Anyone here know what the Army Airborne PT tests are? Like how many pushups and crunches you have to do.
I only want to know because ive been shooting for 60 crunches in a minute (Some bullshit a friend of mine who insists hes going SEALS in the near future), but id like to know specifics.
Hate to break it to you, but the Army uses a standardized PT test called the APFT. Doing crunches will do no good, you need to do full sit ups. Depending on your age, the amount you need to pass changes. For 17-21 it is 42 push ups in 2 minutes, 53 sit ups in 2 minutes, and a 2 mile run in 15:54. These are the bare minimum standards, so it would do you well to aim much higher. Airborne school has no effect on how your APFT is conducted.
skeea lets go awol
2gether

Alright, thanks for the help!
We have conscription in Finland.
There's Armored Brigade and ''Satakunta'' Air Command near by.
We can try to make a wish where we would want to go, but my best bet is that I end up to Mechanized Infantry, or as we call it ''Armored-Jäger Company''. It even seems like the best idea.
Well, that's up to be seen after a few years.
I applied to go to Dragsvik in January but havent recieved anything back so I will probably go in July.
Info if people are interested:

So if I can manage to get these three recruits to pass their ASVAB they may throw in a recommendation for a reward and I could probably get a promotion.
Time to light some fires under some people's asses.

Kill them and get dolphins to go in their place.
But seriously, get them motivated, teach them things. I don't know much about the ASVAB, but if it's an aptitude test you can definitely learn how to do them. Get some practice tests, perhaps for select entry schools etc and get them to memorise the types of questions that are common.

Getting your SPC waiver?
Almost out of Tech School. Been here for 7 months as of today, and only 1 week left if I pass the final exercise. Man I can't wait to go operational!
If i join the marines/army and ask to be just grunt infantry what are the chances I'll get that.
I wanna join after I finish college and I don't wanna specialize in anything technical. I just wanna do it because it's something I wanna do.
Marines is currently downsizing, so you'll have to work your ass off and get a good PFT score if you want to stay in. The Marine recruiters have this thing where they get a certain amount of MOS slots allotted to them and they have to fill them all up. These requirements reset every October? (I think) so that's when you'll have the biggest chance of getting what you want

Well I play college basketball and I often lift/run so I figure I could be in it till my military contract
expires and they deny me reenlistment
Then boom one dream achieved
Getting your SPC waiver?
Maybe. I'll probably just get that state recruiter's ribbon or some certificate but it'll look a bit nice on my 214.

Armored Brigade is good if you want to have some combat training and drive around with tanks if you get lucky. Air command is just sitting on your ass all day. Atleast here in Finland.
My service time is ending this july and i am tank driver myself. If you want some good out of 362 days in the army try your best and aim high. Being a cheap ass driver like me isn't anything great. I serve a year and all i get is some louzy paper saying i can drive a tank and worthless rank of corporal.
So yeah try mechanized infantry or tank commanding.
Just wondering how you guys are going? This thread has kinda died, I'd like to know how the guys who have asked advice here are going.

Yes, they do reset each October. That's when the fiscal year begins for the Corps. That is the best time to try and get the MOS you want.
Has anybody here taken the ASTB?
So I'm hearing-impaired and wear hearing aids. Does that pretty much prevent me from doing anything?
So I'm hearing-impaired and wear hearing aids. Does that pretty much prevent me from doing anything?
If you can't function without hearing aids then you won't be able to enlist :/

Well that sucks :l
How many hours of flight time do you need if you want to be a Naval Aviator? Or atleast have them consider you?
How many hours of flight time do you need if you want to be a Naval Aviator? Or atleast have them consider you?
Aviators are pretty much all officers, so I think you'd have to go through OCS, if not the naval academy itself, which you're probably too late for.

But is it possible to transfer over to the Academy? I've heard of people doing it.
I'm sorry I forgot add this in, but I aspire to be a USMC pilot. And the reason I hope to avoid OCS is because i've spoken to many marine officers, and they all say OCS absolutely sucks.

Right now I'm going through the application process and also happen to know a few people that have made it. So essentially, you need no experience. However what you do need is a "complete package". By this I mean, you cannot be a hermit, instead be an outstanding student, volunteer work, etc. etc. With that said, getting a PPL(private pilot's license) can help you stand out. If you do decide to get a PPL get it to prove something to yourself, not to better your chances at getting a slot.

You also aspire to be a USMC pilot? What I can tell you is that they do GUARANTEE a spot in flight school. Why is this important? This means you can go to a local school and get spot. However, you need a better attitude. If a little OCS is scaring you, then an academy would down right destroy you. So I suggest you evaluate yourself...
Got my deployment orders the other day. If you guys have any questions about Afghanistan (if you haven't already been there) I would be more than happy to answer them once I am all set up.
I'm so sorry to hear.
Edit: If anyone wants to know how to catch mice while you sit in the tower, I can tell you. I cought like 20.

It's the military, not a damn boat ride.
As a skinny as a twig person thinking of joining the military, what would be a good way to prepare myself physically and mentally for the military, including going to the gym twice a week and what have you? What changes should I make to my diet and those sorts of things, and what exercises should I focus on while i'm at the gym?

Protein, do lots of running, and work the weights is what I can think off the top of my head. Also see if you can enter DEP and be a part of their events to get you ready and accustomed.

My grandfather was a drill sergeant during Vietnam (who later got shipped over right before the tet offensive) has told me many times it's all in the mind. He told me stories of the skinny kids who look like they are going to bounce out the first week, but they eventually beat some of the guys that loiled born and bred for the military.
Those things can help, but the strength to not give up is the majority of boot camp.
(this is coming from some guy who doesn't have any actual experience, so listen more to the actual soldiers)

Will do, also this is Canadian military so things might work different here, i'm not sure.
