What kind of razors are you allowed to buy? Can you buy special razors or is it just the disposable cartridge kind?
Well, I better not get into wet shaving then.
So i just completed my emergency parachute training. It may one day save my life, but god damn that harness is designed to inflict the most genital pain physically possible. Most of the guys had a bit of a waddle going on the way out(couple women too).
Also, stupid fraterinization regs, a couple of the butterbars were hot D:

So regardless of my MOS, I could take a parachuting class?

Are you aircrew?

I made the mistake of trying a new shaving soap while at ODS. Jacked up my face pretty bad.
I guess big-wigs don't like jokes. I was going through a few images of Africa, and someone asked me what I was looking for. Without turning around to see who asked I basically said the first thing that came to mind.."I'm trying to find where Lion King was filmed."
I guess building details won't be too bad.

You could go to Airborne School.

Cmon, that was funny. They don't need to be THAT uptight. I am pretty sure that my squadron commander would have found hat hilarious.

That's hilarious, does he know you were joking?
Didn't seem like it. He's probably one of those old Brigadiers that despises anything related to youth. "Kids these days! Get off my imagery, your taking all my annotations!"

Some officers have a really steely, cold outer appearance, most of them don't, but some see it as a part of "job responsibility" or something. He probably got it, just didn't find it funny enough for breakage of the cold-ish demeanour.

Even if I join the Air Force? That would be cool because I have always wanted to skydive!

Reminds me of my last drill. A few of us from the S1 were hangin out around the coffee maker between formation and CLS recert and a full bird Colonel come in and grabs some coffee. this happens about 3 times and the third time he finally isn't in a hurry anymore and starts BSing with us, and a few of the E6s crack a few jokes in his direction, and he makes a comment about how they're so mean to him. He then turns to me, an E2, and says "You'd think I would stop coming here, but I don't. You know why?" I simply replied "the coffee sir?" and he burst out laughing and left us to our BS
So I'm thinking about joining the Marines in 2-3 weeks. To my understanding I have to do 4 years on 4 years reserve. Is it possible to do 2 on 2 off? Also, I'd like to be basic infantry. I don't want to be a mechanic or drive anything. How can I increase my chances of just being an infantry marine?

No, sorry. Airborne is for Army. Also, it isn't really learning how to skydive. You are on a static line. You learn how to fall out of perfectly good aircraft.
[editline]6th October 2012[/editline]
And also run a lot.

Do you learn the emergency procedures?
Do you learn the emergency procedures?
I would assume so. I don't really know, I am Air Assault, not Airborne.

In the marines the chances of you becoming a mechanic, unless you try to ask for it our slim. As for driving everyone at some point will drive something and be licensed on it. The best thing is to talk to a marine recruiter. The same with the term of service but I don't think you can change it up as to the terms of service.

They go over the what to do if you parachute fail to open and all of that fun stuff. As for getting into the school it's really based on MOS and location. My friend at Ft.Benning got into a class because there were a few open slots and he's a tanker. They tend to send people who's MOS's would make the most sense, i.e. Infantry, scouts and so on. But if there is an open slot they will toss a few others in.
Because airborne tankers... why the hell not.
What will the army think of next "UAV operator, astronaut, ranger"?
well they are deploying tanker units as glorified infantry so

I feel for them. Them and Chem guys. Poor chemical corps, they never get to actually do their job.

If you live in the barracks in your own room are you allowed to have your own computer? I'm buying a computer that should last me a good 4 - 5 years but I don't want it to sit in my parents house for 3 - 4 years gathering dust before I finally get home to use it. I understand there really won't be much time to use it but at least it would get used.
[editline]6th October 2012[/editline]
Correction, not my OWN room but a room with other people in it.

You can, but only when you pass all of the initial entry training and get to your first duty station. You can have pretty much anything you want in your barracks room.
