Hey, I can't join the military because of my metabolic disorder, which apparently makes it too dangerous to have me do the intensive physical strains that are required in the military. Is there any other way that I can help? My parents have sent my medical record to just about every recruiter that I've ever talked to.
You can apply to be a DOD Contractor or apply for a GS position (Federally employed).
How do you think I feel. I get to deal with the kids just out of boot/mct who were just out of highschool and either have so much "bearing" that they end everything with Aye and a rank or They're complete shit bags who didn't take a damn thing from bootcamp. Every week a new group comes in, and every week I want to ram their skulls through a wall.
My favorites are...
GOOD MORNING PETTY OFFICER
GOOD AFTERNOON PETTY OFFICER
GOOD EVENING PETTY OFFICER
PETTY OFFICER, PERMISSION TO USE THE HEAD, PETTY OFFICER
PETTY OFFICER, I DON'T KNOW, PETTY OFFICER
AYE AYE PETTY OFFICER
also @Caboose
That's all fine and dandy but in the military it makes no difference at all what you were beforehand. Think about it as starting over, completely. When you're in boot don't throw your experience in anyones face, it'll bite you in the ass.

Oh fuck no, I'm not going to butt up against what the instructors are going to teach, I'm still a big fat sponge ready to soak up things good. My recruiter and Uncle already warned me about former Active-Duty students that used to bitch so much on how 'everything was different in their unit' and how 'they do it a different way' as compared to what ROTC instructors do. They can easily stunt my opportunities without hesitation. I'm going to be working with ROTC and with my home unit at the same time just so that I won't have to turn into a soldier/cadet for just a weekend out of the month.
I think the ROTC will be more thorough with the shit they teach as compared to a hungover range cadre trying to address a whole company on basic skills.
Besides, I originally signed up for an 8-year contract. I'm not going to cry over spilled milk when I have to get a new contract with ROTC

Your class actually has people that go through bootcamp and jump onto the ROTC boat? I'm the only one of few that did that in my class.

No, I head the indoctrination course for AMS-1 in pensacola for all the new enlisted kids going to their A schools in aviation. Marine Corps doesn't have an ROTC option after boot. You either go in as an officer, or you get home grown after hitting sergeant and having a degree.

You're so lucky to get to be an instructor. I've been trying to get a more permanent position on working with the Recruitment Detachments with the Nat'l Guard so I can teach the recruits on the basics of everything. I was volunteering for every drill while I was still stuck with my Recruiting Detachment before I was introduced to my unit. It's so gay that the cut-off for positions are E-4's and up.

That's why I love the corps man, I'm an E-3 doing the job of an E-5.

Fuckin' lucky ass. Dude, my Readiness NCO doesn't want me to go out to Korea because he said that 'I don't have the required experience.' There goes my chance of heading overseas. He said they get to play opfor for the Koreans.
DOD contractor. No, not like Blackwater. Like the guys who work the front gate, or any other civilian job on bases really.
What's a good job for someone without too much work experience, other than yard work, dock room work and basic computer work? And by basic computer work, I mean basic. I am spacey and nervous because of other mental disorders that I have, and I know anyone the military pretty much kicks your ass if you bring up anything like that. Which job would least likely have problems with ADD and PTSD?
Oh shit, I just posted about that stuff in a thread full of military guys. I'm prepared for jumped on about that.

Uhh, working grounds keeping, store staff, building upkeep, general (basic) maintenance, kitchens, stuff like that.
Heyo! I took the asvab back in highschool and I'm seriously considering joining the USMC. My results are good until November. I'm thinking about small arms technician/repairer as an MOS but I'm entirely open to ideas. My question is what do you folks think is a good job? I got my results right here for reference.

Do you mean to say you have ADD and PTSD? Because chances are if you're diagnosed with PTSD you're not going to be able to enlist. You MIGHT (that's a big might) be able to get a waiver for your ADD and PTSD if you're not taking mood stabilizers/anxiolytics/anti-depressants/amphetamines.

You'll have a lot of options with those scores. I couldn't tell you what options since I don't know what's being offered anymore. But choose something better than small arms repair.
Posted in LMAO pics but this applies here.
There's a shitload of freshman at my highschool who think they're the ultimate badass cause they're in ROTC.

More badass if you do basic training before ROTC.
That's what I'm doing.
[editline]6th June 2012[/editline]
Still not that badass though, it'd be better still to do OCS.
I had a kid who graduated highschool with me that would always try and tell me that Marines are pussies and that makes me one since I'm enlisted in the Marines and that he is the ultimate badass because he thinks since he is going AROTC he will automaticly become an Army Ranger.

Hey I know people in ROTC at UNH
I'm still procrastinating about going to the recruiter to see if I can join the military again. If I can, I'm thinking about going aviation and being the third person in my family to join my uncles unit

AFAIK you can't go to ranger school as an officer, unless you're an officer in a ranger unit, but what do I know, I'm just an E2

Not to burst your bubble but saying you're an E-2 doesn't help your position what so ever. Whether your right or wrong, saying you're an E-2 is going to bias me into thinking you're wrong.
Talking to an army recruiter tomorrow morning, with any luck I'll do well, test well, and be able to go be a helicopter pilot. Anything I should know besides not signing anything?

Recruiters like to bullshit you , ask for straight up no bullshit answers to your questions.

That was the point of me saying I'm an E-2, I figure that I'm probably wrong. I worded that poorly however.

Again, I'm probably wrong, but AFAIK you have to be a Warrant Officer to pilot anything.

Is that all a person who can't join the military do?
I saw civilians all over Fort Jackson, they work all over the place, but yeah, that's about as close as you can get to the military without being enlisted or commissioned.

I tried to do that a few years ago, the process is a pain in the ass. You have to build a WOFT (I think) packet, with 5 letters of recommendation from "pillars of the community", get a flight physical, a bunch of other stuff too, and then meet some sort of panel who will judge if you can do it or not.
I was in contact with a CW5 from the 160th to write one of my letters, but then I started some college classes and stopped the process. I really wish I tried to go through with it though.
You're odds may not be the best but defiantly try, good luck.
[editline]7th June 2012[/editline]
Also a lot of the civilians at Fort Jackson were dicks to me, they are probably tired of recruits though
AFAIK you can't go to ranger school as an officer, unless you're an officer in a ranger unit, but what do I know, I'm just an E2
My new CO back in Basic just got out of RASP and he's wearing his 'Ranger' rocker. The Rangers have very simple pre-reqs for getting in and they have no age limits so long as you pass their standard. Ranks don't necessarily matter since our Battalion Commander also got his 'Ranger' rocker from RASP.
Tomorrow I'm going to try to rack in some fresh recruits for the National Guard. Me and my NCO are reeling one in right now and I'm supposed to talk to him about some stuff of all things Army like.
I figure that's what the issue is, but still. Dicks and douches.
[editline]6th June 2012[/editline]
Sometimes cunts.
Many of the training sites such as Fort Benning and Fort Jackson contract civilians to do the bulk of their work. We have civilians working in DFACs and working in reception to get us everything from dental examinations to just giving us our combat boots. They're also contracting some civvies to get construction done on the new barracks they were setting up in Benning.
A lot of them tend to be dicks since they are so jaded by seeing so much military personnel pass by.
So, in conclusion, there are many civilian opportunities to assist the military, but please don't be a dick, dickhole, douche, douche bag, cunt, ass, jackass, asshole, or any other unkind person.
You'll turn into one soon when you have to deal with a bunch of incompetent trainees like me.

Thanks for the info, I'm gonna give it my best shot. I've got good vision, decent fitness and I test well, so I'm not too worried about the warrant officer stuff, and I've got decent social skills, so hopefully I can work with the pillars of the community thing.
My family knows a Blackhawk pilot, a Warrant officer 5, and a few members of my family were military, so hopefully they can help me out.
