The paint is water soluble, it washes out quite easily, but it's easier for the marshals to pick out when you are hit if you are wearing camo/dark jumpsuit.

I REALLY REALLY want to go but the whole traveling from Birmingham thing is putting me off. It's either a 3 hour drive, or a 4 hour £80 train :(

I'm travelling from Sheffield by train and I'm looking at £37 for a return ticket and about 2-3 hours travel time. Really not as bad as you're making it out to be. That, and I'm actually further north than you so if your travel is longer than mine you must be doing something wrong.

When I went with about 15 friends, those of us who go to cadets got all serious and we split into 3 "fire teams". We asked the Marshall to put a stripe, 2 stripes or a cross on our helmets with tape to distinguish between each squad. Putting sashes with tape across your chest also works.

It doesn't cost £80 to go from Brum to London and it doesn't take 4 hours. It takes 1hr 10 on virgin trains or slightly longer by London Midland/Chiltern Railways.

As long as all goes well I'll be going from Derby for £18 return. 1 1/2 hour ride too.
If I bought a ticket on the day it'd cost me £85 or so to go from Barrow-in-Furness, connect with the mainline at Lancaster, and then travel down to Euston. Then back again. As it stands, I have gotten a ticket for £32.00
