That's incredibly cruel.
What happened to simply drilling in discipline?
A video of the flight from Westray to Papa Westray in the Orkney Islands, Scotland, UK.
The flight from Westray to Papa Westray is the shortest commercial flight in the world, covering a distance of 1.7 miles (shorter than some airport runways) and lasting around 75 seconds in optimal conditions, with the shortest flight having been recorded as 47 seconds. The flight runs 6 times a week all days except Sunday, using an 8 seat BN-2 Islander flown by the Scottish airline Loganair.
Island life is a strange thing. In some areas of the Outer Hebrides they shut off the internet on Sunday, or at least used to.

They didn't make a port or a bridge? How did they pass this area before airplanes were invented?

Why not have a ferry service? Wouldn't the plane company be making a loss?

Slash and burn farming. You burn a piece of forest and sow crops in the ashes.

This is sort of what nazis did with the death camp Treblinka. They knew the allies were coming so they tore down the entire camp and planted crops (flowers, basically) over it all and gave the land away to the locals.
So instead of burning forests and planting crops in the ashes they burned people and planted crops in the ashes.

In Fair Isle, the power is supplied by a generator that is shut off from 11PM to I think 6AM. It's a completely different way of living and most people aren't cut out for it.
Why not have a ferry service? Wouldn't the plane company be making a loss?
They might do on that flight but Loganair operate all flights to the outer Scottish islands, including Orkney and Shetland. As I live in Shetland I'm entitled to islander discount on flights as they are a lifeline service along with the ferries, and our discount on flights is 50%. Booking in advance also helps, I booked flights to Glasgow in February and it only cost me £100 for a return trip. But without that, it would be double the price, and there's always a large amount of people using the airline.
