this suddenly sounds like a stupid question
rip
Just found out that a Lt.Gen. is coming in tomorrow, and I was chosen to give him a full TSA brief on Integrated Air Defense Systems. Holy fuck I'm nervous as hell. I'm loving last second notices.
Let's let the new guy brief it they said. It will be funny they said.
:suicide:
Finally briefed him. He's such a cool guy. Behind the stars lays a true human being that's willing to talk about anything. I had a one on one conversation with him about the MQ-9 and how it's applied to my brief, then we talked about the targeting program for a bit. I showed him a bit of what I was currently working on and he specifically said that I should be filling a MSgts slot with my overall work stance. He was impressed with our whole shop, and even offered to send a few foreign nationals to come evaluate us for possible on-the-ground combat effectiveness in the near future.
I am in such a happy mood right now
I should get a PFC Skeen challenge coin for laughs.
I have a couple cool ones. I have the Chief of Naval Operations coin (4-Star, he's the tippity top of the Navy) , a couple of CPO coins (chief petty officer), the BUMED Force Master Chief coin (the highest enlisted person for my rate) and I have a Skyrim an MW3 challenge coins.
Is taking jrotc/nrotc only really useful if you plan on becoming an officer? I think i remember someone saying that you can enlist as an e2 in the marines if you complete nrotc

Neither of them are that helpful for becoming an officer (IIRC). If you make a certain rank you can enlist as an E3 in army, airforce or navy. e2 for marine corps.
to make e3 thru jrotc you need a 3 or 4 year certificate of completion

Its honestly easier just to get 12 college credits, or become an Eagle Scout.
its pre. bad.
[editline]30th August 2012[/editline]
and i feel stupid for voluntarily putting myself into it for 2 years now.
Wait, what the fuck, I got 13 units before I left for basic.
If you have an associate's going in, do you get your bachelor's while in service, or do you get an associate's in another field? Can you do schooling in the military, earn a bachelor's, and when reenlistment comes around, re-up as commissioned?
I don't get these "coins".
Sometimes I forget I'm in the military.

You can get your bachelor's in the service, no problem. Tuition assistance is great and will help out a lot. You can't really re-up as an officer because you would need to put in for OCS and pass it before getting a commission. Remember, DA form 4187's can do anything.

Finally got to my FOB. The person that had this room before me left a pretty sweet setup. This is going to be a good deployment.
Two controlled detonations in one day. The explosions are absolutely massive, it shook the DFAC that I was eating in. EOD must have found stuff.
"HALT! UXO in the area!"
"NO! Fuck you I want to set it off!"
When I get into the air force, would it be possible to ask to be stationed in Germany-
Also would it be possible to learn the language from the Air force?
When I get into the air force, would it be possible to ask to be stationed in Germany
You don't really "ask" for an assignment. You would fill out a "dream sheet" in basic that gives them an idea of where you want to go, if your job permits. However the majority of the time they will throw you wherever they need you.
Also would it be possible to learn the language from the Air force?
Yes, there are many programs that they offer for anyone to learn a new language. You even get paid more if you learn it, and pass a test to qualify as a translator.

Thank you kind sir, that's really helpful.

Are you able to take pictures of this setup?
Are you able to take pictures of this setup?
Yes, I am. I just need a camera to do so. The things I can't take pictures of are things like the inside of TOC's, the layout of the FOB, flight line operations, and things of that nature.
What are the "stereotypes" about each different branch? and basically the differences of what to expect from the branches, aside from the obvious differences of course.

Marines : HURRRRRGH OOO-RAAAAAARGH. WE'RE THUH MUDDERFUCKING BEST. FIRST INTO FIGHT MUTHERFUCKERS.
Army: AIIIRBORRRNE. REENGGUURS. Hooah.
-Regular Army: PARTY MOTHERUFUCKKERS.
-National Guard: Gunny: I'm thinking of retiring. Lance: Already? Gunny: It's about time. Time to go to the Guard.
Air Force: 'Join the Airforce they said, everybody can be a pilot they said, you'll look like a badass they said.'
Navy: Pussies.
Navy: Pussies.
I'll remember that when im performing emergency medicine on a Marine who's begging for his life.
It's not the navy who are pussies, I always thought it was the Air Force.
I'll remember that when im performing emergency medicine on a Marine who's begging for his life.
make sure you don't vomit on him, i know the sight of blood makes you navy types queasy
[sp]you know i love you and i only joke[/sp]
Stereotypes eh? Well, here is my basic perception on what people seem to think.
Army: Dumb, and everyone is Infantry
Marines: Loud, obnoxious, and somehow better than another service. Also Infantry
Air Force: Everyone sits on chairs and fucks around all day. Everyone is a pilot, or security forces
Navy: Everyone is a homosexual, and lives on an aircraft carrier wearing white all day.
Coast guard: What's the coast guard?
I'll remember that when im performing emergency medicine on a Marine who's begging for his life.
I meant a stereotype, but you can still be a pussy and be a medic.

I think it's dumb that I only got E2 from being an eagle scout and my buddy got E3 from "refering" 2 friends to the army... I came in with more army skills than almost all of those that outranked me in Basic

I'm a 42A, don't even TALK to me about 4187
[editline]3rd September 2012[/editline]
That was our go-to answer when we didn't know what form was required for certain transactions

I thought Eagle Scouts got E-3 upon enlistment in the Air Force, Navy, or Army. One of my bros did. Unless he had some other education under his belt that I didn't know about.

It could, it only got me E-2 in the Marine Corps. The Marines will only give you E-2 contract wise, nothing higher. Still at boot camp while everyone else was making $1300 a month I was making $1650.
I could have been an E-3 coming out of boot If I decided to put myself though absolute shit and compete against everyone else in the company. It is a lot easier to just recruit 1 (sometimes 2) people after boot to get E-3. I waited for time in grade/service for it.
Interesting note, if you plan on joining the marines from another branch you need to be at least an E-7 to keep your rank. Otherwise you start out again as an E-2. We're the only branch that does that, and the only branch that requires you to go to our boot camp again. Though if you decide to go from the marines to another branch you do not have to go to their boot camp and chances are you'll get bumped up in pay grade depending on the job field you go into.
