OK where do I get one of these.
can you click in the trackpads like regular analogue sticks?
Yes. You can also segment each trackpad so that different areas correspond to different actions.
Maybe it's just me, but i fail to see how else should this work as a mouse replacement in games other than like a laptop trackpad.
Because laptop trackpads are designed for your fingers and not your thumbs; they are also usually shit and extremely poor quality. Valve isn't taking some company in China that produces trackpads for shitty HP laptops; these would be custom designed for the controller and because of that would presumably be far better than a laptop trackpad. They do also have haptic feedback.
B-but g-guys!! Listen! It looks shitty, therefore it must be shitty!!! - Shark Bones 2013
Is that a citation I see on Papers, Please? Edit: Looking pretty good, it looks a lot better for RTS games.
Its more like an alternative rather than a replacement.
looks like you'd still get destroyed trying to play css or something like that with this thing, but it looks surprisingly great for strategy games
I want to them play fighting games on it
Playing Civ on that thing would be awesome.
I want to them play fighting games on it
Why? That's not what it's for.
Those seemed like mostly mouse-heavy games, so I'm wondering how it'll hold up to something like DOTA where you need a minimum of 4 spell hotkeys and 6 inventory keys and the pacing is too fast for a radial menu. But I guess they wanted to re-emphasize the precision advantage of their trackpads. Which is completely understandable, considering they're the parts that got the most attention by pretty much everyone.
That is really impressive, I didn't expect that kind of accuracy.
Did anyone else know that Jeff Bellinghausen worked on sixsense?
Still don't care about the Steambox, but I'll sure as hell take that controller for my PC gaming efforts.
I want to see this playing racing games and flight sims.
looks like you'd still get destroyed trying to play css or something like that with this thing, but it looks surprisingly great for strategy games
I feel like the player was just trying to show how the controller works. You know there'll be people who get extremely good with it.

Should have demoed it on Half Life 3 without even acknowledging it.. or a new ip.
I SO wanna use this with my brother in Portal 2 splitscreen alongside my X360 controller.
That looks awful. All the comfort of playing an FPS with a laptop trackpad, no thanks.
it looks ok but the CS:GO part really showed that it's just not going to be a rival for KB+M in FPS games, especially one like CS if he was playing against players in that demo he would've been instantly killed [editline]11th October 2013[/editline] also i am now thinking how awesome it would be to play a game like Civ 5 from your couch just with voice controls
I'm pretty much sold. I knew Valve would pull it off if they got everything just so, and all I wanted was a demo of some kind. And here it is.
The only problem I can see is that with a mouse I can move the cursor from one side of the screen to the other in one movement without having to to lift it up but with this I would need to swipe across a couple of times with my thumb.
In the Civ part you can see that when he swipes his thumb quickly across the pad the cursor goes the complete length of the screen
That looks awful. All the comfort of playing an FPS with a laptop trackpad, no thanks.
Yeah, because as you can tell the controller is just like having a square trackpad in the bottom-center of a laptop keyboard. This is nothing like a laptop trackpad other the the fact that you drag your fingers across it. You would use it just like you would use the joysticks on conventional controllers: To move left you drag your finger to the left, to stop moving left you drag your finger to the center, just like a joystick. Amazing! Its just like a laptop trackpad though right?
also i am now thinking how awesome it would be to play a game like Civ 5 from your couch just with voice controls
It could work for building and diplomacy, but ordering units would be hell. "Worker move up. A little more. One more tile. Okay, now go right three tiles and build a mine."
It seems like that's a great alternative to a controller, although still inferior to a mouse and keyboard.
Its just like a laptop trackpad though right?
Okay, it's a circular laptop trackpad.
I want one.
Okay, it's a circular laptop trackpad.
Its not a laptop trackpad at all. [editline]11th October 2013[/editline] Did yo even watch the video?
I feel this would be horrible for someone like myself who has really unsteady hands and fingers.
