Rice doesn't literally make them explode, but it swells in their stomach, blocking it off, which kills them.
Get a pack of yogurt, and raisins. One week where she is away, dump the yogurt on her windows/roof with the raisins on it.
Wait 'till she gets back.
Also, if she leaves her car you could crudely paint white spots on it.
