I remember someone getting banned for saying "Stick it in her wardrobe."
Sorry I was so hard on you. -50 smartness
A problem is that many people want to create accounts just to request Gmod support, and restricting registration would make it harder for these people to get help.
"Hey I'm the ideas guy can you help me make this video game?" "How do I fly" "How do I install addons" "Join my server plz" "Did you open your ports" "FUCK YOU CUNT KILL YOURSELF YOU NIGGER" "(User was banned for this post ("FUCK YOU CUNT KILL YOURSELF YOU NIGGER" - garry))"
How about making threads in the video section restricted to 100 posts or so? You can still post in it, just not create new threads.
How about making threads in the video section restricted to 100 posts or so? You can still post in it, just not create new threads.
That subforum isn't the only one having problems.
Can't believe some people are actually suggesting we add reputation (karma) like on other shitty vBulletin forums. I do like the sound of re-adding smartness though or having a delayed posting period.
Everyone should be "banned" on registration. Then depending on what they write in RC they get unbanned. Spambots? Gone. People joining to advertise? Gone. Etc...
possibly a "sign in with steam" sort of thing, like garrysmod.org used to have?
Everyone should be "banned" on registration. Then depending on what they write in RC they get unbanned. Spambots? Gone. People joining to advertise? Gone. Etc...
You'd need a sticky explaining though or no-one would get it.
Everyone should be "banned" on registration. Then depending on what they write in RC they get unbanned. Spambots? Gone. People joining to advertise? Gone. Etc...
This seems completely unnecessary
Ban on registration until they have got an A) Tattoo of garry on their butt B) a picture of themselves wearing a silly hat or C) Them Killing themselves. Obviously you don't unban after - But you give them hope.
Everyone should be "banned" on registration. Then depending on what they write in RC they get unbanned. Spambots? Gone. People joining to advertise? Gone. Etc...
Would require a lot more RC mods then.
I'm in support of the whole required lurking idea. There was another forum for a fanbase, and when I joined it gave me the ability to post in a specific section only until I was at 12 posts. From then on, I could reply in the other sections of the forums and create my own threads. -snipped- I'm told card check doesn't work.
We could do a Hunger Games style thing where each week, the combined batch of new people registering have to fight to the death to get membership.
IMO the best suggestion so far is linking your facepunch account with your steam account. Of course you can make a new steam account but I doubt the majority of shitposters are going to go that far, it should at least reduce the amount.
If having a Steam account becomes a requirement to register an account, another condition should be having at least 1 non free to play game. Otherwise it's pointless as anyone could just make a Steam account and get Team Fortress 2 or *F2P MMO that they potentially are selling gold for here*. It would be like the bad old days when GMod pirates were asking for help and linking their accounts that only had the R.U.S.E demo.
possibly a "sign in with steam" sort of thing, like garrysmod.org used to have?
I like this idea a lot. Or, you could have the one week thing, and they can buy gold for immediate access to the forum, instead of waiting a week
Not everybody has a steam account, and not everybody is able to buy things online.
Not everybody has a steam account, and not everybody is able to buy things online.
What? Chances are if you want to make an account here you will have steam, and in most cases Gmod. After all that is was this forum was originally about.

If anyone was still thinking about the pay-to-join idea, why not just make it so that you don't really pay anything, but a simple card check is required to validate it's an actual card? That way, no one is really pressured to pay for anything, but we still ensure each registration is completed by someone unique.
card check is a pretty terrible idea really
What? Chances are if you want to make an account here you will have steam, and in most cases Gmod. A steam-required sign-in system would be fine, as long as it had to check for at least 1 transaction on the account (i.e, game, hats, dlc, gift, etc.)
card check is a pretty terrible idea really
Never heard of a forum that checks the validity of a card in order to sign up to post.
Just bring back smartness and have a system so that users less than 3-4 days old can't post links, images, etc.
who the fuck would give garry their personal details
Never heard of a forum that checks the validity of a card in order to sign up to post.
Forums that steal your info thats what I sure as fuck AM NOT giving any info just to join any damn forums like that person also said, but make a "Newbie" area totally dedicated to being really tight in rules and let everyone post in it. Newbie forums - subsections Gmod, GD, videos. All it needs.
Wouldn't be too hard to just stockpile alts and bring them out when you want to troll. I can imagine some retard in LMAO pics with ten backup accounts.
Then go a bit further than just banning single accounts.
a forum i know of has it simple, there's a new members section with new members threads. they can post questions, work they've done stuff like that. if they prove to be a good poster, they get approved and get a full account. people can ask questions about gmod, stick a captcha in there for good measure, and they can show they give a shit about community or whatnot.

It's like porn sites that require cards to "verify your age." It's probably a scam and I can get the same content somewhere else.
I remember someone getting banned for saying "Stick it in her wardrobe."
I also remember something like "you should make some additions to the bunker"
You get a chance to post anything every week if youre a new member. If your post reaches 20x Funnies, youre welcome to stay. Because thats how facepunch works, right?
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
