The Jodorowsky version would've been ten times better
[editline]05:46PM[/editline]
In 1975, Jodorowsky planned to film the story as a ten-hour feature, in collaboration with Salvador Dali, Orson Welles, Gloria Swanson, David Carradine, Geraldine Chaplin, Alain Delon, Hervé Villechaize and Mick Jagger. The music would be composed by Pink Floyd. Jodorowsky set up a pre-production unit in Paris consisting of Chris Foss, a British artist who designed covers for science fiction periodicals, Jean Giraud (Moebius), a French illustrator who created and also wrote and drew for Metal Hurlant magazine, and H. R. Giger. Moebius began designing creatures and characters for the film, while Foss was brought in to design the film's space ships and hardware. Giger began designing the Harkonnen Castle based on Moebius' storyboards, and Dali was cast as the Emperor with a reported salary of $100,000 an hour. Jodorowsky's son Brontis Jodorowsky was to play Paul Atreides. Dan O'Bannon was to head the special effects department.
Dali and Jodorowsky began quarreling over money, and just as the storyboards, designs, and script were finished, the financial backing dried up. Frank Herbert travelled to Europe in 1976 to find that $2 million of the $9.5 million budget had already been spent in pre-production, and that Jodorowsky's script would result in a 14-hour movie ("It was the size of a phonebook", Herbert later recalled). Jodorowsky took creative liberties with the source material, but Herbert said that he and Jodorowsky had an amicable relationship.
Seriously they should've just given him a billion dollars or something and it would be the best movie ever made.
I'm not watching no 14 hour movie.

If it's Dune, I am.
:munch:
Same here!I know i would watch it :v:
Fuck, I'd watch the fuck out of that.
I mean FUCKING DALI AS EMPEROR.
Beside, they could have cut it into episodes.
I liked the miniseries, I heard a new movie was in the works or something currently
Well since my parents made me watch this film at a young age I can't help but love it.

They were right! I see what you become since that hehe :v:
My boss talked about the awfulness that was Dune for a while. He had the idea for a challenge you could play with your friends.
Gather together everyone who has not seen the movie before. Start playing it at a bar or something and the first person to crack and cause the movie's termination will be the one to pay everyone's tab.
I like the extended version. Its a three hour movie but worth it.

I liked how Hawat was fat and ugly and Gurney wasn't

Why would he be fat and ugly
He was never described as fat or ugly in the books to my knowledge and he is one of the best fighters out there so I don't see why he'd be out of shape

Although he was supposed to be scarred I believe
It seems there is a Harkonnen among you.

Gurney was described as a "fat, ugly lump of a man" a few times
Lynch said that he was very disappointed with the way Dune turned out. I don't blame him, he had to cut out so much just to fit it under 2 hours.
Why do movies always have to fit within a two hour span? I'm pretty sure Lord of the Rings didn't. Dune is just as well known as Lord of the Rings, I think. It deserves a proper adaptation.
Yes it does but it's hard to find someone willing to spend millions to make an adaptation of books, in that case it wouldn't be only one Dune movie but more then a trilogy maybe. In the other hand it would be great :buddy:
I didn't mind the movie. Some of the effects were disorienting, but the cuts and what not that Lynch had to do had a detrimental effect on how the movie was portrayed, much like Blade Runner. But even with that in mind it still had a ways to go. I think it was an interesting watch though.
The miniseries adaptation was ok too. Obviously with more time to play with they could explore the plot a lot more, even add their own subplot around the Princess Irulan/Corrino stuff. However the production values on that series was just god-awful. The follow up Children of Dune- combining Dune Messiah and Children of Dune, was much more watchable and the effects more respectable.
Still, I think Dune is well overdue for a proper adaptation, at least the first half of the trilogy to begin with. They would really have to make an impression with the first film though, to bring in more fans. Dune has recognition in its community and among sci-fi buffs, but I don't think there is much mainstream awareness of it.
I hope someone remakes this one day and actually makes it good.
The original one gives the feel of how things were not all that tecnology, great to see they had to improvise with certain materials not everything green/blue screens. If a new one comes i'm counting on it to be a great one!
A good Dune could be really good
In its year it wasnt that famous nowadays is considered a sci fi classic, a must see. Well I watched a bunch of times it's a great movie tho.
No I'm pretty sure the Dune movie is still considered terrible.
Oh, and who was the genius who thought it would be a good idea to replace the weirding way with cameras that you have to scream into to shoot.

He was only described as an "ugly lump of a man", not a "fat, ugly lump of a man"
