I eventually quit, not because I couldn't beat an enemy, but because all of the mining and fishing and farming bullshit they were making me do was getting boring. That's exactly what I mean by "RPG elements". Also, "picked it up for ten minutes"? Seriously? That's not even long enough to get to your first monster. Have YOU even played the game? There's so much bullshit you have to do to get parts, you can't just get them from fighting monsters. And unlike Dark Souls or Demon's Souls, you need a VERY SPECIFIC combination of parts in order to upgrade your weapon, which often requires you to fish, mine, and run around collecting flowers instead of what you do in Dark Souls, which is just explore, find and kill crystal lizards, buy them from vendors, and if worst comes to worst, farm them from enemies.

Its not like some people enjoy that sort of thing, no way!

I feel this wasn't one of Criken's better videos, but it could be due to the fact he's still learning how the game plays, OR maybe he's just fucking about on purpose, all I know is I was getting a little frustrated watching him use the longsword and not use his spirit combo thing

Oh my god you guys. Yes, Monster Hunter has a lot of grinding in it and that puts off a lot of people. It's understandable, some people want to simply get out and fight rather than farm/fish/mine. Obviously this game isn't for them. For those that enjoy that, obviously this game is for you. That factor doesn't make the game good or bad in any respects. It just isn't everyone's cup of tea. Yes this game has flaws, the combat is hard to get into and hard to enjoy for a majority of people. Yes, this game needs a better lock-on system or anything that makes fighting monsters less clunky. It's a game it's going to have flaws. It's also going not going to appeal towards everyone's taste. I would argue that people saying "too animu for me" are missing out on a lot of good games if that seriously ruins it, but that too falls under personal taste.

anime and video games are pretty much the same thing

Monster Hunter's combat isn't clunky at all or that hard to get into imo Plus it has no lock on system, at least Freedom didn't
