Skate shoes close to perfect for parkour?
I recommend Feiyues.

Anyway, July was Barefoot Training Month in Melbourne for traceurs. I was gonna join in but I've got Primary Raynaud's Phenomenon and it's winter so I really can't. Hopefully I'll get around to doing some barefoot training in summer.
I don't run barefoot but I run by hitting my toes first, I find it faster and it helps keep momentum. Though I love this concept and will definately try it, but would you get the same out of running with socks on?
Toes? You should be using the ball of your foot.
We didn't evolve with nails and broken glass either.
when i was little i always went around barefoot, because of it i developed a weird way of running for awhile. I would run tip toe, i did for years.

Tip toe? I'm curious to know how you could've actually run on your toes.
No socks?
Because I want feces on my feet. Do you have ANY IDEA HOW MUCH FECES??
SO MUCH FECES MAN.
I'll have to pass. I'm in a rural area. Tons of stickers and prickly pears. :| I went hiking the other day in flip flops and came home with my entire left foot covered in cactus spines. I'll stick to shoes.
I might do it, walking barefoot for longer distances (~1/4-3 miles) than I do now may help with the placement of pressure on my right foot due to a defective right femur.
Why don't people just wear thin, protective shoes, like sandals, and change how they run to the way mentioned in the op?

Sandals are probably the worst things to wear if you're trying to improve your running technique.
Your feet become unsightly and stink. Not to mention dirty.
Those shoes are expensive to the point I cannot justify, are unfashonable and are quite simply, daft looking. Maybe in 5-15 years when the design is refined and they are socially acceptable might I buy a pair, but for the immediate future they are impractical.
I'd be all for barefeeting around my day-to-day if it weren't for these facts.

Shoes make your feet stink more than going barefoot does.
And who gives a shit about social acceptability?

Normal people

Meaning anyone that isn't a basement dweller

I think if someone is going out running they're not a basement dweller.
This is actually a pretty cool idea, I may try to do this.
You asked who gave a shit about social acceptability
Hopefully I don't kill myself on glass and such.
FUUUU- Missed auto-merge. :silent:
You asked who gave a shit about social acceptability
And I replied.
You'll find that people who aren't basement dwellers are less insecure about themselves and will be more willing to break societal norms.

A minimal skate shoe is almost identical when done up properly anyway, but it offers some padding to stop you from hurting the sides of your foot.

Oh no, I'm a basement dweller. What will I do without these "socially acceptable" restrictions??
barefoot challenge is like taking candy from a baby for australians.
I live in a metropolis, where 90% of surface is concrete or asphalt, with the rest 10% being grass with shit density of 3 dog shits per square meter. I live in a flat, and my doctor forbid me from walking barefoot there, as I have had flat foot.
[editline]09:44AM[/editline]
So really, no chance.
My feet are fine in my shoes and 5 pairs of socks.
But the other extreme I practice is, that I wear sandals 300 days a year, even if it rains, or in temperatures under zero.
About the OP: It won't be that painful if you're obese. I have tried this before, I have BMI of 34+ and did some running barefoot. It's only painful if you land wrongly.
I'm always barefoot.
walking barefoot is so refreshing, even if it gets painful at times. i kinda enjoy it :3:

Hey I already land on the balls of my feet because its quieter. Cool that it helps your feet too.
Look at these

yea... where I live there's broken glass, discarded needles and god knows what else all over the floor. And there is shit tonnes of gravel everywhere. I doubt I'll be trying this unless somehow callouses alone can stop sharp pointed objects that well
