[QUOTE=AugustBurnsRed;39638686]The reason being that newcomers (or people making alts) would only allowed to post in the GMod support section and not the rest of the forum for that first week, it would be Shitpost Central Station. Maybe it wouldn't need more mods, but the mods would have to pay extra special attention to it.[/QUOTE] Oh right I misread what you were saying before. But still seeing as it'd just be on subforum to keep an eye on we could easily manage that without adding more mods.
[QUOTE=EnlightenDead;39638636]besides you ofcourse[/QUOTE] EVERYONE. ;)
Okay we could make it invite only but you get a free invite if you have gmod on your steam account (and its verified to be your account somehow). People without invites can post in a forum that only mods/goldmembers/themselves can see and if a gold member feels nice they can give a guy an invite This doesn't seem like it would stop the gmod support thing at all plus there's no stupid waiting around plus its stupid easy to implement (with maybe the exception of verifying if a user owns gmod or not, that would be the hard part), plus it pretty much stops spam bots/troll alts from coming in and it's easy enough to perma a gold member who invites one for kicks (gotta have some way to track who invited that bot though. I don't think this should be too hard, right?)
[QUOTE=cdlink14;39630376]Each vote earns you a point, points can be redeemed on boostar's (except gold membership). It adds a sense of amusement and reward because then we can use those points on changing our own titles/usernames OR changing others.[/QUOTE] Then people will just vote willy nilly to get the points?
facepunch has now become a last man standing game, good luck ladies and gentlemen
[QUOTE=postal;39638058]we were fine beforehand.[/QUOTE] did anyone tell garry this
honestly I think the steam idea works best, all the others seem like time wasters (why waste time doing nothing for a week?), and spambots can't make steam accounts[I][SUP][citation needed][/SUP][/I]
So... What about old accounts regarding the Steam idea? Do we just transfer our forum stats over, link them up or what?
[QUOTE=ScottyWired;39641047]So... What about old accounts regarding the Steam idea? Do we just transfer our forum stats over, link them up or what?[/QUOTE] You'd link them just like we did on garrysmod.org. Old accounts are most likely safe anyways.
If the Steam thing is taken into consideration; Please, please, please dont force it to be public or at least let the prior members not force to add. I've got some crazy guy online constantly tracking me down all over the internet. I dont want him to find me.
Demonoid style registration. Every member gets a few codes to invite people. If the people they invite are idiots, the original person, along with the invited, get reprimanded/banned for a while. This rule could be relaxed for people after a few months, considering you cannot anticipate how people will act after a while.
Steam login seems the only plausibly way. I have no idea if it's possible with the Steam API, but maybe filter for steam accounts older than a week? Would cut down on bot accounts. Or maybe have an emergency help forum for accounts <1 week old, then grant full access after this time period. *shrugs* [editline]19th February 2013[/editline] [QUOTE=Mad Chatter;39641134]If the people they invite are idiots, the original person, along with the invited, get reprimanded/banned for a while. [/QUOTE] There is already a system to connect with steam, which can also check what games it has and so on, which would make it possible to require at least one purchased game on that account. In worst case scenario the spergs would be spending money to register, and less people would make alts the instant they get temp-banned.
[QUOTE=Brandy92;39641190] Last time I checked this wasn't North Korea; guilty by association. :v:[/QUOTE] this helps prevent people from just inviting shitposters.
[QUOTE=Brandy92;39641190]Last time I checked this wasn't North Korea; guilty by association. :v:[/QUOTE] Since you seem so keen on throwing around dumb ratings, would you mind explaining what you dislike about my proposed system?
Login based on your steam account seems like a great idea.
[QUOTE=Mad Chatter;39641468]Since you seem so keen on throwing around dumb ratings, would you mind explaining what you dislike about my proposed system?[/QUOTE] I told you. [IMG]http://cdn-img.easyicon.cn/png/5267/526790.gif[/IMG]
why do you guys have to over complicate this with overly grandiose systems it shouldn't be this hard
We should become Something Awful.
[QUOTE=download;39631905]We could have a forum you can access straight away, for gmod related questions, and another for introducing yourself and getting full privileges[/QUOTE] This could work. Although keep the rest of the forum accessible, but as read-only. Should be a decent compromise.
Please, please, please no steam login, oh god no it is so bad. How about having to give garry your picture with timestamp, or your ID with timestamp :v. (Data collection, hihihi) Or just create OIFY of the freshmen.
[QUOTE=Amic;39642450]Please, please, please no steam login, oh god no it is so bad.[/QUOTE] Explain.
Maybe we should just get rid of Fast threads and it's filth?
I think the best way would be to have the main GMod sections freely available with a Steam account, even if there are no games on it. Even future buyers could still post, and the other sections are about the FP community anyway. Maybe make it invite only and add a forum where people can post a plea to the public for an invite. Of course this won't stop everyone from inviting shitheads, but if we wanna eliminate the chance of that we need to also alienate other people.
I'm going to chime in with an idea that I had while reading this thread. It's a combination of various ideas without making legit people get hurt while trying to stop spammers. When you sign up, you have to make 100 posts to be a normal member. You have no access to bbcode and your post character length is limited to something like 200 characters.
Send all new users to the oify for a week.
[QUOTE=J!NX;39631778]What a horrible idea[/QUOTE] I don't know about you, but one of the largest and most well known forums in the internet, Forocoches (Pretty much a Spanish SA) use an invite only system and there's absolutely no shitposting.
Having to sign in with steam every time would be inconvenient for using public computers or mobile. Perhaps just sign in with it once on registration to verify?
Make it so that when registering you go through a really really long rules and regulations page. But instead of scrolling down instantly just to tick the I agree box, you have to sit through a 2 hour long Text-to-Speech of the R&R before the agree box ticks itself.
