I like to hope that Beth has been learning from complaints about Fallout 3, and Fallout New Vegas.
There was an interview with Todd where he said he planted spies in Fallout communities on the internet like r/Fallout to get opinions on how Beth could make a better Fallout game.
Well they have implemented ideas from mods based on their popularity. Somewhat gives me hope, as long as they don't learn how to make companions based on that too... Then again, even the most waifu shit-tier companions are miles better than what was in Fo3.
On the other hand, the way they're showing the game off right now kinda says "railroading agan, choo-choo!" to me. Because you see, I really doubt I can straight up shoot that minuteman dude on the balcony. And that kinda saddens me after NV. Looks way too similar to Fallout 3 style forced introduction.
I really love that they changed power armor to be something more significant than a bullet sponge that you can carry like 3 suits of in your inventory. I am curious though if they'll keep the "lighter" T-45d/T-51b in too or if it's only T-60 models romping about.
I'm pretty sure the "lighter" models were just gamebryo limitations. This is how power armor's alway been portrayed in lore and and non-gamebryo Fallout games. They even show some of the classic armors in one of the trailers all beefed up like the t-60.
There are hints that the PC is a military veteran, so he may already know how to use it.
There is a folded flag on his bookshelf, and wife mentions going to a Veteran Ball
Plus I think the leaked script (which is confirmed real with this video) said he was in the military.
that means
~more enclave remnants~
atleast i hope so, they were great in NV
Something I noticed in the Combat Gameplay video.

The red bar next to the HP seems to be the RAD counter, because we can see that when Mr Howard get's hit by the Mirelurk queen it goes up

It seems like it's a health "capper", as you never see the health go above the red meter.

fallout 3, you try and see what the jazz really is about radiation so you max it out
1000 rads and then magical instant death out of no where
lllmmmaaaooo fucking a

Kinda would make a little sense.
America is a huge nation after all, and it's going to be hard to scavenge through all of it to find every single Enclave outpost.
Hell whose to say there aren't Enclave in Canada, or Alaska, maybe Hawaii? Just saying.
Doesn't look bad, but I'm not that impressed.
The whole point of power armor is to be...well...powered.
I think a character from Fallout 3 said that Power Armor is less like plate armor, and more like a vehicle suit, ala Iron Man's suit.
As such, combined with retro-futuristic 50s aesthetics, Power Armor is going to look bulky as hell, because you're basically a literal walking tank.
Pretty much. Fluffwise t51b is a powered version of the standard combat armour with bolted on armour.
I still don't like the voiced protagonist, and i probably never will.
Gunplay looks good but so far it seems to be mostly about action as opposed to RPG. I hope there will be plenty of RPG and roleplaying elements and the game won't be extremely linear or very scripted and won't restrict the player...

There has been 13k lines recorded, and I do believe you get the option to disable it.

I'm assuming they're just showing off the action primarily since that was always a worse part of Beth's Fallout games. RPG elements and story will probably be about the same apart from UI changes, and they don't want to reveal too much of the plot yet
There has been 13k lines recorded, and I do believe you get the option to disable it.
We haven't really seen this voiced dialogue in serious action. I would say give it a chance before you write it off.
And again, there should be an option to disable it.
The PC having a wife and child really bothers me, backstories in RPGs like these shouldnt be this set
The PC having a wife and child really bothers me, backstories in RPGs like these shouldnt be this set
It's probably pretty easy to dismiss whatever happens in the opening sequence once you're actually playing the game. It's not like anyone's going to talk to you about your pre-war life 200 years after the war, no one will have any idea you were married
The PC having a wife and child really bothers me, backstories in RPGs like these shouldnt be this set
Fallout 3 is the exact same way.

I'm sure there will be alternate beginnings soon after release for roleplaying purposes or just people who don't want the usually fairly tedious opening.

Besides, who the hell would beleive that you're a a dude from 200 years ago that got into a vault the day the bombs fell?
They'll think you're crazy or chemmed up to kingdom come.

I always thought that the best twist that could be done with that would be [sp]Meeting up with a young adult looking Adventurer, only to find out that HE'S YOUR SON NOW AN ADULT! And you can have him as a companion![/sp]
That would be the best.
The open-bolt assault rifle that is garage gun as fuck, and the laser musket.
Christ, this game is so much more post-apocalyptic in terms of weapons.
The laser musket reminds me of the wind up laser guns from that episode of Futurama.

I've already decided that I'm modding that sound effect in.

lmao 6 pages of arguing about a game that isn't out yet

grafix look fucking awesome

I'm sick of the Enclave. They kind of made sense in 3 because not only would they want to reoccupy the former capitol, but Eden offered them a place to stay as well to help facilitate taking over D.C. However, by that point it was getting a bit stale, and I feel like anything more is just going to feel contrived and dumb.
Whenever we debate what should or shouldn't be in a game, we must ask the question; what purpose does it serve? The Enclave in 3 are the main antagonists like in 2, so their purpose is to advance the plot and serve as an obstacle the player must overcome. In NV they have shed all former ties to the Enclave and have become integrated, but they can still help the PC at Hoover Dam, so they still have a purpose. But reintroducing them in 4 would be pretty purposeless. What more would they do besides providing more enemies to fight? There would be, like, one quest featuring them at best.
It would be like the super mutants in 3. They don't actually do anything and could just as easily been a new faction. We really need to stop dwelling on the past titles and start moving the games in a new direction. But sadly, the Fallout fanbase is entrenched in tradition, which is ironic considering the themes of all the games are letting go of the past and not making the same mistakes as your predecessors.
Who cares Enclave is cool
I think the Enclave are rad, but like... They're dead. They were dead, then they weren't dead, then we killed them.
Please let them be dead.
I think the Enclave are rad, but like... They're dead. They were dead, then they weren't dead, then we killed them.

Remnants only with no real story impact, ala New Vegas please.

So long as they aren't the bad guy then I don't see why can't they appear. Its literally stated they have an outpost somewhere in Chicago so chances of having outposts around the country is plausible.

I'd be perfectly fine with this- hell, I'd like it. I just don't want a big organized enclave again.
