The Machine launches its attack. It extends two arms, and latches onto the ships. The small, flexible claw-tendrils begin drilling through the incapacitated ships, looping through several ends.
A dozen particle vents extend, and the machine shoots multiple piercing energy beams at the ships.

Pictureless: The mining vessels are just returning with their load of materials. The warp vehicle is almost done, it just needs to have weapons put on it and the Warp Module engaged. The scientists working with the Space-Time Research Project as it is now called are making slow progress, but progress all the same. People working with the Warp Module have discovered a way to send information too, and are testing that out. If this near-instant communication works, it would be amazing for everyone in the galaxy. IF there are any.

The cruiser, lightly damaged fires its plasma beam straight into the vents and does a lot of damage to the inside of the unknown alien machine. The recon ship however is severly damaged and fires off a volley of missiles. The other recon ship speeds up and also fires a volley of APHE missiles.

Oh, I agree with you, I was just stating what he probably wanted it to be.
The mining ships have successfully made it back, and are unloading. The supplies will go towards a large mining vehicle with a Warp Module, for deep-space mining. The Warp ship just needs its Warp Module installed, and it will be ready to search for new life. Until then, a signal is sent out, just a single beep clearly emanating from the source of the noise.

One of the small ships begins charging up it's rift drives, preparing to make multiple rift jumps towards Capella, as TPN Control station has received some strange energy signals from there. (5 turns)
