• Crysis: Revisiting a PC Classic

I remember watching the tech videos of Cryengine 2 before this game was released and just being outright amazed by the graphics. I miss those days :crying:
Now that my pc is capable of playing Crysis it's quite a fun game.
If Cryengine got Rockstar's euphoria physics, it should be required by law that every game be developed on the resulting engine
And DMM. DMM + Rockstar's Euphoria + Cryengine 3 = Holy shit
Am I the only one who thought that the aliens were much more fun to fight in Warhead, it felt like they changed the AI to make them do more then just sit on the same place and fire at you.
Yeah. I think Crytek really dropped the ball on this one. I loved it because it played so well, but had they seriously focused on some more areas this game would have been praised until eternity. Imagine this game, but with a story on par with the Half-Life series. That being said I had another idea for a game. Crysis: Vietnam. Imagine the Crysis engine and shooting mechanics in a Vietnam setting, no aliens, squad control (modders have this down pretty well, imagine if Crytek actually did it), huge open levels, etc.
That would be awesome, but only if it had the nanosuit or something comparable. Anyone want a Crysis 2 MP beta key for 360?
Anyone want a Crysis 2 MP beta key for 360?
i have one too, did you get a key somewhere? i want to give mine away too
I really liked Crysis, I never understood where all the hate towards it stemmed from.
I really liked Crysis, I never understood where all the hate towards it stemmed from.
Jealousy, stereotyping(good graphics=bad gameplay) and band-wagoning. Oh, and of course those god damn aliens.
I really liked Crysis, I never understood where all the hate towards it stemmed from.
Over-hype in combination with evident let-downs in some specific game aspects primarily I would say. I mean, my local Gamestop had a two massive cardboard signs flanking its entrance advertising the arrival of Crysis almighty back in the day. All the advertising, tech demos and teasers had a majority thinking Crysis would be the hands-down best game ever released. Silly ofcourse, but one really wants to believe.
Just beat warhead... WAY TO SHORT OMFG!
And DMM. DMM + Rockstar's Euphoria + Cryengine 3 = Holy shit
Doesn't cryengine already have DMM? Or is that unreal?
Doesn't cryengine already have DMM? Or is that unreal?
I don't think crysis has it. All you can do is chop trees which is basically like chopping a straight line up in bits. You can only do it horizontally. But I also don't think unreal has it either cause I never noticed that in the tech demos and such.
Doesn't cryengine already have DMM? Or is that unreal?
No, but Cryengine 2 does support procedural destruction, but it's fairly limited in scope- pretty much only the trees and the rock spikes in the ship can be destroyed. Cryengine 3, however, will implement procedural destruction in a much better way. UT3 supports some fancy PhysX bits, but not DMM itself.
No, but Cryengine 2 does support procedural destruction, but it's fairly limited in scope- pretty much only the trees and the rock spikes in the ship can be destroyed.
If you set Physics to high, you can also blow/punch up buildnings and other structure ; )
If you set Physics to high, you can also blow/punch up buildnings and other structure ; )
It's more like just dislocating the building parts from one another. The components of those houses (metal sheets, wood panels, struts) are solid, you can't for instance crack a wall open the same way you can cut a log into chunks.
Too bad crysis 2 will be consolified.
Too bad crysis 2 will be consolified.
We'll see about that
Crysis isn't nearly a classic, it's a benchmark and tech demo
Too bad crysis 2 will be consolified.
Only the console versions.
Only the console versions.
It's incredibly easy to tell if a game was designed around being played on a console, then ported for PC support (which many suspects is the case with Crysis 2). Most of the time the PC version will be shitty.

Plus, I don't see real time global illumination working on a console, do you?
EVERYONE QUICK IMAGINE THESE GRAPHICS ON HALF-LIFE 2 /caps But seriously. Guys try out the back to the future car mod.
Reinstalled Crysis, Far Cry 2 and Battlefield 2 last night :) Good times...
Most of the time the PC version will be shitty.
The best examples of that are Alpha Protocol and GTA IV.
I've always had my suspicions about you. Now it's official. You're a fucking idiot.
Oh ok I'll go kill myself because some random person on facepunch has called me an idiot because Crysis was shit.
Never had a problem with GTA IV, and Alpha Protocol just outright sucked. I do have a very solid PC so maybe that's why I haven't been experiencing poor performance in games that are supposedly "bad ports".
Since people like you raged about how bad their PCs sucked and couldnt run it on highest settings.
I never raged about this game. It's just that it doesn't even qualify for a classic. If the only thing a game has going for it is its graphics, then it cannot qualify for classic status. Sorry.
Never had a problem with GTA IV, and Alpha Protocol just outright sucked. I do have a very solid PC so maybe that's why I haven't been experiencing poor performance in games that are supposedly "bad ports".
There's a lot more to the shittyness of ported games than the performance. Everything from GUI and menu systems through game balancing to weapons and vehicles behavior needs to be handled differently between console and PC games. This goes beyond the technical differences between personal computers and gaming consoles; the way games are experienced differs fundamentally.

I accidentally outrun the rendering engine in GTA IV pretty much everytime I play it. That happens to me in every 3d GTA game.
Crysis isn't that old, not sure why it is called "a classic" already
