I find it disturbing that drinking till you puke every weekend is normal now. Listenting to my class mates talk about how they got wasted on the weekend each monday for several years is really annoying. These people are worse than stoners. I am proud to say that I was never drunk once in my life. [sp] mainly because I don't like the taste of alcohol[/sp]
that's a pretty bad generalization. a lot of teenagers that drink (I'd even say most of them) don't "drink till you puke every weekend"
I'm fifteen and have only been very drunk once and that is from skittle vodka, and needless to say I shall not do it again in a hurry, I think maybe it's good that the lesson has been taught, perhaps kids should do it for that reason, however it doesn't always deter them.
that's a pretty bad generalization. a lot of teenagers that drink (I'd even say most of them) don't "drink till you puke every weekend"
Well sorry but I get this feeling from listening to my classmates and reading facebook messages.
21 has always seemed to me too high for a drinking age.
Like somebody said before in this thread, you can be 18 and fight for your country, but if you want to come home go to a bar and drink with your buddies, forget it. It's ridiculous. I think people in Europe can manage how much they drink better than we can due to the lower drinking ages there, this came from a German exchange student.
It really depends on the person. If people can control it and not do stupid things, go for it. However, if people have trouble controlling themselves they really shouldn't do it since it could have some bad consequences. I personally hate alcohol, except for wine. I love wine, and I drink it from time to time. Been drinking wine since the age of 15 IIRC and no harm has been done. I've also seen people drink a lot to parties and get completely smashed, but they still do fine at schools. People who can moderate themselves can drink, people who can't shouldn't.
Moderation is the key, I really started drinking at the age of 15. Not to much but sometimes a beer and I was first drunk at the age of 15. I am fine now and never had a problem.
In the faroes a lot of underage drinking, but in my own opinion I think the country has no chance of stopping such thing. I think it's up to the underaged if he/she wants to drink. And I wouldn't mind him/her doing it or not. As of Junkers post, I've seen same with that reaction, who ended badly later. It's the same with a cigaret(t) - You smoke one, and think the same way; it wasn't that bad, Im not in need of one more. Later on, you try one again, and same goes until you once feel that you need more.
It all depends if you can limit yourself, and how acceptable it is in your community. Rural areas here in Ohio are more accepting of underage drinking because of how easy it is, but in the urban areas where i live it doesn't really become acceptable until your junior year of highschool.
Just don't repress kids, it always backfires. Let them explore, it's better they learn now and know for the future. If they get out of control they probably would do the same later in life either way.
This is invalid for argumentation. If you think you are mature enough, and if you think you're mentally capable of handling the responsibility of drinking alcohol than I think you can drink it. I agree that kids who are dumbasses, and do it to please their peers is fucking stupid, but if you make that choice for yourself and yourself only than it is an ok sentiment. In the United States the drinking age of 21 is very much to old. I think that the age should be lowered to 17-18 which seems legally sound to me. Although many would argue wrong it's like changing from Imperial to Metric people that have used the same system for generations would go "Fuck you go away im using the same thing". So manly the opponents to many things that are good are the old folk like your parents, and grandparents, and other elderly or just middle-aged people. TL;DR - Drinking should be based on maturity level, the age should be lowered to 17-18, people who would oppose that would be people who are old and are to set in there ideal america.

Speaking of underaged drinking, my younger sister had a lot of friends over earlier (all very hush-hush, parents are away for the night) and now there's chunks of puke all over the upstairs restroom. Teens are going to do stupid things, yeah, but they're already doing stupid things and it's illegal. I'm for 18+, honestly, and I don't really see how making it illegal helps kids at all. If you want another point, adults do stupid things on alcohol, and it's legal for them. Actually, I have no idea where I'm going with this. I just think that it's a stupid thing to expect kids not to do something just because you told them not to.
tbh I am usually fairly moderate in my drinking, and besides which it takes quite a lot to get me drunk (which is a disadvantage because I can easily spend over £25 on a night out and still only be goddamn tipsy) I do enjoy getting pretty slaughtered once in a while, a lot of non-drinkers/lighter drinkers don't realise that being drunk doesn't nessecarily mean blacking out - blackout drunkeness is a whole different kettle of fish to just being pretty blathered.
As probably mentioned a thousand times , the problem isn't wether you like drinking or think you can handle it. It's whether you are mature enough to understand the consequences of what you do when you are drunk.

Okay, Not answering your poll because the answers are shit, But imo it's the drinking age that causes problems, Look at France, No drinking age that I know of but less drinking problems. Just my opinion
The way someone handles alcohol is entirely defined by the person. Some adults handle drinking a lot worse than a 13 year old...
I'm underage and have had a few drinks here and there. I know the risks, I know the dangers, I know the possible consequences. I always do my own research before I try something that is potentially dangerous.
if you get really drunk alway sremember that you are doing it for the good of those laughing at yr antics
I was 14 when I first started drinking, aslong as you take it slow and don't push your limit it's fine.
I was just 15 when I started drinking and I haven't really encountered any problems. The legal age here is 18, 21 is just a ridiculous age for it to be legal. I think countries like Germany have it right in that the legal age for undistilled alcohol (beer, wine, etc.) is 16 and the legal age for distilled is 18. [editline]12th March 2012[/editline] Just gotta make sure when you're getting into drinking that the people you're with aren't idiots.
It is illegal, no discussion necessary.
It is illegal, no discussion necessary.
oh no! better do what the government decides lest i be struck down by the long arm of the law
It is illegal, no discussion necessary.
because laws NEVER change, right that's why we still have slavery
As long as it isn't done constantly, underage drinking isn't terrible.
It is illegal, no discussion necessary.
that's a terrible argument you're wrong
how bad underage drinking is really depends on who you are and who you hang out with. Sure, I drank a little, but I was never drunk, and I didn't even do it on a monthly basis. On the other hand, a kid I knew did it and now he's a wanna-be "s3ri0us GaNgStEr" :v: Over-all, it's not bad for you if you're not an idiot to begin with.
It is illegal, no discussion necessary.
You see this kind of posting? Don't do it. It contributes nothing to the discussion, attempts to bring any ongoing discussion to a halt, and follows ridiculous circular logic ("it's illegal because it's bad, and it's bad because it's illegal"). Any posts from this point like this one will be met with a ban.
It is illegal, no discussion necessary.
Worst argument I've seen on this forum for a while. Ever heard of circular logic?
