withdrawn or scrapped, despite just 22 or 23 years in service. Eurostar 373018 is officially in storage, but the word “abandoned” seems more appropriate.
