• Thinking of Joining the Military? V2
Soo... I'm currently in the DEP to join the Air Force. I only have 10 jobs listed, the majority being intel jobs, so of course I'll be waiting a loooooong time(I've already been waiting 5 months). I told my recruiter that if one of the jobs I listed doesn't pop up by the end of 10 months I'd be willing to go to basic training in the Open General Science aptitude area, which I understand is some damn risky business. My thoughts are that if I go to boot camp as Open General, and none of the jobs I want become available, I'll just go with Security Forces, which I'm genuinely OK with doing. Lately, however, I've been getting pretty damn impatient of just waiting around, and I'm seriously considering telling my recruiter to send me in as Open General ASAP. So, my questions are: is there any hope an intel job will become available for me? And should I be considering going Open Aptitude at all? P.S: I got a 95 on the ASVAB and qualified for pretty much every enlisted job the Air Force has.
For the love of god unless you TRULY WANT Security Forces don't fucking do it. Get the job you want, get the job you'll enjoy. Too many people go Open ___ and then don't like their job and become the definition of a fuckass. They're worthless and make it harder on everyone. I know you're impatient, but what if you get Health Management or something stupid? Crosstraining can be easy or hard, but regardless just take the job you want. Stay busy, work out, maybe take a college class or 2.. and then go when they give you what you want. I've been in for 3 years and have seen too many people settle for something they didn't want and then didn't get what they expected.
I'm thinking of getting into one of these if I get into the Marines: (I forgot the number designations for these) 1.Infantry 2.Tank Crewman 3.Engineer Of course I could change my mind in the coming years but I'm sure about the Infantry.

Right now he says its aight. If you are smart enough at all don't put yourself in infantry.

Woah. Cool your jets. You don't want to hurt yourself. A boat ain't gonna dodge my flyin' bombs from 100 miles away.
Fuck, my college has a really stupid system and I ended up missing out on an entire semester. Looks like I'm gonna have to sacrifice my summer to get my 15 credits. I regret not finishing high school normally, I would've been able to join in 3 months from now
This is really late, but service gives you credits.
Airman shipping to basic on June 19th. Anybody here gonna come with me or am I gonna be the only nerd having trouble with PT
what's the navy physical test consist of i'm just curious because i could potentially become a navy officer
Situps, Pushups, 1.5 mile run. Easy day.
Physical test of whether or not you get into the USMC go
Usmc. Fat
Physical test of whether or not you get into the USMC go
IST(to get in) 1.5 miles in under 12 minutes, 40 crunches in under 2, 3 pull ups no time limit. PFT(when you're in) 3 miles in under 28 minuts, 40 crunches in 2, 3 pull ups no time limit. Those are the bare minimums. Sure you can get into boot camp with that, but once your a marine meeting the bare minimum does not give you a high enough score to be considered in standards. I did a 1st class with 3 miles in 21:30, 100 crunches, and 17 pull ups on my last pft.
People who are complaining about waiting 6 months+ for responses, thats nothing Minimum waiting list in the United Kingdom at the minute is 2 years as an enlisted (depending on role) where as an Officer is a few months
I'm guessing there's no way to enlist and calculate when I can be sent to a camp during the winter?
People who are complaining about waiting 6 months+ for responses, thats nothing Minimum waiting list in the United Kingdom at the minute is 2 years as an enlisted (depending on role) where as an Officer is a few months
I had to wait a year for the marines. So Roof, in short, no.
I'm guessing there's no way to enlist and calculate when I can be sent to a camp during the winter?
I think it's usually about 6 months from sign up to ship date

No wonder you had it all bolded and bracketed, had to make it cooler then it is. Just kidding though.. it is what it is. F-15s a good jet. I can't tell if that's an E model though.. I thought Oki had C models. I'm avionics for F-15s (and A-10s and U-2s but our shits switched so we're shreded on aircraft now). Your missile which I assume is the RIM-66 Standard (and based off the wiki) has a 40-90 nmi range. F-15e Strike Eagle loaded with the Sniper XR pod has a track range of 86nmi. Then you can take one of the many missiles to choose from, but I'll choose my favorite the AGM-154 JASSM missile. It has a range of 200 nautical miles. Combine those two, along with the F-15s ICMS systems and you ain't got shit on my bird. Good try though.
I think it's usually about 6 months from sign up to ship date
Doesn't it usually depend on your MOS and how much they need people for that MOS? I remember reading somewhere that it takes 2-12 months to get shipped, may be just the Marines though

Is 11b the only MOS that can get an Airborne contract? Is it possible to get 68w Option 4?
Is 11b the only MOS that can get an Airborne contract? Is it possible to get 68w Option 4?
I know of food service specialists getting airborne contracts. It is pretty random at the MEPS station what has an airborne contract. Hell, I could have joined as a wheeled vehicle mechanic with a ranger contact.
I hope to hell I get an airborne contract, my biggest dream ever. If there was a way to guarantee it, I would do it.
I'm thinking about joining the military and it's probably a very likely possibility. There's just a few issues that concern me. For one, I'm color blind. Yes, I am medically color blind but it hasn't caused any problems in life for me. It's just those fuckin' dots! I know that being color blind severely limits the amount of MOS options that are available to you. Some things I was interested in was military police (my favored option), cavalry scout, and civil affairs. Civil affairs is pretty hard to get into and there's a lot of requirements. If I really had to I may go with public affairs - I like writing. I'm not looking for combat, but sitting in a desk all day doesn't appeal to me. I might settle for some infantry jobs. I'd also consider security forces for the Air Force. Knowing that my options are limited, can anyone explain to me how the waivers work? What are the chances of me actually getting a slot for MP or SF even though I'm color blind? I hear some people say it's possible, but not too likely. I hear others say flat-out no.
It depends on what colors you're colorblind to. As long as you can distinguish between red and green you should be ok for most MOSs
Hah, kinda ironic because red/green deficiency is the most common. Pretty sure I had some problems in the red/green area. I'll have to get checked again to be sure, I took the test when I was like seven and don't remember a thing. I mean I can definitely tell red and green apart from each other, but whether or not I can differentiate between a red and a dark brown might be a problem. Thanks man. I'll start talking to some recruiters sometime in the near future, they'll probably be able to provide more information.
Yeah, recruiters are the best sources of up-to-date information. Seeing as it's their job to get you to join, I'm sure they'll find ways around obstacles you may have because of your color-blindness

You always want to get a job that you might want a career in after the military especially in the Air Force. I don't know if you can get in security forces color blind or not, but to get the job is so easy you just tell you recruiter you want it and instantly you can get shipped. I'd go public affairs just because it sounds like you'll be doing more work than nothing. I would join Air force because of the easiness.
Oh god you're a weapons troop? I don't want my job actually. I want intel, but now I'm maintenance and I must drink my depression away with all the other maintenance guys. It's a C-model also. No E-models here.
Considering joining the RAF Military Police and being hated by everyone else, sounds good, even get to be a cunt to officers from the words I've been hearing, just have to get a full driving license and im set. I like the idea of patrolling a fence with a dog for 6 hours a day.
