Bam, get picked off. Get in a firefight? Get shot and killed. Driving along? Bam, IED. Checking out a building? Bam, RPG through the wall. All to pay for my school? I'd rather put in the amount of effort normal people put in to get an education. If I need a job to pay for school sure I'll do that, I don't want to be shipped off to a foreign nation that I have no business being in only to kill people who only want their invaders to fuck off, or get killed myself. Sounds like a great idea.

Takes a long time I would imagine to move tens of thousands of troops, hundreds of vehicles, aircraft, and anything else that isn't bolted down/useful. Maybe I'm underestimating how fast they can move all that equipment though.

No, asking a soldier/grunt/anybody lower than O-5 why they're is 'over there' is like asking why is water being wet.
Soldiers could give two lesser fucks about the politics that goes on while they're being deployed. They won't come back home until their rotation is up or until they're dead.

Heh, I have only fired my weapon at ranges over here. I fix helicopters, I leave the shooting to the pilots. I also have a perfect idea of why I am over here. I am deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to secure the withdrawal of troops and equipment, as well as providing tactical advantage to the ground force commander. Voila. You clearly do not know much about how we think or what we do. We aren't just a bunch of cowboys you know.

Sure, it might be stupid what is happening over there, but that's not the soldiers fault. No soldier would say "Yo, I wanna go to Iraq'n shoot sum Taliban bitches". I've never heard of a soldier who actually [b]wanted[/b] to go to a foreign country for war. It's not their decision, they can't decide wether they wanna go to Iraq or not, they are sent there to do their job or they are out of the army. The military does what the politicians want it to.

Nope, no sidearms. Those are for MP's and officers. In the military you are only ever issued weapons that you use, no choice. Whatever sidearm is the service's choice, you are going to get issued it, no buts.

I recommend getting stationed in mainland. With that being said Okinawa is pretty fun, also considering you're in the Navy and an Officer you'll have a good time. You're afforded much more privileges than marines stationed here, so don't let naysayers convince you about Okinawa sucking. Also, I'd like to COT to Italy or Spain lol, crossing my fingers at my PRD.
