• Guy with dog films police, they arrest him and shoot his dog for barking.

He could have tied the dog's leash to the steering wheel or something. I mean at the worst the cops would have had to call animal control to remove the dog from the vehicle. In the owner's position I could have made the same mistake of putting the dog in a place where he was still a threat to the officers so this is me playing Captain Hindsight here.
There's like 4 police there and one dog. Shooting it wasn't the right thing to do.
Way to dodge the question... How do you expect them to safely subdue the obviously aggressive dog?
The bottom line, I think, with how they handled the dog is that if the police have to kill your pet, they're just gonna do it. It's unfortunate, but you gotta admit, that guy was being an idiot. Obviously there is something pretty crazy going on there and he just had to be head-strong and start up a situation by walking by and filming. Also, he may have been considered an assailant of what was going on, and that might be why they arrested him as well. We just don't have enough information to understand all the details of what's going on there.
Also whats up with the mentality of people seeing a situation going on somewhere and the first instinct they have is to stop whatever they are doing to film/watch such situation,it'll probably be on the news later on there is no need to waste time and watch.
There's like 4 police there and one dog. Shooting it wasn't the right thing to do.
Shooting it is the only thing you can do. This isn't a harmless and passive breed of dog. A rott can easily tear a grown man up. Even if the dog was "detained", it showed aggression. Literally every metropolitan animal control puts aggressive animals to sleep.
I saw a few other videos where bystanders said he seemed to be harassing the officers. I mean it sucks that his dog got killed in this but cmon, if this man owned a poodle I doubt it would of escalated to this. I bet in hindsight he regrets more about being obnoxious during a standoff because this easily could of been avoided.
this thread is full of "wow cops always powertrip omg pigs..."
This is one of the most fucked things I've seen in a long time. I always thought the whole "The police is so abusive and trigger happy in America" deal was only true in rare cases, but this is just...
Oh for fucks sake, the guy was black so statistically speaking he's far more likely to be aggresive, start a fight etc. He has a big scary fucking dog that jumps out of the car and runs at the cops, it didn't "just bark at them." For fucks sake, you people are out of your minds.
wow good way to make a point by stereotyping

If you ask me, I think they knew they would have to shoot the dog in order to arrest the guy. Even if it had stayed in the car, a handler would have needed to collect it. The man failed to train his dog to heel at command, this might be due to the area he lives in, perhaps the dog was a means of protection?
I don't think the dog was trained to attack people. If it was, it would instantly have gone for one of the officers.
always make me goddamn angry to watch these kind of videos police abusing their power , makes me more mad that you cant do anything about it
always make me goddamn angry to watch these kind of videos police abusing their power , makes me more mad that you cant do anything about it
At first when I watched the video I felt the same. Then I started to think about the situation, and well, I couldn't see how it would've turned out any other way. If a big Rottweiler is running towards you, you have to act fast. What pisses me off the most is that he just left the dog there to suffer, if you shoot 4 rounds at an animal, I doubt it was to keep it alive. If only they had tazers or something like that, for situations like this.
While it might have been a dangerous situation and the dog was barking and showing agression , it WAS NOT a situation where lethal force was appropriate.
There wasn't a lot of alternatives though. The only efficient way of dealing with situations like these is shooting it. But four shots? Unnecessary. He should have fired a shot to scare it off, and if that didn't work, shot it somewhere non-lethal if possible.

They might survive, but when you open fire on someone or something there's a very good chance of it dying.
Sorry buddy, but you cant shoot anyone or anything non-lethally. Either limbs or on the rear end of the dog.
I was thinking of somewhere on the dog where it wouldn't have such a huge impact compared to where it was shot.
You can easily miss and shoot it somewhere which will kill it, always assume what you are poitning your gun at will die if it fires.
Yeah, I know. What I was trying to say was that he should at least tried to do it without injuring the dog beyond repair.
Kind of a misleading title, they didn't shoot the dog for barking and actually showed some restraint before shooting it. They waited until the dog jumped up to bite the officer's hand
Kind of a misleading title
I tried editing it but Facepunch is made in a way so you can't edit thread titles after posting them for some reason.
I don't think the dog was trained to attack people. Heh I guess the police officers who keep shooting niko after he's dead in gta 4 still applies.
Enough time to know that one bullet is enough.
Let's go over this again Officers shoot to stop the threat. Not to kill or wound. They shoot until it is no longer a threat.
America; Where police officers carry rifles and will shoot your dog in front of you.
America; Where police officers carry rifles and will shoot your dog in front of you.
except they shot the dog with a handgun ?????????
except they shot the dog with a handgun ?????????
Do the semantics really matter that much to you. Sad.
