My grandfather said that one should never say call the DI "you" because you'll get shit for it, is it still the same today as it was in Vietnam if you call the DI by the name of "You"?
[editline]14th September 2012[/editline]
Also does everyone get yelled at or just the ones who don't listen to the DI? And last thing, are Marine DI's allowed to physically touch you?
I don't know about Marine basic, but it is a very good idea to avoid calling a Drill Sergeant or Drill Instructor for that matter, "You". Leave saying "You" to them. Also favored are "Guy", and "Private". Also, you better have thick skin, everyone gets yelled at. Everyone. It doesn't even matter if you are doing the right thing or not, you will get yelled at nonetheless. It is to see if you are broken by something as simple as someone screaming in your face. That shit doesn't faze me, but some people are really broken up about it.
I ship out to Fort Benning as of July 2nd. Cavalry Scout followed by Airborne School.

Cavalry is the best thing. Be sure to memorize Fiddler's Green, it is important to the Cav. Also, enjoy the best unauthorized headgear in the Army: The Stetson.

It was fine, though I was pissed because I had to wipe it off of the windshields and the nose. It smelled pretty bad.

Lucky bastard. Any of our birds get hit by, well, a bird, and not only is the bird turned into a fine mist, the turbine goes boom.
Also, I misunderstood when I was informed of my aircraft the other day. It's not just that I'm going to Little Rock AFB for my C130 IQT....It's apparently gonna be my first duty station as well. Fuck.
It is really hard for a Kiowa to get brought down by a bird. They can't really get sucked into the engine due to the filters being there, and they don't really have a ton of forward airspeed. Also, have fun at your first duty station, the C-130s around here are all from The Rock.

What aircraft are you talking about? C-130s or jets?
What aircraft are you talking about? C-130s or jets?
Either can get pretty fucked up if they get sucked into the turbine. C-130's have a little more defense against it since the props are ahead of the intake, but if shit gets in the intake turbine the engines toast.

Little Rock isn't that bad. They just refinished the housing there. And everything is in like one area.
Nobody come to Kadena if you do any Flightline maintenance. You will hate your job and get out of the military when you can.
Also had the worst typhoon ever. Came on a weekend and ended before Monday.
6 days a week, 9-12 hours a day. I hate my job.

To bad there isn't shit for miles outside of a walmart and the liberty sucks while you're in training status.

Mom and Pop places are quite abundant. I'd much rather live there then here in SC where I have to worry about even going to a Wal-Mart without being shot.

Do the sound of bullets ever distract anyone because it's so loud? I don't mean in the video, but in general warfare.

"Wow guys seriously that's just annoying stop shooting bullets!"
I'd think that in a combat situation you'd zone the annoying part out and concentrate on staying alive/engaging the enemy.
Well i have been in the Army for about 9 months now. Started as E-1 and did decent in basic. Stationed in Ft. Campbell on Rear D since everyone is deployed. So far the Army is full of boring duties, I' m glad that I only signed up for 3 years...
I guess I can't give it a fair opinion yet because I haven't been in that long. If I were to do it all over again I would pick a different MOS other than Infantry. Better for getting jobs after you leave.

I meant more like is it loud enough to distract you or do you basically get used to it.
I am completely deaf in one of my ears. Will this prevent me from enlisting in whatever branch?
I am completely deaf in one of my ears. Will this prevent me from enlisting in whatever branch?
It would probably either completely disqualify you, or you'd have a very limited choice of jobs in the military. Sorry.

The first round may catch you offf guard but other than that not really

Hey guys, don't leave sensitive items unsecured. I learned that one the hard way today.
What happened?
After launching three aircraft, I went back to the crew shack. What I hadn't thought about was that I brought an SKL (Simple Key Loader, it has encryption keys for commo and IFF equipment) out to the flight line with me. I did not bring it back. Someone else did. So, I got the piss smoked out of me by my squad leader for thirty minutes of the worst exercises, and have to do a 1000 word essay on the importance of securing sensitive items. I am now sore as all shit and unhappy that I have an essay to write on my day off tomorrow.
What does it have to do with joining the military?
What does it have to do with joining the military?
It tells you what not to fucking do when you're in the military.
I remember when my training platoon left behind a fucking radio out in the middle of the woods in our field exercise and the Company First Sergeant found it and our Drill Sergeant got pissed off at us for the rest of the cycle because we almost compromised his career in some unseen way.
