well most dry spices get cakey when exposed to moist air, which is why most kitchens have them in plastic shakers with caps. I guess the moist air helps the outside become packed and solid while the inside still stays loose and dry

This isn't really so much as a prototype as it is concept art. Russia is already in the process of delivering the Ratnik soldier system to it's forces. In fact, lets talk about that, it's quite interesting.
Ratnik "Warrior" is a program to modernize the Russian armed forces. It's designed to increase connectivity and combat effectiveness.
Lets start with the new body armour:

This is the 6B45 ballistic vest. It weighs 7.5kg and is designed to fully protect from 7.62x39mm and armour-piercing 7.62x54mmR rounds from an SVD. I really like the added throat protection, a feature found on a lot of Russian vests. There's also an assault variant of the 6B45. It has shoulder and thigh protection added to it, but it increases the weight by another 7.5kg.
Naval troops have a slightly different version of 6B45. It has a built-in lifevest.
The new load-bearing vests aren't really interesting. It's a slight improvement over older versions, but nothing special.
Ratnik isn't just a new vest though.
The system includes a night/thermal vision monocle. I'm not exactly sure if this is standard for every single soldier though:

All soldiers have their own voice and video communication and a GLONASS module.

Every squad leader is equipped with a tablet computer, on which he can see the location of his own soldiers, receive and give orders, and send photos and videos to the headquarters.

Every soldier is also equipped with a phone-sized computer, but I haven't found any pictures of it yet.
The system also includes medical gear, power supply systems, optics and whatever else I missed.
The AK-12 has been selected as standard firearm. At first only the elite troops will be equipped with it, but the AK-74 will be phased out in 2020.
So far 120,000 soldiers have been equipped with the system and it's expected that over 70% of the armed forces will be equipped by 2020.

Things have to be practical. For a concept you can design it whichever way you want, but if you want your design to last tens of years and protect soldiers repeatedly from point blank sniper fire, the looks might not be too important.
But still, the Ratnik armour looks pretty good. Very little straight edges to get caught on too.
That concept might be good enough for FSB, who don't need camouflage and just need some heavy protection to breach any situation, but for a soldier that has to wear it 24/7 it's terrible.

The Ratnik does work, it's still being delivered to the Ground Forces while the Russian Marines received their last sets during the end of 2016 meaning that the equipment is indeed in use unlike French/British/American counterparts where only certain pieces of equipment ended up being used.
They should just go back to the steel bib.
