What was the favor you did for the medevac guys?
and whats the exact translation for the latin at the bottom of the badge, because my translation comes off as "Flying to prevent death" (I took 2 years of latin, and im still terrible at this "language")
I used our gator to help them move a ton of stuff all the way across the flight line. Also, I have no idea what the translation is, you are most likely correct. Dustoff does exactly that, fly to prevent death.
Woop woop got certified secondary for CT, Navy, and TBM targets, and primary for IADS, WMD, C4I, and SOF targets. Fuck yeah I can smell a deployment coming up!
My word, the military really does love acronyms. I have a 3 page research paper/essay thingy due Tuesday, and that sucks. How many essays do you typically write in the military?
Medicine and EMS has you beat on the acronym category.

It really depends on your job. I've only written one essay in Tech School, but that was it.
I really didn't think about the acronyms that I posted. Sorry for the confusion.
CT - Counter Terrorism
TBM - Theater Ballistic Missiles
IADS - Integrated Air Defense Systems
WMD - Weapons of Mass Destruction
C4I - Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence
SOF - Special Operation Forces

I know it's bad that I actually understood that. :tinfoil:
I'm going down to MEPS at the end of this week, and I'll be taking the ASVAB. Joining the national guard, and I'm going to try to get a job as a 94E. I fucking suck with math, I just can't get the hang of it. I need a 110 in aptitude area EL according to about.com. I'm not entirely sure how scoring is, so I'm wondering if a 110 is going to be hard to achieve with my shitty math skills.

You only write an essay if it is given to you as corrective training usually. Now, some jobs require you to type a lot and give briefs (see: Intel) and I guess that can be called an essay. Mostly, you don't though.

Electrical has about zero things to do with math. You will be fine man. Also, no one cares about the other line scores, GT is the only one that they care about.
Finally, after a few months of waiting, 101st CAB, TF No Mercy had its patch ceremony today. I finally got my combat patch!

3rd BCT's Colonel and Command Sergeant Major also stopped by to shake my hand and congratulate me on being the Soldier of the Month, and gave me their coin.

Then, later on I did a big favor for one of the medevac guys and he gave me his patch for it.

All in all, a pretty good day.
Congrats Cockkasan!
Haha totally kidding, congrats and much love from a former Bastogne dude.
I really envy you right now..never got a turn to go over there.

Military Medicine.

Well if you count briefs as essays than I could have written a fucking novel in my first 3 months easily. Na, but all joking aside writing actual essays are very rare.
Military Medicine.
Yep. We get the best of both worlds with all those acronyms.
Congrats Cockkasan!

I'm not actually a Rakkasan, I am a part of Wings of Destiny, the 101 CAB. They were just there to observe the patch ceremony.

Sir I'm going to have to have you fill out a DD 2180 so we can print out your AHLTA notes once CHCS and AHLTA decide to work together. Or hey we need you to go on BUPERS and go to PRIMS. Print out your last PARFQ and your last 3 PRTS.
I have a M9 issued to me, only way I got it was becoming the gunner on the 81mm mortar. Most of the time us infantry just get the M4 though.
I see, Also they still issue the M9? I thought they had moved on, At least its a familiar weapon to me since my dad has the 92FS.

The M9 is, and has been, the standard issue sidearm for the military for a long time.

I thought they we're replacing them with 1911's, or is that just a few officers?
I thought they we're replacing them with 1911's, or is that just a few officers?
I think that's just the Marines.
I think that's just the Marines.
I thought that was just a rumor. Correct me if I'm wrong though.
I thought they we're replacing them with 1911's, or is that just a few officers?
The Marines are the only service that are switching to a modernized M1911. The rest of the services are sticking with the M9 for the foreseeable future.

You sure about that? :v: About.com says it needs General Science, Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge, and Electronics Information. The last asvab I took I got in the mid-sixties, and the practice asvab tests I've been taking have been in the low sixties. I'm just kinda nervous about the whole thing, I don't want to end up in a shitty cook position or digging ditches.

That's "Services" my friend. One must never go there.

The ASVAB is called aptitude test for a reason... With that said, I've found the best way to study and improve scores for these kinds of test is using flash cards. Take some time to study, like say a hour or so every day for a month, and for the love of god don't cram.

First, we are actual military, not about.com, and we actually know what recruiters look at and want. They seriously only care about GT score. Also, you don't randomly end up in an MOS, you get to pick it in the Army.
I still never found out my GT score. What I do need to do is find another reference for my Air Force application and set a date for a physical.

I'm so proud that I was able to understand everything you wrote in that sentence.
Might be able to move off base. Our dorms were getting our beds replaced, and when they went to get mine they found maggots pouring out of it. I got called out of work by the dorm managers and they said that if I have any other problems like this, that I would be able to file a complaint to "get the fuck out of here".
I've already filed the complaint, because I don't want those shits crawling around again. We already have rats in the walls, and mold filled ceiling tiles. Fuck me if they won't let me out of here!

Oh what a lovely page king.

Do they pay for you to live off base?

Well now I just feel like a dick. :suicide:
Do they pay for you to live off base?
Yes, you get a monthly check on top of your base pay. The amount is determined by where you live, what your rank is, and if you have dependents or not.
