im interested in the feasibility of this next to magnetic tape. i know a LOT of businesses still use magnetic tape for backing up important data because magnetic tape is incredibly safe and isn't subject to rot like a lot of other formats

Magnetic tape is too subject to rot, even nice stuff. It's temperature and UV sensitive. If you really want to store it long term with no data loss, you have to take special precautions like any other sensitive storage media.

Hell, I have pulled tapes that have been stored perfectly fine since the early 90s and they aren't even readable.

Not sure what tape costs these days, but a rewritable 1.2TB cassette is $130, which is rated for 50 years, 1.1Gbps read speeds.
The Gen 2 disks can read at 2Gbps but they currently only offer a 3.3TB write-once casette for $180

Yes, the line art looks a bit bad, but it'll never be perfect at all times because of the skin stretching, and this was taken the day after we took it, so there was some swelling too. Give it a few more weeks to heal properly

I have an artifact here that is a cassette tape storage system made by then and sold in the early 00's called DTF. Maximum capacity per tape was 200gb and used the same form factor and transport mechanism as Betacam SP but with higher grade tapes.

SDIO is basically the competing non-Sony standard for devices that worked in Secure Digital card slots. Cameras, GPS, bluetooth, wireless cards etc. Remember how people used to tout that an entire encyclopedia set could fit on one CD-ROM? In the Palm/Windows Mobile days you could buy the same encyclopedia set but in SD-ROM format.

Saw a cicada killer for the first time today. Biggest fucking wasp I've ever seen.
