Yeah just do the exercises you are most comfortable with and do a fair amount before resting. You won't notice an immediate difference (I was also twiggy) but it will get there with perseverance.
Easiest way to increase reps is to just do it more often.
But is it possible to transfer over to the Academy? I've heard of people doing it. I'm sorry I forgot add this in, but I aspire to be a USMC pilot. And the reason I hope to avoid OCS is because i've spoken to many marine officers, and they all say OCS absolutely sucks.
That's the fucking point. If OCS was easy, then there would be no point to it. It's to make you a better man and a good officer. And if you're thinking of transferring to the Academy, at this point you pretty much have to be recommended by your CO if you're an enlisted man, and on top of that you had to have great grades in school and a good record in the military, and even then it's extremely rare. [editline]13th July 2012[/editline] tl;dr suck it up and go to OCS.
that's just like saying SF selection is bad because it sucks. It sucks for everyone that's why the people who get through are rewarded awesomely.

IF you get a degree you can sign up to be an officer, you are not required to go to the naval academy. Keep in mind if you want to be a pilot you're going to sign a 7-8 year active contract since you'll be spending 3 years in training. I live on the base where the fresh new LT's straight from TBS come to learn the basics, and the drop out rate is high. A lot of people are medically disqualified (you have to be in absolute PERFECT health to fly) and the rest drop out in school.
Me and a Sergeant arrived at our unit last week. He was in the 2nd RB and went on 5 tours. He's assigned to my squad. He switched over to NG because he doesn't want to deploy any more and now he feels like he's in a whole new world. Pretty awesome dude.
i fort about joyning to militery but didnt

FT, if you're looking to fly, please for the love of god go take a discovery flight a local airport. The thing is a lot of people have this romanticized view about flying, however, once they get into an actual plane (Cessna itty bitty 172's included) they flip the fuck out. Also, look into NFO (Naval Flight Officer), these guys are the back seaters and have a minimum vision req. of 20/400. Slot competition is insanely competitive, but do you best and try to be an outstanding individual and you'll hopefully get your chance.
If i was conscripted to army would it be kind of considered joining? I was conscripted for a year and i was self-propelled artillery driver my rank was corporal. I mean can i even give any advice since i didn't actually "work" there. I am just one in the line... just one of thousands and thousands before and after me. Was i ever IN the army?
As a skinny as a twig person thinking of joining the military, what would be a good way to prepare myself physically and mentally for the military, including going to the gym twice a week and what have you? What changes should I make to my diet and those sorts of things, and what exercises should I focus on while i'm at the gym?
Hey man, what are you planning on Regular Force or Reserve Force? I'm starting my app for CF Reserves in a couple of months.
PT. Your going to deal with it the rest of your Canadian Forces career. You can't run from it. (pun intended). Don't pass off 19 push up's as easy to do because you did it back in grade 9 and not practice. I just saw a potential recruit, who said they could do 9 push ups (what she needed to do to pass) fail and possibly lose all chance of employment this summer because she couldn't do the last push up. She did 9 all right however 3 of those didn't count because she did them poorly (not to standard) and had to do more, she did two more and couldn't do the last one. Failed the PT test and went home. She did really well with her CFAT, interview, medical. One push up sent her home. If you need to do 19 push ups, do 29 or 30. If you need to run 2.4 kilometers in 12 minutes, do it in 11. The recruiting center have some pretty great people but they have a standard to follow and they do follow it. A few seconds will mean the difference on wether you become a recruit or not. If your doing a PT test bring GYM CLOTHES. Don't try to run in casual shoes with jeans or baggy work pants. Stop being an oddball and bring a pair of shorts, t-shirt and running shoes to your test. If you want to join the army you better get used to it. You can't run PT on course with jeans or work pants.
Taken from milnet

Set your mind into always assuming the worst.

Joining would imply you did it willingly, and it doesn't look like you did that.
Does anyone have any experience with Airfield Defense Guards? Apparently it's a nice job, you get to be in the Air Force and do nothing, but also do ground force stuff.
I'm so sorry to hear. Edit: If anyone wants to know how to catch mice while you sit in the tower, I can tell you. So I'm at Parris Island now. Not coaching yet because I still need to go through the Combat Marksmanship Instructor course. Till then I'm playing a casualty on event 6 of the crucible. I wear a fake leg wound and scream obscenities at recruits while I squirt fake blood in their faces.
August 4th I have my 30 day preship and I'm pretty pumped because next thing I know I'll be at Parris Island.
I joined the Marines back in March, Leaving in October, SO pumped!

In all seriousness, how hard is the transition to military life? I've always considered joining the Army Reserve, but I'm concerned that I'll be too mentally / physically weak to deal with it. Is it difficult?

If you want to improve yourself as a person, all you need is the perseverance to make it through and you will not be mentally or physically weak by the end of it.
