I'm tutoring this new recruit and I'm trying to get him to pass the ASVAB. He got a 26... I'm also being his career counselor too.
RANT: I hate how almost everything you could do requires you to be a minimum of E-5.

I know that feel. It is going to be an uphill battle to drop my WOFT packet as a PFC, even though my GT score is incredible and I have civilian flight experience.
I spent four years in an AFJROTC unit. It was a great time, but there will always be some drama going on. It is worth it to get E-3 though.
So wait, If i do AFJROTC all through high school, I start off as a private first class instead of Normal Private? Schweet.

How the fuck is he even considered a recruit with a 26 asvab? We don't admit anyone even to the DEP without a 32.

I don't understand how people get such low scores. I got a 99 without even studying.

Technically the term we used is 'people that are interested.' The recruiters try their best not to have the recruits go into the DEP program primarily because the program it self is retarded. We just get them sworn and have them do the RSP. This dude is trying to become a Cav Scout tanker though after all.

You need to have dash, dare, and cunning to be a cavalryman. Does he meet these requirements?

He better know Fiddler's Green.
We made fun of cav scouts during training, I have no idea what it takes.
We made fun of cav scouts during training, I have no idea what it takes.
While I am not a cav scout, I am in a cav unit as a crew chief. Already earned my silver spurs and soon will earn my gold ones. Honestly, being in a cavalry unit is incredible. We can wear unauthorized headgear (stetson) and have some great history and traditions.
Well my parents didn't really approve as expected. Ill just finish college as Its probably the right thing to do since my parents have been taking care of me my whole life. Maybe after college.
Joining the Military with a Bachelors degree has HUGE benefits. You could be an Officer and make the big bucks and they get all the good food. I was in the Army for 6 Years 27 Brigade C Battery 1st/156th Field Artillery

Beret > cowboy hat.
Beret > cowboy hat.
Oh HELL no. First, it is a goddamn Stetson, not a "cowboy hat". Second, it looks a hundred times better than the beret. We don't even wear the beret anymore unless we are in class B's or A's, which is never of the time. We can wear the Stetson in squadron areas and official cavalry functions no matter what the uniform, other than PT's. What you said is blasphemy.
hi civilian here saying uh
one military one goal ok
[editline]15th June 2012[/editline]

Beret is better? Hah!
Fuck y'all , it's all about the Dixie cup.
More 'potentials.' This one dropped out of my highschool in his sophomore year.

Tell him no, unless he has a GED with 15 credit hours.
Well I think I've decided Army OCS would be a good path for me rather than going in as enlisted. Because I'm already going to be graduating University soon, I don't think ROTC is an option.
The only thing I'm worried about is I once had a spontaneous pneumothorax (collapsed lung), and I had a very little surgery to fix it so it would never happen again.
I also had open heart surgery to fix a heart murmur when I was 6.
Doctors say I'm in great physical condition and I'm at no risk of reoccurring problems. I hope a waver will pass though if I get a stack of doctors notes.
We have conscription in Finland.
There's Armored Brigade and ''Satakunta'' Air Command near by.
We can try to make a wish where we would want to go, but my best bet is that I end up to Mechanized Infantry, or as we call it ''Armored-Jäger Company''. It even seems like the best idea.
Well, that's up to be seen after a few years.
A little over a month until I go to Navy RTC in Great Lakes, IL.

How come they conscript over there? Just curious. Last time I checked, Finland isn't at war.
cadets in my country isn't worth shit in the armed forces.

What's your rate?
How come they conscript over there? Just curious. Last time I checked, Finland isn't at war.
It's not that you would need a war to have conscription. Conscription just becomes cheaper overall than an All-Volunteer military. It also means, that a big part of the population knows how to handle a firearm and have the basic skills needed in the war.
Norway, Switzerland and Austria have conscription too.
If you're interested in additional history and information:
We've had the conscription for a long time, which is when we were part of the Swedish Empire. In 1809, Finland became an autonomous Grand Duchy of the Russian Empire, but I don't think we had any form of conscription for a while during that time.
Independent Finland has had conscription since the independence in 1917 to this day and forward.
Every male get's called to service when they reach the age of 18, although of course there is the less common option for an alternative civilian service.
Got my deployment orders the other day. If you guys have any questions about Afghanistan (if you haven't already been there) I would be more than happy to answer them once I am all set up.
Anyone here know what the Army Airborne PT tests are? Like how many pushups and crunches you have to do.
I only want to know because ive been shooting for 60 crunches in a minute (Some bullshit a friend of mine who insists hes going SEALS in the near future), but id like to know specifics.
What's your rate?
Advanced Electronics Computer Field, most likely as Fire Control.
Decided in class today I want to be in the Marines. I've actually been thinking about it for a long time.
I don't want to be part of this normal everyday life anymore. I want to make something of myself and I want to prove a shitload of people wrong. I want to be part of the brotherhood that is the military and I want more respect from my peers.
Only thing is though...My parents won't really approve of it, but I really want to join. Im in great physical shape, I play basketball here a tthe colllege and im quite strong.
I would say most of the training is more Mental than Physical.
