That was back when air travel was a full luxury experience as opposed to "let's shove as many people in this metal tube as possible to make as much money as possible."

Depending on the service/train, traveling by rail can be luxurious as well: [T]http://cdn.guff.com/site_1/media/28000/27844/items/d9cdb63e64c5d6dee5ca6d5c.jpg[/T]
Rail travel is the only form of travel I’ve ever taken where I feel far more relaxed when I arrive than when I depart.

Especially when in a space designed as an altar, celebrating the fantastic scope of technological achievement that was the modernist era. Must've been beautiful.
Rail travel is the only form of travel I’ve ever taken where I feel far more relaxed when I arrive than when I depart.
So much this. Caught my first ever long distance train this year and it was a much more comfortable and relaxing journey than any of the flights I've taken over the past few years. I'm just glad that train travel is a viable option where I live now.

Posted on the Century III Mall Memories page on Facebook:
Just heartbreaking. Santa earlier today on Black Friday, one of the busiest shopping days of the year. There were no lines to be seen. No children laughing or smiling. Not a single person in sight. Behind him, many empty storefronts are visible.
Is that mall particularly important or anything, because it looks like a dying mall so it is kind of thickheaded for them to put some poor guy in a santa suit there anyways. Like look at the windows behind him it looks like a bunch of empty rooms for stores or they all closed for black friday and put their chainlink doors down lol like did they expect people just to go to the mall to look at black windows?
It's not something you see every day -- a video of an elderly Austin woman dancing with a police officer. But that video, captured on dash camera, is capturing the hearts of people in the city and beyond. Austin Police Sgt. Kim Lenz was driving near the city's downtown last week when she noticed Millie Seiver dancing alone in the parking lot of her apartment building. Lenz drove up, turned up her squad car's radio, got out and started dancing with Seiver. The heartwarming moment was "very unexpected," Seiver said. "I don't know, I was just so amazed, I was so shocked, I didn't think it would go any further than that," she said. "Probably a little proud, I suppose, of the fact that it drew attention that I'm able to do what I can do." Those who know Millie said it's no surprise, as she loves to dance and is quite good at it. "Yup, yup, always dancing. At her 90th birthday party, we were out dancing because I love to dance too," Seiver's granddaughter Tammie Maus-Sutphen said. And at 92, Seiver is proving age is just a number and hopes other people will get out and join her. "I'd like to see more people be more active, out walking and things like that," she said.

What do you get when you marry two of Earth's most dramatic natural events, lightning and volcanoes? The answer is a "dirty storm," an infernal melange of lightning, magmatic fire and ash that surpasses even the wildest Hollywood disaster movie effects. If the volcano has enough energy, dozens of bolts -- which blast upwards, rather than downwards -- can spawn in the ash. At at the Volcán Calbuco in Chile, photographer Francisco Negroni captured a stunning example of the phenomenon, winning second prize at this year's Epson Pano awards. A few of the other locations look pretty eerie being all empty but everything still looks sorta intact.

Im surprised it is open still. Once they opened up the walmart up the street from it, it started to go downhill. The first store to go if i can remember correctly was the pet shop. I looked forward to seeing all the animals when i went there as a kid, and then it was just gone, like most of the stores today. There are parts of the ceiling that are actually falling down. This mall used to be important but its pretty irrelevant, defunct and obsolete these days. Over half of the store fronts in the mall are closed or on their way to closing down. Fun fact both of the holographic first edition charizards i got as a kid came from poke packs i had aquired in that mall.
