Good luck! I've always considered being a pilot, but I want to be an officer too much to do so.
Is that all a person who can't join the military do?
There's a lot more than that, those are just some of the most basic.

That makes no sense, you have to be an officer to be a pilot.
So for anyone thats been to Fort Sill, Oklahoma for army basic training, whats it like? I leave for it next Tuesday and i have drill this weekend. Any helpful tips or anything like that is appreciated!

I've never heard of an officer that was a pilot in the army, only warrant officers. Although, do marines have warrant officers?

Army has officer pilots, they just allow Warrant Officers to fly certain aircraft. Same goes for the Navy. Marine Corps has Warrant Officers, but none of them can fly.

Are you going to be Artillery?
I wasn't but I still had to go there when I reenlisted, they sent all us prior service guys there. Then I went to OSUT at Fort Knox as soon as I finished... joy.
Uh I'm not sure what you want to know, there's dirt on the ground and you'll be walking on it a lot. Oh and it's going to be hot.
Take care of your feet, eat right, and keep hydrated.

It's going to be hot as heck, but be glad you're not going in the winter. I went in January and the weather was miserable. Try not to be a jackass, do well in PT, and stay off the cadre's radar and you should be fine.
Oh and whatever you do, don't eat any cake.
And I wouldn't really worry about brining anything, bring a change of clothes and basic toiletries for your stay at MEPs, but everything you'll need is going to be provided for you once you get to reception.
No, I'm going in as a 15 victor light utility helicopter mechanic, ill hopefully be working on the new Lakota helicopters in 2013 as I'm doing the split op for the guard. Thanks for all the tips!

Anyone here in the Army? If so, could you share with me how you felt about basic training? I'm not exactly considering joining, but you know, there's always been that thought in the back of my head.

I got back from AIT less than a month ago. I'll be honest with you, no matter what anyone says, you'll probably go in expecting Full Metal Jacket. I know dozens of people who said it wasn't that tough, but I still went in expecting it to be ridiculous. It was pretty easy, just do what you're told, respect your leadership, keep your head down, and don't cheat yourself in PT. Do all that, you will have no problems, and it'll be over before you know it.

I went there for my artillery MOS school, but I'm a marine. I fucking hated that place.
Anyway... if anyone is going to be shipping out to Parris Island anytime soon there's a chance that I'll be coaching you on the range. I leave Okinawa tomorrow and I'll be at Weapons and Field Training Battalion on the 26th.

You gonna go after PMI?
I'm actually thinking of joining the army.
I think ill try to qualify for being a tank crewman. Actually i'm curious about what i gotta do to qualify as a tank driver. Anyone that could light me up?
I'm in the British Royal Devonshire Yeomanry Territorials, qualified for Challenger2 Driver, Gunner and Operator. Qualified for Scimitar Driver, Gunner, and learning Commander currently.
The territorials are absolutely brilliant, you can go as much or as little as you want and get paid per day that you go. The best thing about it is getting to play with all the equipment.

In Britain you have to do Basic just like everyone else then you can learn the basics of every station. After that you slowly specialise in the station you want. Driver is real easy on the Abrams, it's just like driving a massive bike due to the handlebar steering and throttle! If you're European you probably use Leopard2 which just has a steering wheel like a car. If you're British Challenger2 uses rods but they are very very easy to use once you learn them. They give even more control than a wheel or handlebars because you have full control over each track.

Seeing as i'm italian i think i will be using an Ariete for that matters.
I got just another question if you don't mind. Do tank crewmen get paid more than infantry?
I'm just curious.

It's not that hard. Just don't crash or flip the tank and you'll be good. In tanker OSUT you learn how to load, shoot, and drive the tank as well as do basic maintenance on it.
Trying to get into the Airforce as a pilot any advice?
Air Force Academy or ROTC is the only way you will join the Air Force as a pilot.
A few more months before I start my Canadian Forces application for the reserves. I'm working out everyday, I hope I get in.

Air Force PT test is actually really difficult and doesn't include bikes. In basic for PT you run around a track for certain amount of time lined up with everyone else non-stop. Then you run by yourself where you need to run fast. Then they make you sprint. That's it for PT on run days which is half the time what you'll do. Other half is strength training that is not hard really.

13 minute mile and a half, 33 pushups in a minute, and 42 sit ups in one minute.
Perfect scores being 9 minutes, 67 pushups, and 58 sit ups.
Not exactly what I'd call difficult, a lot of middle school kids can do that.
Wow. That's pretty easy. And much shorter.

EDIT: Perfect score, I mean.
