how did mastodon sell out [editline]15th February 2011[/editline] then again the whole concept of "selling out" is very arguable
Selling out in my opinion is signing to a major record label, (they moved from Relapse to Warner) Warner is a major record label and pays bands big money. That in my opinion is selling out, but obviously by the thread you mean bands that just make music for the money and not for themselves. So I get what you mean.
i'm so indie i only listen 2 bands w/ 10 listeners on last.fm

That's getting signed. [editline]15th February 2011[/editline] I can't see how you could even misconstrue that as selling out, that's just being successful. Truth be told it pisses me off that it's still very much maligned in the music industry for bands to make money. As soon as bands start talking payment for gigs or putting a fair price on merch they're automatically money grabbing cunts (this is a general complaint not just directed at you Noni). At the end of the day in 90% of cases a band is someone's job, it's only fair they grt a decent wage for it, yet people seem to hate success in music because somehow it cheapens their message or whatever bullshit
Green day Before After AFI actually opened for them last time I saw them Kinda funny
>Both Green Day songs are from after they sold out and signed to a major record label. dohoho
Dull and overplayed, undeserving of the legacy it has considering the albums following after it which get shit on every day of the week.
Bleeding me, Outlaw Torn, Cure, Thorn Within, Fuel, Attitude, Fixxxer, Where the wild things are, Bad Seed, are all awesome songs. It's almost like Fixxxer and WTWTA don't exist to most Metallica fans though [editline]15th February 2011[/editline] Oh, and I really like Unforgiven II as well.
Agreed. I love Load and Reload but no one seems to give them the time of day
Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person that actually likes every Metallica album (although I haven't listened to Garage Inc.). I'd really like for them to keep writing Load-esque stuff though. Although it's still enjoyable, Death Magnetic just sounds kinda tired.

Low Man's Lyric, Mama Said, Unforgiven II, Bleeding Me, Where the Wild Things Are and (maybe, it's better on S&M) Memory Remains are all good too
I hate the term "selling out". Most of the time the people throwing it around are full of shit. They just don't like the fact that a band they like is playing something that doesn't fit their tastes. Metallica changing their style isn't selling out, it's them expanding their horizons. Also, Vedicardi; FUCK YOU, that is all.
Why has no one said The Who

I like how OP took the worst song of Sing the Sorrow album, it actually has a few good songs.
Low Man's Lyric, Mama Said, Unforgiven II, Bleeding Me, Where the Wild Things Are and (maybe, it's better on S&M) Memory Remains are all good too
Oh yeah, I forgot Low Man's Lyric.
We need a running definition of "selling out" if we are going to have this kind of thread. Is it: A) The band stopped doing what they wanted to do and did what they were told to do by a large record label in order to make money or B) The band just got successful and ya'll don't like the fact that you have to share your favorite band with fans of Nickleback
Sonic Syndicate. That's the only band I actually have an opinion about in this subject. Then: Eden Fire. Awesome Melodeath. Now: We Rule the Night. I can only describe it as p12-core.
Brokencyde, they are so fucking boring now and their music after they got big is just... soulless. The underground DIY crunkcore scene is much better. :smug:
p12-core?
My own word to describe core music that you'd find 12 year old douchebags in Sweden listening to.
My own word to describe core music that you'd find 12 year old douchebags in Sweden listening to.
I still like Sonic Syndicate :smith:
I still like Sonic Syndicate :smith:
I like Eden Fire and (to some extent) Only Inhuman, but not their current music.
