I'm sure he probably donated his body for it because there are people who have their bodies donated for science after they die.

This is the modern equivalent of religious people spending their whole lives building giant statues and temples.

Only Known Recording Of A Genuine Castrato
This recording of a performance by Alessandro Moreschi is widely considered to be part of the only genuine recording of a castrato.
A castrato is someone who was castrated as a boy in order to prevent the larynx from transforming normally, leaving the individual with a distinctive, high-pitched singing voice.

Interesting to see the same comparison made ('they're scared you'll do what they did to the Native Americans') that a lot of people use nowadays.
Route of the Long March. Consisting of a series of tactical retreats from the KMT Forces, it was considered one of the longest and largest tactical retreats in military history. Breaking through KMT encirclements, the Chinese Red Army managed to evade annihilation by escaping deeper into the countryside and reconsolidate their forces to the north. Only 1/10th of the original Red Army survived the Long March, despite the numerous casualties and attrition sustained by the Red Army, it nevertheless survived to fight against Japanese invaders to the North. Mao Zedong rose to fame and legend for his leadership in the Red Army during this period, with many legends of the exploits of the Red Army originating from this event.
I was always sad that Communism turned out to be nothing but yet more piss and vinegar.
The fantasy of the common people united against injustice and oppression is pretty noble to me, but it's just a fantasy.

Very interesting video about the Babylonian version of the great flood (didn't even know there was a Babylonian version) - pretty interesting and really not religious in any way.

IIRC, almost all ancient cultures had a 'great flood' story. I think even some Amerindian tribes had them as well.
IIRC, almost all ancient cultures had a 'great flood' story. I think even some Amerindian tribes had them as well.
These two seem pretty connected, though.
Well it's the same region. Babylon even ruled over Canaan for a while, it's not surprising they would mesh their stories together.
Yeah I'm not saying it's anything beyond that, just interesting that the Jewish one is seemingly adapted from the Babylonian one.

I know this is meant as a humorous post but I feel like this says quite a lot about design, aesthetic and functionality. He wrote that signature so many times and became more efficient with it each time, but it still retains its form when it's basically just an elongated 4.
Shouldn't they switch off electricity in heavily flooded areas?
Flood lights have their own power boxes IIRC
They're designed to be on when main power is cut...like in a flood
