• We The People: Petition to regulate alcohol and tobacco in a manner similar to marijuana

Online petitions on facepunch never accomplish anything
Jokes gonna be on you when you get alcohol and tobacco banned.
doubt it, unless people forgot what happened last time that happened.
I quit weed about 2 months ago so I don't really give a shit what happens to it. I do believe though, that the government is a bunch of hypocrites when it comes to weed "We don't want you harming yourself so Marijuana is illegal, not alcohol or tobacco though, they never hurt anyone.".
The amount of people who don't understand the satirical point of this Petition is fucking ridiculous. For you idiots who don't get it, basically it's to see what hypocritical response will be given from the people who respond to these petitions. Essentially to show you that this petition site is useless and that, no, the government doesn't give a fuck about what you want changed. [editline]29th October 2011[/editline] In fact someone should make a petition on that website to petition that the site be shutdown since it's just a waste of government money if no changes are actually going to happen.

'lets see what the people think about our policies!' 'oh they think it's wrong??? lets just feed them the same bullshit we have for the past 30 years!'
Seems like satire is lost on many people here on FP. Along with sarcasm and irony, though those to a lesser extent.
Seems like satire is lost on many people here on FP. Along with sarcasm and irony, though those to a lesser extent.
Satire and sarcasm is fine. There are some things that are just so flat out retarded however, that it doesnt apply to them. This being one of those things.
I fail to see why alcohol isn't illegal while weed is. Both intoxicate the mind, except one of the two have scientifically been proven to do long-term harm to the body. Alcohol.
People just aren't smart with these substance's.
People just aren't smart with these substance's.
More like politicians are corrupt assholes or just just literally insane or both.
Why is FP getting stupider... I can't believe how many people think this petition is actually trying to ban alcohol and tobacco, nor can I believe how many people think the petition has a chance of passing.
I go through this thread and see people missing the point. It's essentially an ironic petition. The government responded saying marijuanna will stay illegal because of the harmful effects it has on the body, ignoring the fact that two legal substances do much worse. If this petition reaches 25,000 users, it will force the spokesman who responded to the last petition to face this hypocrisy. The intent isn't to ban more substances, it's to create a dialogue.
The constitution would like to have a word with you.
I still don't understand what motivates people to smoke anyway, but that's a whole different argument. I think it's all just so silly, which is one of the reasons I stay out of the whole thing.

Marijuanna because it feels fucking great, also personally because it helps my insomnia Cigarettes on the other hand, are kind of just objectively cool. It's a part of the culture. I don't smoke cigarettes, and I think they're pretty awful, but c'mon, they're sexy.

I might experiment once or twice to see what it's all about.
cool
Just sayin because some people said they'd vote if they lived in the US.

There are other things which can help me feel great as well, but it does not require doing any of that. I don't need to smoke or do drugs to make me happy. It's a personal preference, and people can do what they want.

Just like the other two, marijuanna is a convenient shortcut but to good feelings and not a location or data, but to each their own.
I figured we would have learned our lesson from prohibition...
We should take a good hard look at victimless crimes and decide whether they are really deserving of being illegal or not.
It's like facepunch doesn't understand the concept of an ironic petition
I figured we would have learned our lesson from prohibition...
Hey, hey bro. Read the thread.
I'm really curious as to how the response will be when it gets enough signs. I know they won't accept it, but I wonder how they'll try to shield their hypocrisy as much as possible with it. Also, it might be a bit more difficult to get signatures for this since a lot of people are only going to interpret what it directly implies. That's why I'll probably take the time to sign this one myself as well.

The petitions are either pointing out obvious problems that politicians wont risk their career to fix, or small localized issues that wont get passed.
The government makes so much money off of alcohol and tobacco, something in the billions of dollars a year. When the states had prohbition it only lasted a year. If they have something like this again, its not going to last long either.
TBH the only thing that keeps the government from regulating alcohol as it probably ought to be is the fact that its ingrained in our culture to quite an extent. That, and it's effects aren't as adverse as marijuana. For those reasons, I'd have to say no to the petition. Tobacco on the other hand, go ahead and ban the fuck out of it. I don't care how ingrained into culture it may be (or rather was ingrained into our culture), that stuff will turn you into a zombie.
