So my uncle got back from Afghanistan and he was telling me how awesome the German Army DFACs are.
They bake their own bread. :v:
So out of curiosity, did your uncle have any influence on your decision to join the military? I'm the first person in my family to join so I didn't have anyone close to consult with that had firsthand experience.

Yep. Relatives are big-time battalion-level officers that are responsible for the horrible training events and supply shortages that my uncle concocts.

That's pretty cool. When my future children become older, I won't mind them joining the military. But if they don't, that's totally OK too.
So has anyone here personally met any well known higher-ups? I just thought about that because today, the President went to see some Wounded Warriors at Walter Reed and my wife was able to shake his hand.
She's also met General Powell and Admiral Greenert.
Not that famous, but my old CO was this guy named Cpt. Chontosh. He had a Navy Cross (one lower than the medal of honor) for storming a trench and killing a handful of insurgents. He ran out of ammo for his weapons, so he picked up the enemy's weapons and continued killing baddies. Then he got an RPG and took out more guys. I know it sounds like Call of Duty, but it happened.
The guy was pretty nuts. He was a PT God, he would chug a gallon of milk then run the mountain behind him just to test himself to see if he would puke. His attitude was extremely laid back though, he hated all the Garrison bullshit and constantly told other officers higher up to fuck off. Everytime a guy would get in trouble, he gave us an ultimatum: Run the whole company in the mountains without anyone falling out or the guy gets NJPed. Overall, I miss that guy. Great CO.

So, anyone of you been in enemy contact?
Where were you, what happened?

Damn what a story. I would hate to have been on the receiving end of any attack he led.

If you threw a rock in the general direction from where the rockets come from I bet you can get a[img_thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/cd/CombatActionBadge1stAwd.jpg[/img_thumb] for that.

Nah, now you actually have to be wounded or within a certain amount of meters. Not nearly as prolific as it used to be.
Ask your nco if you can tag along with some infantry dudes heading out of the wire. I'm sure they'll welcome extra security. Or an on the field mechanic
you can do that? intressant
you can do that? intressant
It depends really.
Sometimes you would get a comms guy to tag with a patrol, MPs and intel soldiers have to head out too.

Let me spice it up for you. Imagine Air Force Intel swinging along side the Army on a patrol. Give me a year and I'll let you know how that goes.
So i went to my recruiter station (second time ever being there) to pick up some paper-work for school (so i thought). Turned into 2 hours worth of paper-work, and being told that im going to MEPS this thursday.
I talked to them a week ago for the first time, i didn't think i would be going down to meps for at least a month or so.
Fingers crossed that my eye doesn't disqualify me.

I have already. Due to the absolutely crazy amount of flight hours we are putting the Kiowas through, they really need me as a a crew chief and not on patrol.
So any FP Marine Corps recruits looking at a July ship date to Basic? I'm set for July 29th (Parris, not San Diego)

Hope you like sand fleas and humidity. By the way, you east coast guys gets fucked on MCT.

Kiowas are two-pilot aircraft. In order for me to fly in the left seat (co-pilot gunner), the squadron commander has to approve it, which he doesn't do for Kiowas.
Shame, maybe you will get a chance on next deployment. But I guess that isn't so likely because everyone is getting pulled out of Afghan.

Well, we are attached to a different squadron this deployment. When we get back we are going back under our organic squadron, whose commander approves those kinds of flights all the time. There are also going to be incentive flights, and I drop my warrant packet when we get back, so I'll see how things play out.

Aha nice, I know here in Australia we will only be in Afghan until the end of this year. We are also pulling out of a lot of other countries as well that we have done humanitarian work in.
One of my good buddies is getting shipped out in may with a 68W Healthcare specialist. Anybody got any scuttlebutt on that mos?
One of my good buddies is getting shipped out in may with a 68W Healthcare specialist. Anybody got any scuttlebutt on that mos?
Yep. 68W Healthcare specialist AKA combat medic. They can also get additional qualification as an air medic, or what have you. 68W's are lifesavers on the battlefield.

Does that mean you're trying for warrant officer and possibly pilot thereafter?

They go hand in hand with the packet that I am dropping. I am submitting my "Flight Packet" when I get back to garrison. I am indeed trying to be a pilot.
Hey SKEEA just curious what is your current rank, no try to be rude or anything just curious?
Hey, so do you guys consider the Coast Guard the military and, if so, anyone have any information about it?
