wow I remembered why I hate FP thanks this thread also at the guy above me, I'm an atheist but I understand what being social is.
Whether you are being socal or not shouldn't have an effect of casually agreeing with something wrong.
Why?
He never specifically said that he was smarter than everyone else, but I used my inductive reasoning skills to deduce that he keeps telling his father that he is wrong, and is continually implying that he is right. Even if that is the case, there is no reason to do that at all. I shouldn't even need to explain this to you, but you are probably another one of the dumb angsty teens making shit threads over and over about how LIFE IS JUST SO UNFAIR! In addition, facts do not need to have two interpretations, that is not the point at all. My point is that it doesn't matter whether he is right or his dad is right. What he should do is simply show some respect and agree with his dad. His dad may not be right at that time, but I guarantee that his dad is right 90% of the time otherwise, and if it weren't for his experience and knowledge, OP wouldn't be here posting this.
OP has a lucky dad who puts up with his shit constantly. I would get my ass kicked/banned from PC and XBox for a week for correcting my mom.
I also realize that I am, in a way, contradicting my own point simply by arguing, but it should be known that you should respect and agree with your parents. There is no reason to correct your parents and act like dicks to them all the time, because in the long run, it will not matter who was 'right' or who was 'wrong' in some dumb trivial argument. I always agreed with my mother, even when I thought she was wrong, but it is the advice that she used to give me, and the things she did, and the things she said that have gotten me through life so far
ITT: OP thinks he's smarter than his dad, fishing for internet approval.
If that's the case, then yes, he should at least listen to the reasoning behind his father's ideas. That doesn't mean he should agree with his father when he is wrong.
I shouldn't even need to explain this to you, but you are probably another one of the dumb angsty teens making shit threads over and over about how LIFE IS JUST SO UNFAIR!
Sure. Yes, his dad is the one responsible for him being there; yes, he should definitely treat him with respect, but that doesn't mean he should agree with his father when he is wrong. That's a very skewed interpretation of respect.
you'll suffer in torture land listening to Justin Bieber forever.
That's what happens? ... So how about that God? Pretty great guy, huh?
If that's the case, then yes, he should at least listen to the reasoning behind his father's ideas. That doesn't mean he should agree with his father when he is wrong. When your mom or dad dies, maybe you will know where I am coming from, or maybe you will continue to be a dense fuck who thinks he knows better than everyone else, and can't just agree for the sake of being nice. Have fun being logical and always right, up until you realize that being right isn't going to get you through life.
No you are a stereotype.
No John, YOU are the stereotypes! And John was the stereotypes. jk Anyway, respect your dad, even if you don't agree with his thoughts. Be glad you have a roof over your head, thanks to your dad. Be glad you have an internet connection, thanks to your dad. or something like that
Bible humping faggot. You should kill your dad
I'm a proud atheist, he's an orthodox Christian because of "family tradition". He failed to indoctrinate me as a kid, so I found out how stupid that shit is instead of believing it like lots of other suckers in this world. Any ideas on how to open my dad's mind and teach him that he doesn't need to use god to explain everything, that it's possible to be incorrect, and actually listen to what the scientists have to say, instead of retarded people from some one thousand years ago.
I left this thread after seeing your account statistics, about when the first reply came in. I now see this thread as a gimmick to promote atheism.

I correct my parents when they are wrong, they correct me when I am wrong. It isn't a one way street. I love my parents, and I'm sorry that you've (or at least you sound like you've) lost a parent, but being nice doesn't just mean agreeing with them.
God damnit that's the second Page topper Ive got in a row. [editline]12:00AM[/editline] automerge break doesnt help.
from the way its written it seems like he was joking.. but then again i wasnt there
I left this thread after seeing your account statistics, about when the first reply came in. I now see this thread as a gimmick to promote atheism.
i hope not. cause he aint good at promoting also i dont see why you sshould just agree with someone just because its your dad. if hes wrong and you think so dont just say your right and what if hes a bad dad that does deserve his respect?
i hope not. cause he aint good at promoting also i dont see why you sshould just agree with someone just because its your dad. if hes wrong and you think so dont just say your right and what if hes a bad dad that does deserve his respect?
Excuse me but when did I say he must agree because thats his dad? Not at all.
you should just kill your dad
This. Kill him before he spreads the stupid.
This. Kill him before he spreads the stupid.
Now you're being stupid. Kill Communist Cookie and Mrs Affinity before they spread the stupid opinion Nazism around.
you sound like a fucking douchebag
We were having a boring drive home, so I said, "Have you heard about the bacteria that has evolved to eat oil in the Gulf of Mexico?" Brusquely, he said "That's a lie." I asked him why, and he said it's a lie because it's a lie. I asked him "How do you know it's a lie? They have taken samples of the bacteria, and it's being researched." "Because it would be bad for corporations." "Don't you mean good for corporations, like BP, because then they wouldn't have to worry about oil spills, and neither would we?" "Plus they cannot eat oil." "Yeah, they can, it's toxic for us, but bacteria are decomposers, so they can eat decomposing organic substances." "Oil is not organic" "Yeah, it is. It's pretty much like coal, which is decaying matter from when our planet used to be covered in jungle-like habitats. Only oil is gooey, sticky, and a liquid. They do not know exactly where oil comes from, but I'm sure it's coal that has been even deeper into the Earth's mantle, where it has melted into a liquid and compressed extremely, and then when the liquid cools down, it becomes oil." "No it's not." "Yes, it is. Why won't you stop being glued to your beliefs and actually open your mind?" "I'm not being glued to my beliefs, you're wrong" "How do you know I'm wrong? I've done the research, you haven't done anything." "I don't need research." "Yeah, you do. If you applied to be a scientist and said that you don't need to do research, you'd be denied immediately." I'm a proud atheist, he's an orthodox Christian because of "family tradition". He failed to indoctrinate me as a kid, so I found out how stupid that shit is instead of believing it like lots of other suckers in this world. "Believe what we believe and you'll be in happy land forever, if you don't believe what we believe, you'll suffer in torture land listening to Justin Bieber forever." Any ideas on how to open my dad's mind and teach him that he doesn't need to use god to explain everything, that it's possible to be incorrect, and actually listen to what the scientists have to say, instead of retarded people from some one thousand years ago. It's pretty much the equiviliant of saying that the earth is flat, then when I show you the hundreds of pages of evidence, you deny it and state that it's a lie. Then, when I ask for your evidence, you say you don't need evidence because you know you're true. /facepalm
Stereotypical christian - annoying stereotypical atheist - annoying Just sayin'.
Excuse me but when did I say he must agree because thats his dad?
Now you're being stupid. Kill Communist Cookie and Mrs Affinity before they spread the stupid opinion Nazism around.
I was joking dipshit. You can't deny that OPs dad is being idiotic for not listening to reason.
I'm not even going to continue trying. Don't agree just because they're your parents, dead or not, especially when we're talking about fact.

Don't agree just because they're your parents, dead or not, especially when we're talking about fact.
I have to agree. Yes, his parents raised him. But that doesn't really count when you're arguing about a fact. OP was simply trying to tell his dad something interesting he found out, or perhaps teach him about it, and his dad starts instantly denying it. All of a sudden, OP is a dick for not simply giving in to his Dad's flawed beliefs. It's really not a matter of respect. I'm sure OP respects his Dad as he should. As said before, respect has nothing to do with arguing over a fact.

my mom thinks evolution is a lie what do
take a knife, and stab the bible in front of him, That will get his attention. Tell him exactly how researchers have discovered it all. say "sure just because you cant see something(god) doesn't mean it doesn't exist, But until you can prove that it DOES exist, its seen as untrue. bacteria that eat the oil HAVE BEEN PROVEN, Your god, has not." That should set him straight, And if he pulls any of that bible crap out his ass while you're saying that tell him to shut the hell up and listen.
Atleast your Dad doesn't call you intolerant. I said Muslims and the like are missing out on a wonderful food called bacon in a conversation we were having, and he yelled at me. He thinks that all Muslims are terrorists and yelled at me for saying I don't believe in God.
That's nothing. Yesterday I found out my mother has no idea who Stephen Hawking is. She doesn't even know "that wheelchair guy with the computer voice".
I didn't until I saw him on simpsons and googled him
I now see this thread as a gimmick to promote atheism.
why do you think this angsty dumbass is "promoting" atheism?
