Spike & Barley shaped my sense of humor way more than I thought they did 'till I realize i've been calling people "Mr. Man" for like 5 years now. Aren't they facepunchers? or one of them is anyway. I miss these videos.
I would like to second Spike and Barely, they are like an underground parallel to Gamegrumps and Two best friends that is just as good while having their own distinct personality. It is a gargantuan shame that they stopped uploading things, there was a certain moment where their chemistry started recovering really well and they even released a few videos that were as good as their classics after the conflict. From one perspective it is sweet to be familiar with such niche let's players but from another one it is a huge bummer that they were insufficiently encouraged to keep making their videos. If you do not know who they are, I highly triple recommend watching these series:
Since Mandalore was taken: Martial Gamer This guy does MGS' CQC in real life, cool stuff!

TIK Absolutely phenomenal documentaries and is super underrated. I'd highly recommend his Market Garden video because it's perfect.

Time Ghost This one is just getting started and it features some of the people behind The Great War series. They're doing WW2 week by week starting September so that's exciting.

The Sword's Path Like Martial Gamer but with swords

ThunderPsyker his DoW videos are like proto-Mandalore, but he's british

insurgentdude he makes the funni vids. Has a FP account too IIRC

The rest are ASMR channels so I'm not sure if you would all be interested in that.
Grand Illusions is a channel where an old british man named Tim shows off interesting/odd/wacky toys, novelty items, illusions, and other nicknacks.
Ashens himself is well known but I recently got into a Barshens kick, he gets together with a few friends at the UK Youtube Space and they film a bunch of challenges, quiz games and skits semi-regularly. Similarly well known is Jon Bois' quality content on SB nation, but he also has a little archive channel containing the earlier Chart Party and Pretty Good episodes, as well as some goofier stuff and the companion videos to his earlier works like The Tim Tebow Chronicles and Breaking Madden
I'd like to shoutout GigaBoots, they're a gaming channel and have a little over 6k subs but they have really good production quality, they also have entertaining and genuine, down to earth personalities which I find a lot of gaming channels lack in this day and age.. I found these guys through their series where they play through user submitted Megaman Maker levels. They've been making videos for years so there's a large backlog of videos to binge if you're into that, too.
Historia Civilis. Goes over the history of the Antiquity, mostly focusing on the Roman Republic with some parts of Alexander the Great and the Greek city states. He's currently finishing up the Late Republican period and moving towards Caesar's Civil War.
Night Mind All the creepypasta story analysis you could ever want! Still waiting on a new Petscop video though... Woodsie Great videos on the Steam Controller, guides and configurations- as well as VR stuff.
I'm pretty interested in theme parks and these two channels go in-depth about failed or abandoned theme park rides. Defunctland Yesterworld
Isaac Arthur does some great long form videos on futurism and space exploration. He does have a speech impediment but it doesn't get in the way of his ability to orate about topics and it honestly adds a unique feeling to each video. Very good for setting in the background while you work or play games.
Jaimie Mantzel. He built a toy spider-robot, he built big spider-robot, he built two super dangerous lumber mills, he built an awesome tower-house in the woods, he bought some islands somewhere in Panama where he lives now, built a boat, and is in the process of building a "fortress". If you're not interested in his other videos, at least check out this tour of his tower. One floor is a trampoline.
The YTbers aren't really that unknown, but it would be nice to see them get a bit more attention. ExoParadigmGamer Weird name aside, he is mostly known for doing in-depth reviews and comparisons of games and their remakes (called Remake or Rebreak?) He also has a personal LP channel and one with his friends/brother. Clemps Another video game review/analysis channel, only this one is more about JRPGs. Known for his really in-depth analysis for the Drakenguard and Nier series. He's a funny British man that loves JRPGs. Nyx Fears Hey something that isn't video games. :v: Nyx is a movie review/analysis channel that mostly talks about horror or just surreal movies in general. They're pretty chill compared to a lot of other movie channels that are usually more on the "jaded" side.
AVE Some Canadian engineer dude with a fantastic sense of humor (so many innuendos, holy shit) who looks at electronics/mechanical stuff and tells you if it is well made or if the manufacturer tried to cheap out. He also has a quite unique vocabulary, to the extent that it has its own Wiki page. It's also quite educative, he looks at stuff and he tries to figure out how stuff works with the viewer.
Shadiversity - guy who discusses castles and how accurately they're portrayed in films and video games the monotonist - vinesauce mod that gets into ARGs and Easter egg hunting
Shadiversity - guy who discusses castles and how accurately they're portrayed in films and video games
One of his video series I recommend is his series about weapons for fantasy races. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWklwxMTl4sxf_Yvz8ePW7tcpDnhGpKV_ The Orcs video is pretty good, he suggests that Warhammer/Warcraft-style orcs with arm-muscles the size of human torsos would let them use massively powerful bows, firing huge arrows that also outrange any other bows.
Game analysis videos with some really good production value
Strat-edgy: Very well put together analysis videos of videogames and sometimes social issues/phenomena(no identity politics thank goodness). A lot of his videos contain a lot of personal backstory which is both relevant to the video by offering context to the perspective, as well as feeling like getting to know the guy. From what I can tell he's in his 40's and feels a lot more mature and has lived through a lot more than a lot of other youtubers. GameHut: A channel by the founder of Traveler's Tales, the studio behind Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic R and the Lego Star Wars games. Contains a lot of behind the scenes on how game development was back in the 16-bit era.
Tehsnakerer is a great channel that does in depth reviews on video games. He doesn't post much, but that's because they're nicely long videos. Most of his vids are dry but if he does make a joke it's pretty quick so if it fails to make you laugh it doesn't stick round much.
Hey that's me, thanks a ton. A year ago I made a video on smaller channels that I recommended, wanna make a new one for this year, the focus is mainly on smaller Game review/analysis I enjoy, some have gotten a lot bigger and I got a lot of suggestions. (and a couple are bigger, but ones I really enjoy) So here are some that I learned about after the video, I apologise if this post takes up a lot, I seek out a lot of smaller Youtubers: LHudson A professional editor, mostly focused on story, his videos are really slick and he has a great eye for detail, he eviscerates Heavy Rain and is fair the whole way through (well, in my opinion, bit of bias against Heavy Rain) RunningShine The dude has disappeared, uploads once in an age and only has four videos, which is a damn shame because his thirty minute review of Tony Hawk's Underground is one of the funniest videos I've watched, start to finish, he has a sharp, fast style that's really fast and punchy, it packs in details with jokes decently well. Lambhoot Lambhoot does more technically oriented reviews, he's a software engineering student and each of his reviews are comprehensive but mostly focused around a central idea. This FNAF video is built around how FNAF is a poor finite state machine, he does opening skits on occasion which I'm not big on, but beyond those his videos are really fun and interesting watches. MechaGameZilla Mechagamezilla is odd to me, like, he's technically small but it still feels like everyone knows about him, either way, his videos are hilarious, they have a very dry (very British) sense of humour about them, I don't like using this comparison because his sense of humour is his own but if you miss Fitzthistlewitz his comedy is of a similar kind Shaymay This is the bloke who made the 7 hour Pokemon video, which I've listened to in small chunks here and there and he covers a good lot of ground, it's a long video but it's not plodding, anyway, his Sonic spitball series is really interesting, going into the series constantly shifting gameplay, tone, art styles, and as a result of this, the large, strange, and eclectic range of fanbases it has created. AboveUp AboveUp is one of the most knowledgeable blokes I've had the pleasure of talking to about video game companies (and anime, but that comes up less), most of his videos are covering roguelights, but he also does shorter thinkpieces and reviews on action/Japanese RPGs
If you like drifting, namely grassroots, More Skids is the channel to watch. I love these guys and they've got some pretty cool cars as well.
MechaGamezilla is one of my favourite Youtubers and has been for years, but his channel never blew up for some reason. His humour is really unique and he's super charming. I marathon his entire channel at least once a year and have a great time. He recently finally caved in and started a patreon, and seeing as he makes almost as much as Matthewmathosis on a tenth of his subs, I think it speaks a lot about him.
kaptainkristian does these entertainment essays on a wide variety of topics; adult swim, Superman, Frank Ocean, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, just to name a few. The presentation on the videos is also very well done. He's got a decent sub count but I never really see him mentioned anywhere, and he's got those same kind of comment that CaptainDisillusion does in every video (how do you not have more subs!?!?).
Medicurio- Educational videos about mechanism of diseases and medications.
Lofty Pursuits: The guy is amazing at making candy, he does it the old fashion way. I don't think any of his machinery is newer than victorian. He's got a really soothing voice you could just listen to for hours.
Immersive Simulant, They take scenes from video games like Deus Ex and mix in the ambient sounds you'd hear with that area in with the music Keep 'et Classy, Gabriel Morton (of Yahtzee Croshaw's Lets Drown Out fame) and a guy called Aaron do a lets play channel together. The Pepsiman video is a personal favourite of mine.
This Old Tony is a machinist on Youtube with a great sense of humor while still being extremely interesting and informative. It's very comfy to watch this guy work and talk shop. Everybody knows about Pannen "but first I need to tell you about parallel universes" Koek for his (in)famous Watch for Rolling Rocks 0.5 A Presses video, but I feel like a lot of people don't know about his secondary channel, UncommentatedPannen, which is where he posts the bulk of his videos. They're also very interesting, and they're closing in on the end of the A press challenge with them becoming increasingly confident that they cannot remove any further A presses. A finalized run is currently being made.
besides that pillow thread I don't see people talk about SsethTzeentach
This guy's great. His videos are just really longform video essays on usually bizarre and interesting topics.
Bisqwit
I wouldn't exactly call him "Lesser known", but he's definitely worth knowing: Bill Hammock, the engineer guy.
I'm going to second the UncommentatedPannen and Bad Obsession Motorsport recommendations, and follow with a few of my own: Retro Game Mechanics Explained A channel focused on the inner workings of old game code and hardware. He's in the middle of a big eleven-part "how SNES graphics hardware worked" series but there's no explicit focus. Contrary to the name, it's more about code and hardware than game design. NativLang (although I guess nearly 400K subs is not exactly lesser known, but I've never seen his stuff posted elsewhere) A channel focused on linguistics. Good production value, not the most advanced source on the topic but not a pop-sci type of channel. So it's beginner-friendly without feeling like it's dumbed down. He's got a huge video on the origin of writing systems that's pretty good.
